So I was watching flight to the finish the other week when I noticed something that has since been on my mind... everyone I've heard discussing disabilities in the show always focus on Scootaloo... But... Apart from a spark in one episode, we never see sweetie belle use her horn... EVER! I've never seen anyone comment on this and I was curious to see if anyone else had noticed... Even in ponyville confidential she doesn't even use her horn to lift the pencil to write... I'm not saying she is disabled but, all the focus has been on Scootaloo being a late developer... What about sweetie belle?
I think the show emphasizes Scootaloo's inability to use her wings more than Sweetie Belle's apparent lack of her magical powers, so that would be why people focus on it more. I hadn't really thought about Sweetie Belle that way. It could be a coincidence, but maybe not. I'd be interested if anyone else actually remembers seeing Sweetie's magic.
Well, we have seen her magic going out of control in this season's first episode, and while it is debatable how much of that magic was really her own and how much was caused by the seeds, I guess that she is generally capable of doing magic. Now, why she never does it, I don't know.
Maybe unicorns at her age aren't usually proficient in magic yet. When Twilight was around her age, she was applying for a school for gifted unicorns to study magic so it could just be Sweetie Belle hasn't really learned how to use her magic yet. Plus, I think in the Boast Busters episode, Spike mentions that Unicorns usually only have a little bit of magic that is tied to their special talents but since Twilight's special talent is magic she's able to use a lot of it. With that in mind, it would make sense that Sweetie Belle doesn't have her magic yet because she is still crusading for her special talent. On the other hand, Pumpkin Cake is able to use a load of magic at toddler age but maybe unicorn babies have some kind of abundance. I don't know.
When you consider that Scootaloo can't fly yet, and Sweetie Belle can't use magic, i've concluded that earth ponies are like the bug type pokémon of Equestria. They're better than the rest until level 20, after that they're just useless. :Trollestia:
Thats what stumped me... I would have just said "oh she must be too young..." But then again... Did rarity use magic to create her outfits before she got her cutie mark? I can't remember... Plus there's pumpkin cake
Although she can't use any spells yet Sweetie Belle's horn did spark a little bit in One Bad Apple when her Applebloom and Scootaloo where waiting at the train station for Babs Seed to arrive so my guess is that she's still learning.
I think the only time we saw Rarity use magic as a child was when it was dragging her to the rock full of gems, which would be related to her cutie mark.
I always just assumed that Sweetie Belle's lack of magical ability and Scootaloo's lack of flying ability was just due to them being young. It wasn't until the episode that focused on Scootaloo did people start saying she had a "disability" of sorts. But considering other examples, like the cake babies, maybe there is something wrong with them. Or, younger fillies that have those abilities (like the cake babies) may be the exception. Although, the most plausible explanation is that the cute mark crusaders are just all late bloomers. Considering that they all are the only ones in their classes to not have cutie marks yet, perhaps there is nothing wrong with them, it's just taking them longer than average to fully develop.
well, I remember in one episode (it might have been season 4 opener but I don't remember that well), that Rarity asked Sweetie Belle if she was using her magic for what was going on. If Rarity assumed that Sweetie Belle could have done something with magic, then she maybe can do something, but wasn't shown on screen yet (I suppose Rarity should know better than us since she's her sister)
I don't know, I never thought of that before. Maybe she is handicapped, which would mean she and Scootaloo may very easily relate to one another. But maybe the CMC are latebloomers, we know they are in the cutiemark department.
