Here to post small, bite-size fragments of your favorite songs and poems. Stuff that's meaningful, touching or entertaining to you. Go! From the small crumbs of earth From the fleece of summer eve From the memory of a single seed From the flair of a swan's feather I let the milk come seeping From the heaven, the heaven of my heart ~ "From the Heaven of my Heart", by Amorphis "The memory of a single seed..." So much feels, so much mental images....
oh gods I am going to spam the sh*t out of this thread. Starting with my favorite Wintersun song ever. This verse paired with the mournful mood of the song is one of the most beautiful and sad things ever. When I first heard this song I was practically bawling. I highly recommend hearing it in its entirety; this is just my favorite part. Have we arrived from our journey? I must ask you now At last I can cry, 'cause these sad words are calling me tonight; My eyes bleed for you my star, my pride and the love of my heart, But why did you have to fly so far? I raged and it tore me apart... I promise to you with sadness and hate Wherever I might go, you will know... I give my life to the withering leaves To the bleeding moonlight To the crying shadows I give my life to you -- Wintersun, Sadness and Hate And then there's this thing from Ne Obliviscaris. Their poetry is more obtuse, but their wording and the sharp contrast in this verse paint some serious imagery. This is the stuff nightmares are made of. Swan of pale Of porcelain white Her halo, a bloody sun Framing a botticelli face ...Of petrichor weaves black noise Where her frame disfigures, pale of the swan Painted, dying... wilting in red ribbons Lashing black sails, a tattered mane Her mouth, a death's head smile Tongueless choirs and baited breath Ever watching... the angels beheaded Bleeding this heart, come clarity, Resonance... Of petrichor weaves black noise -- Ne Obliviscaris, Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise <3
He stumbled into faith and thought, God, this is all there is? The pictures in his mind arose And began to breathe And all the gods and all the worlds Began colliding on a backdrop of blue ~ "Blue Lips" by Regina Spektor. And... You try to multiply your speed by time to get your distance But you don’t see the wood for the trees An experiment with existence Is showing up anomalies You see the day dissolve into the morrow And the slow growing of your second skin Adrenaline begins in the marrow And then intoxicates your oxygen ~"Wood" by Second Person.
Keldeo, you good taste person you. To continue on the nightmare surrealism, here's something by Storm Corrosion. (A collaberation between Mikael from Opeth and Steven Wilson) Someone is calling her shorewards Much like horses Raising dogs will sing to me Hold back the tears in my comfort We move forwards In these pauses, the storm corrodes Maps of a lift to the scaffold On a nursery floor Begs aloud not to stay Cut from the stone in the quarry This old friend of mine In his silence, the storm corrodes Passed on the second hand slips outwards Born in the curve the song drips endless Thrown out the boy believes the secret Grown up the dogs begin to reach it ~ "Storm Corrosion" by Storm Corrosion, on the album Storm Corrosion Stunning. The great thing about this kind of mindbuckery is that you can project your own personal meaning on it. To me, this is about being an outcast at a young age. The absent-minded kid that just can't manage to connect to his peers. And the confusion and frustration this brings along. It has become a very important song to me. ED: Got ninja'd by 2 people
Short but great! - Hot dive into frozen waves where the past comes back to life. Fight fear for the selfish pain, it was worth it every time. Hold still right before we crash 'cause we both know how this ends. A clock ticks 'til it breaks your glass and I drown in you again. 'Cause you are the piece of me I wish I didn't need. Chasing relentlessly, still fight and I don't know why. If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy? If our love's insanity, why are you my clarity?
Haaaah. I love that song Twinkledust. Mindscrew to the max. XD Now that I search my library I realize I don't actually have many songs like that. Even the ones I thought were word salad at first started to take on meaning when I read the lyrics closely, or it was just apparent that the songwriter didn't intend for the song to be taken seriously. Like this gem from Sabaton: Spoiler: Sabaton - "Metal Crüe" Take some venom and accept That you won't see Nazareth The rainbow leads you home Warrior sent to milky way UFO shooting gamma ray A riot of destruction Watch the rockb*tch down, vixen spread When the priest killed a maiden in the metal church Armored saints and warlocks watched the slaughter Rage of the slayer forced the pretty maids To kiss the Queen in crimson glory! You were born a motorhead Bike's in flames you race ahead U do the Kansas rush! Racing with the motley crew Annihilator chasing you With guns and burning roses! After listening to this song a couple times, I realized it's not actually about anything. The band just wanted to stuff as many of the names of their favorite bands into one song as they possibly could. See if you can spot them all! By contrast here's a piece from one of Sabaton's more serious songs. Most of Sabaton's music centers on some historical battle or war hero. Naturally I've learned more about history from listening to his band than I have from twelve years of history classes. American schooling is great by the way. Spoiler: Sabaton - Lejonet Från Norden (The Lion from the North) A time of religion and war, Legends tell the tale of a lion This beast in the shape of a man, With a dream to rule sea and land And all those who stand in his way, Will die, by God and victorious arms With the righteous that follows him south, Once more, set ashore, to war! Legends have taught, battles fought, This lion has no fear at heart Lion come forth, come from the north! Come from the north! Gustavus Adolphus! Libera et impera! Acerbus et ingens! Augusta per augusta!
