Twilight and Sunset Sparkle and Shimmer It has been said that Sunset Shimmer is a ex-student of Celestia's so we can assume they will fight over :Trollestia:s attention and probably end up in a serious conflict similar to Rainbow and Lightning Dash and Dust The show has down this before and it made for a wonderful episode, when Rainbow competed with Lightnign for a spot in the Wonderbolts. I really hope that they manage to pull it off on this one. Headcanon: Twilight realizes that being a princess isn't for her and gives the responsibility over to Sunset. She abuses this new found power and Twilight and friends must stop her
I prefer the theory that Sunset Shimmer is somehow involved in the 'Equestria Girls' story. It makes more sense than giving Twilight a second rival.
Or maybe Sunset Shimmer was upset about Twilight becoming Celestia's student, so now she wants revenge and becomes a Season 4 villain.

Has the same style as Equestria Girls, and definitely looks like rival material. As for the pony toy, maybe she will be canon in both of the shows. EDIT: Wait, as I'm reading the packaging to Sunset Shimmer's toy, it reads: "Knows a magical path to faraway adventures!" Maybe she is the one who sends the mane six to Earth.

i noticed that she seems to be an alter-ego of twilight sunset shimmer is very power-hungry while twilight is not at all both were students of celestia and their names are synonymous sunset=twilight shimmer=sparkle they really could have named her using a thesaurus.
