I told myself I wasn't gonna talk about this much but then I realized a lot of people on EP came here from the mlp F and with some bad experiences. Now I only visit that site to both see how much worse it gets/ see if will ever get better again.
I also came from a bad MLP: FiM forum as well but it wasn't that specific one. It was a different one. Either way I've heard A LOT of horror stories about that place, so, needless to say, I stay away from it and will likely never join it.
I don't mind talking about my situation. I'm over it. It's just frowned apon because no one wants a 'forum vs forum' war or something. But here's a basic summary of what happened to me: They couldn't accept and respect the opinions that I had so they banned me. Yep. That pretty much sums it up.
My concerns were more based on the mind *squee!* I had when I realized the brony community wasn't all 'love and tolerate' and very excepting of others. It's not to start a forum war. It almost completely pushed me out of the community and quit watching the show and not all my experiences at the convention I went to were pleasant either. I just feel bad for other people and try to let them know that I care.
I've heard a lot of people say that they've had a bad experience there. By the looks of it, I don't plan on registering at that place anytime soon.
From what I have seen, many of those who preach "love and tolerance" simply mean they do not want to be held accountable for their actions (they believe that "love and tolerate" only applies to them). As far as I can tell, the phrase "love and tolerate" was originally used as a jab against trolls in the earlier days of the fandom; it wasn't supposed to be taken seriously. Unfortunately, at some point, it was appropriated by unpleasant types of people (sociopaths, attention *squee!*s, wannabe bullies, internet tough guys, etc.), and they turned it into a slogan whose meaning is to shield them from criticism. There is no shortage of rotten people in the fandom (or the internet in general). We must keep in mind that such behavior happens online, where there are no meaningful consequences for their actions (this is the negative side of the Online Disinhibition Effect). These miserable cretins simply want to drag everyone else down to their level of suffering, and most of them wouldn't last five minutes in a face-to-face altercation. It is best to let these people wallow in their misery and enjoy MLP without their company. As for MLP Forums, I was repulsed by their virulent homophobia. I stood up to a religious obscurantist, and the moderators (I think the term "censors" would be more appropriate) quickly started censoring my posts while allowing his to stay, including ones that involved personal attacks against me. Even the site owner himself ultimately sided with that homophobic bigot. Some higher ranking moderator or admin claiming to be LGBT (I can't remember the exact title) tried to "appear neutral" and talked to me about it, but this said moderator ended up blocking me when I exposed serious errors in his/her logic (I ended up backing this person into a corner, and he/she would have had no choice but to admit that he/she was openly siding with the homophobe). I wasn't the only person put off by such behavior over there, and the place seemed to have a "brain drain" of sorts when such people ended up leaving.
