Lately, I've been trying to come up with ways to make the site as a whole more interesting (and maybe cut back on the number of farewell threads).

One idea that I came up with is something I'm calling "The Everypony Awards"
Basically, it will be a series of polls in which site members vote for their favorite Everypony content.
    Categories would include-
    -Best RP
    -Best Blog
    -Best FanFic
    -Best Art
    -Best Video
    -Best Music
    -Favorite Member
    -Favorite Mod/Admin

Is this something that would interest anypony?

Not sure about the 'favorite member/mod' part.

Wouldn't want things to become a popularity contest.

I remember seeing something alike to the favourite member thingy-ma-bob when I first joined the site in an earlier CP or announcement, can't quite remember.

Anyway, I've actually been thinking something along the line of awards for feats, but I mentioned an idea about adding things like badges for achievements.
Unsure whether we're going to go through with it or not, personally I don't know much of the vBulletin on the inside, so whether we can even add them a certain way I'm unsure of. Probably can, we need to create them and such as well, and then adding any advanced badges rather than the expected "certain amount of hours on site/posts" badges, we're yet to think of how to start them. At the time it wasn't something other than a little side project, I don't know if it'll become anything more than that, though.

I saw a screencap from a couple of years ago that seemed to have some sort of member rating system in place.
I don't really know what it was, or why it was discontinued.
Maybe a "Favorite Member" poll is just asking for trouble.

Ah yes, this member rating system, I also heard about it, not quite sure why it was removed, but I believe it was due to a bunch of folk basically upping each other's posts as a group thing to reach the top. This doesn't mean I'm right, but this was a reason when I mentioned this why it shouldn't be brought in. Could be in the future, but who knows.

I personally don't like the favourite member/staff member polls, sure it's cool, but what's the guarantee someone won't get riled up about it? Best not to take chances in causing a big fall out or something if someone is to get riled up. Anyway, personally I think the forum needs a little bit of interesting to it right now, so I think the rest is a pretty good idea :p

This is one of the reasons why I posted this this thread.
I was a little bit concerned that the "Favorite" categories might cause problems.
Now I know to remove them.
    Thank you for the input.
If there any other questions/concerns/ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Member ratings are only useful with sites that actually deal with reasons to rate posts. Such as help sites. Small community sites have no need for them. It turns into "I have more points than you ha ha." <- why it was disabled here long ago.

The other poll ideas are nice though.

I agree with Mike, a member rating system has no real place here, which is why we decided to get rid of it a long time ago.

Maybe certain small award thingys for good Fanfics and whatnot wouldn't be such a bad idea.

A lot of car and bike forums I've been on have had a Ride of The Month poll, where people nominated 3 of the best member's rides and people voted on those three to choose their favorite. Then out of all the RoTM winners they voted on a Ride of The Year at the end of each year. Doing something similar with fanfics, RP's, etc., could likely work.

ah, I remember member rating system.
It was calling for trouble, and that's all it happened until it was removed.
Also, I'm on one forum where there is yearly contest like that, and it works for years, but I think it wouldn't work here, because I have feeling that it would turn into popularity contest, like it was with rating system back then.

Yo yo yo homedawgs, Saikyo here, I was the one who started the movement to remove the reputation system dawgs

Havin' a system in place to add it back is dumb yo

On FAF there is a 'This' option that functions similarly to a 'Like This Post' option. Rather than a rep system, I think a system like that can be implemented.

Also, shouldn't this be moved to Site Discussion?

Whatever happened to the usertitles idea? That was a good idea. Not only does it help make others feel better and it's not nearly as much of an ego booster like the rep system was, but it can also help others. I'm terrible with words, but I can see it as something like this:

Fanfic Writer Title: A member comes along and sees that member writes fanfics. The person may message the one with the usertitle and ask for his fanfics, or maybe talk about what he/she has read, etc.

Graphic Designer Title: A new member comes along and sees someone holding this title. Maybe said person would like to make a request or get tips on certain things involving art.

Of coarse there are other ones that aren't for specific skills but just look nice, such as 'Senior Member', something for having a certain number of posts or threads. I really don't see how it can harm the community in anyway. The only thing it does is give more incentive to be active. At least that's how I see it.

I fully support this idea. You can also add things like the roleplayer, radio/chat lurker and debater (for the serious discussion area)

You can give yourself those titles, to be blatantly honest.

Rather than titles, just start using the Awards system again.

    Case in point: Current title.

I think what he means by titles are the pips that appear in the sidebar underneath the avatar.

Titles leads me to believe he means titles. The pips are fine with me.

Awards can be displayed alongside posts in addition to the profile page. They just aren't configured as such. It would be nice to have more awards for community actions

I think it should just be a fun little project, it doesn't mean we have to reinstate the Rep and such, but if everyone was willing to be honest and not so hot headed about winning anything then this could really make someones day! I know we have the community praise thread, which is great! but I think a 'category contest' type event would be quite fun if done in a reasonable way~

I support this so long as there is a category for best forum villain, and that one guy that made 5+ accounts that all got banned is nominated.
Also if there's a best animal anything Ninjakitty will win. Rawr!
