Okay, so there is some debate going on about what order the ponies go in as far as age. Open discussion about your theories on ages. Well, for starters, we know as confirmed in an episode that Fluttershy is a year older than Pinkie Pie. The thing is, horses are typically grown up by the time they reach four years old, but can live to be up to thirty. So during those four years, there can be a lot of ponies that look and act differently physically and maturity wise, but are still very close in age. As we saw in The Cutie Mark Chronicles, Fluttershy was at her awkward growth spurt stage in life. Does this mean she's older than the other ponies? Maybe. Rainbow Dash said in Call of the Cutie that she was first in her class to get her Cutie Mark. As we saw in The Cutie Mark Chronicles, Hoops (or as I sometimes call him, Basketball Butt), already has his mark, meaning that he must be older than Rainbow Dash. He may be around the same age as Fluttershy, and thus be in her class. This also gives him more reason to make fun of her for not having her mark yet. Pinkie Pie acts very excitable and child-like, and she also works at Sugarcube Corner rather than owning her own business. This probably means that she is the youngest of the group. Rainbow Dash has a carefree and sometimes lazy attitude. She also seems independent, as she has her own cloud castle, and is sometimes overconfident in her abilities. However, she is also still insecure about some things, like making a good impression and being the best as what she's good at. This is demonstrated in Sonic Rainboom. So I consider her to be the second youngest. So Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, and Rarity are left. I think that Rarity is the oldest, but it still remains that Fluttershy could be as well. Rarity owns and runs her own business, and refers to herself as a mare on occasion through the series. (Though this could just be Rarity trying to act slightly older than she really is.) Fluttershy does not own a business because that obviously just isn't the type of pony she is. I'm going to guess that Twilight is the third oldest. She has significant magical ability, and has a vast knowledge of the world around her. Princess Celestia seems to rely on her to relay the news of anything significant going on in Ponyville. Also, while Twilight is still her student, she is no longer under intensive private study with the Princess, showing that she has grown both physically and magically. She can now practice and learn magic on her own, and under the tutelage of the Princess, has learned to control her power. Now comes Applejack. She seems to have a lot of farm responsibilities, but perhaps that is more out of necessity. We see no parental figure other than Granny Smith in The Cutie Mark Chronicles, which means that no light has been shed as to where her and Big Macintosh's parents are. Now, maybe you're thinking they could've dead. I considered this for a moment, and then realized that there was no Apple Bloom in the new episode. This leads me to believe that she was not born yet, but, this is neither confirmed nor denied, so there is room for my error. It seems that no one takes care of the farm except for Applejack and Big Macintosh. The only other members of the Apple family that we've seen (that I can recall) that live in Ponyville are Granny Smith and Apple Bloom. Granny Smith needs a new hip, which AJ mentioned in The Ticket Master?. So Applejack works hard because it's kind of her destiny to take care of the farm, and because her family needs the money. It seems to be the '(sort of) young member of the family takes on extra responsibility to help out the family' scenario. Anyway, Applejack is fourth oldest in my book. Discuss your theories about the order of ages.
I recall this coming up a little while ago somewhere else. I think Faust said that they have the responsibilities of adults but the personalities of 12-17 year olds. It was something along those lines but don't quote me.
the age range they live in is really different because if you pay attention the show says princess celestia and luna are thousands of years old, so the age range must be awfully different with the magic n stuff. i say that they r n their teens to 20s because of the age difference.
i was thought these were the ages of the ponies Twilight Sparkle: 17 AppleJack: 18 Rarity: 19 or 20 Pinkie Pie: 17 Fluttershy: 18 Rainbow Dash: 16 (Seems right to me)
Are not Celestia and Luna like goddesses though, possibly immortal. I wonder if they were born like that or that they were once normal ponies. Is it possible alicorns as a species do live forever? There might also be some difference in life span between earth ponies and pegasi and unicorns. I would say the main cast is fully grown, but still young, like older teenagers, I first thought they were younger than that based on size compared to Celestia, but that was before I saw Apple Bloom.
Yeah she did, doubt many ponies are that old though. There is definatly something special about these two. The thing is if they are divine or not. Either Celestia just a pony who is really good at magic or she is the Equestrian sun goddess, I tend to believe the later, the name comes from the word celestial after all. Both sisters are probably a lot older than a thousand years, it was a thousand years since Luna got banished, depending how long time the sisters ruled together after defeating Discord, and how old they were at that time, they can very much be ten times that age. Though did time really exist in the age of eternal chaos? Maybe I am reading a little deep into this. I just find these two intresting as both are a total mystery.
hmmm i like the idea about celestia and luna, makes you wonder how old the king and queen of equestria would be or perhaps the alicorn race, what happend to the rest of them? where they wiped out like the saiyans lol im going way over my mane on this
I usually asumed all as young women (or mares), were around early 20's or late teens. Being Pinky, on her late teens, fluttershy rounding her 20's , and perphars Rarity being the most mature character wise, I picture as the elder-est of the 6 (sorry Rarity) ages cannot be too different 'cause all got cutie marks at the same time, from other side, on ep. 23 Pinkie, the young Pinkie (Then Pinkamina) looked quite aged, or sad... I assume Ponies to have human lifespans, with body maturity around mid teens and mind maturity at mid 20's so with those year estimations I don't putting the mane 6 as a bunch of single middle aged mares
@Parker Izing: Pinkie Pie is about the same age as Fluttershy. I forgot what episode... I think it was "Griffon the Brush-Off", Fluttershy stated that she's 1 year older than Pinkie Pie. As for my take on their ages, I think all the Mane 6 are all roughly the same age. I think they're all around 19-25 years old or sumthin. As for my take on alicorns, I think that they're race is either very secretive and does not like to be openly exposed to the Equestrians or maybe that there's a more complex explanation as to why only Luna and Celestia are the known alicorns on the series. Oh, aside from Celestia, the oldest pony in the show I know of is Derpy. She appears in the episode "The Cutie Mark Chronicles" as a full grown pony and yet manages to stay the same in every other episode. LOL
@Bot-Chan: I haven't seen her yet but if she does, then we can assume that all background ponies are immortal. Well, we all know Celestia is like a thousand years old. I wonder how old Luna is. If they're both immortal, and if Luna was banished to the moon for a thousand years... we can assume Celestia to be nearing 2k years old and Luna prolly 1.5k. Rough estimate is rough.