He slept a summer by my side He filled my days with endless wonderHe took my childhood in his stride But he was gone when autumn came And still I dream he'll come to me That we'll live the years together But there are dreams that cannot be And there are storms we cannot weather I had a dream my life would be So different from this hell I'm living So different now from what it seemed Now life has killed the dream I dreamed ~ I’ll disappear. Take flight on the wind of wishing you were here. Fading light. Like a star Whose life has been gone for years. And I'll fly, fly across the sky. And I’ll leave, leave it all behind.
Someday, fire wipes the rain Fears are frozen tears whisper Things that no one hears Cry now, cry now for me again Tomorrow's pride and pain Why you kneel before my name ~ Divinity, by Amorphis
I'll just let you interpret these: Spoiler: Lyrics Started out as a high school reject, nothing much was expected from me, my mistakes, i recollect, i didn't care in retrospect! No indication, to my life direction, no group formation, but now we are! Sitting, hands on my controller, seems to be the only thing we control. Power on, worries off, they just seem to fly out the window. All indication, to my life direction. In group formation, and now we are! Broken but we're picking up the pieces! We're broken but were picking up the pieces! Scattered Gathered, yeah we all matter, doesn't matter who you are. Here we are we came this far, alright. Here we are tonight, Homies unite! Take A Stand Because a dream is just a dream until we turn it, Reality The sky is not the limit, reach for the stars Believe in what you do, and others will You are the next big thing
Did you ever have colcannon made with lovely pickled cream, and the greens mixed with the scallions like a picture in a dream? Did you ever make a hole on top to hold the melted flake of the creamy flavored butter that your mother used to make? ...Oh you did, so you did, so did he and so did I, and the more I think about it, sure, the nearer I'm to cry. Oh, weren't they the happy days, when troubles we knew not, and our mothers made colcannon in the little skillet pot?
Acrolith reflection that floats through my dreams Arid is the dust underneath me Something far away; a mirage, so it seems What I long toe see, oh, could it be My desert rose Born are the few Always with me Vision of you Desert Rose- Eric Johnson
Now I know you're safe here in my heart You will always be with me We'll never be apart Never knew how strong my love could be You're the one I've waited for Now you're home I believe Love survives beyond our lives I feel those ties growing stronger (Growing stronger) Love survives the tears we've cried Yes, love (Yes, love) Survives it all Love survives it all
You can hide beneath your covers and study your pain Make crosses from your lovers, throw roses in the rain... - Thunder Road; Bruce Springsteen I'm almost drowning in her sea She's nearly crawling on her knees It's almost everything I need - Sullivan Street; Counting Crows The smell of hospitals in winter And the feeling that it's all a lot of oysters, but no pearls - A Long December; Counting Crows So many more that I could post right now, but it's such a pain doing this on my phone.
Some babies being raised on razorblades, Some choke on golden spoons; Everybody needs their own way to Ease all the rashes inside a while And it's why the poor man's putting on a smile: Can't get enough of this sensation So pure in every way, giving this man his Everyday reincarnation Every time his heart is feeling blue Touched by the music he can move on through --Seventh Wonder, Move On Through I heart the message of this song.
"Left this life to set me free, took a piece of you inside of me All this hurt can finally fade, promise me you'll never feel afraid Not that I could, or that I would, let it burn, under my skin, let it burn!" Avenged Sevenfold- Fiction (Rev's last song) RIP JAMES THE REV SULLIVAN!
At last we will claim What is rightfully ours Absolute power, absolute knowledge All the galaxies and the subjects therein Will kneel before the human race Unlimited power Unlimited knowledge Mankind will be one with the Architect of the Universe At last within my grasp We are one step closer to cleansing We claim the Universe Causing galaxies to cower Unlimited power Unlimited knowledge for... Ever want to be free? Do you even remember? Want to be god and devil like me? Ever want to just stop? Do you want to surrender? Or fight for victory? Here we are at the start, I can feel the beating of our hearts Here we are at the start... Darkness falls, but here comes the rain to wash away those passed and the names Darkness falls, here comes the rain to end it all, the blood and the game Far, far away in a land that time can't change Long, long ago in a place of hearts and gold Far, far away in a land that time can't change Long, long ago in a place of hearts and gold
I remember Remember well But if I'd forgotten Could you tell? In the shadow of your first attack I was questioning and looking back You said, "Baby, we don't speak of that" Like a real aristocrat Vampire Weekend- Taxi Cab
"Let me take you to a place I know you want to go its a good life..., Love is shining life is thriving, in the good life good life, No more bad times only glad times in the good life good life. No more rainy days the sun will chase the clouds away in the good life good life. No nore sorrow nothing borrowed in the good life good life."
