Ok, Since halfway through season 1, Rainbow Dash has been capable of regularly, and without much effort, performing Sonic Rainbooms. Having done at least 3 so far. (4, if you count the one in the flashback) The last one, was performing a sonic rainboom at the wedding of A ROYAL COUPLE! Usually, i'd assume such airshows are reserved for the Wonderbolts, no? If Rainbow Dash isn't offered to join them in Season 3, i'll go crazy. Exactly what the hoof is she supposed to do to join them, anyway?
I guess the Wonderbolts aren't looking for new members. Maybe a season 3 episode could be where the Wonderbolts offer her a place and she has to decide if she should be loyal to her friends.
I think if they were to have Rainbow Dash join the Wonderbolts, she'd probably have minimal time with her friends. I don't see that happening (if at all) until toward the end of Season 3. Who knows.
Maybe there's an age limit? Dash always becomes a fangirly mess around them, so maybe she just needs to wait a few more years, I'm guessing.
in things like that, age isn't important. Like in snowboard where you have 17 year old Mark McMorris winning Xgames. I suppose the wonderbolts aren't looking for new member atm, but I suppose that after one other show, where rainbow dash would show them something that would want her in their group even more (something possible bigger than Sonic Rainboom), that they would invite her in the group, but she'll have to decline because she wouldn't be able to spend time with friends, because she'd have to move to Canterlot where's The Wonderbolts's headquarters. However, I see this happening after: Spitfire haves little group meeting with other members after Rainbow Dash declines, because she sees how much friends are important to her, so she offers her some kind of membership where she'd be able to stay in Ponyville and perform with them when they'll be around the area.
Just be careful what you wish for guys. If Rainbow Dash gets to be one of the Wonderbolts, she stops being one of the Mane 6. She would loose her major motivation to be awesome and it would become her job; 7 days a week 6am-10pm. I mean, they could toy with the idea: separate her from the group and play upon the loss angle. They could even do it up with the idea that Rainbow Dash finds out it's not all glamour and money, but a colossal amount of work for very little reward. Point is, this is a character facet and when you indulge the character with one of their cherished dreams, it tends to deplete their appeal. Imagine a Rainbow Dash minus her biggest dream?
