http://i989.photobucket.com/albums/af14/lvolf1/ScreenShot2012-10-08at125918PM.png?t=1349663344 ^Here it is. xP It looks much better when it's scanned. I just used my webcam for the photo. Any constructive criticism?
Hmm.. Yes. >.> The neck and head were drawn in the early hours of the morning. I told myself I'd regret inking over it so early on in the day, but I did it anyway. Now I regret it. xD Might have to do a few bust sketches sometime for practice. ^^; Thanks!
well the neck and face are covered. Clothing and hair look nice. Things seem to be in proportion to each other. The waist could possibly be a little thicker. It doesn't have to be, but it looks similar to Jay's style and people got on him a lot about it. for the record I'm on my phone. So I can't see it all the well. Just sayin'
Hehhe. I learnt to draw humans better with a fashion design book I got a while back and so I started drawing fashion croquis. The book is as thick as a mattress, I swear to god. xD And who is this Jay you speak of, Echo? I'm intrigued.
If I had to suggest something, I'd say before actually drawing anything you should lightly draw with your pencil a rough outline of everything you want to have on the picture but focus primarily on the structure of the person. This will help get your proportions correct and you'll avoid having the neck end up way too big as well as give the limb a more fluid and natural look.
The detail is fabulous. I am envious of the intricate patterns and elaborate design. I especially like the bold, black background behind her for some reason. I would go over the lines like crazy. Advice? Keep doing what you're doing, but all the while you can use references from anatomy peices. My friend uses a wooden puppet-like object on a stand so she can get lines, shapes and curves accurately. I myself still struggle with hands, Top-down perspective and backgrounds, so I keep handy references to help me improve. Locate the areas in which you think you should improve and find useful turtorials and images to inpsire you to do better the next time round, and you'll find that you're progressing very well! I was awful when I first started, and I still need to vastly improve my skills, but still you have a keen eye for detail, which is a great sign! I started from absolute scratch, had no talent for art whatsoever until I actually focused on improving. All in all, good work!
Yeah, I tend to draw in light pencil and then ink over it. After the ink is dry, I get rid of the construction lines. And I guess that's something else I should work on: Limbs. I tend to pay more attention to the torso then the arms and legs, so I'll keep that in mind next time. :3 ------- @Sinderlocke Hehhe. :3 Thanks for the compliment! It was looking a little 'wishy washy' with a white background so I decided to go around it with a marker. I've been thinking of getting one of those for a while now, but I was never sure how worthwhile it was. Since I'll be at an art shop looking for peacock feathers with in the next couple weeks, I might go and check them out. As Zeph said, I need to work on limbs and so maybe a figure like that would help me a bit. (I also suck at feet, so I think it'd be nice to refer to something. hahha) Like you, I started with little talent. xP I guess I have an eye for detail, but I've never been too good with /showing/ the detail. Like with quite a few other things in life, when I first started drawing I always made the suggestions of patterns/details, thinking that the viewer would 'know what I was talking about'. xD I'll be sure to check out those wooden puppet thingies within the coming weeks. ^^ Thanks for the reply and advice.
Jay was the creator and mod of Lil miss Rarity. Do to recent issue he has been banned from tumblr. If I can find a place to holds any of his safe work. I'll send it your way.
I do that, sometimes I end up making the details and body just as light as the base. So i end up loosing track of my details and ink in part of the base.....
@Echo What a ... lovely... title. Seems like this 'Jay' guy had some issues, huh? xD Thanks for the update. I'll google it after getting home from school. ^^ @Placid YES. I hate it when I do that, especially if it's going so well. xD I also hate it when you start a new line and on each end of the previous line, the ink has bled into a little dot. D:
This girl^ Finally someone who gets my inking plight! Oh and Link, cause I googled it and a lot of things came up but no blog called "whywehatejay" Please and thankya
@Placid YES!D: And I hate it when my mum mistakes ink pens for writing pens. I once asked for a packet of ink pens and she came back with a packet of writing pens. Writing pens have sticky ink that is impossible to draw with. ;^; Yeah, and I can't find the blog or whatever it was either. >o>
My advice would be to maybe thin down your color scheme, or use more complimentary colors. c: Drawings easily get cluttered and start to look too busy if you have too many colors. It seems you were going for a color scheme of blue, purple, pink, and red, which is a great color scheme but if you keep a consistent color for the accessories it would look much much nicer. For example, instead of blue, light blue, and periwinkle, use one shade of blue and use the others to shade it instead of using the different shades of blues on different parts of the clothing. Then use blue ONLY on parts of the dress and outfit that are similar, so the skirt part, then the part under the corset, then the sleeves. You can use purple as a pattern or detail color, and save red and pink for the tiny accessories (which it looks like you did for the most part) but keep the blue and pink/red AWAY from each other. I do understand the dress is probably suppose to look complex and have many different patterns and colors, but even on complex outfits consistency is key. Repeating patterns instead of using different ones make it easier on the eye. Sort of reminds me of an Alice in Wonderland outfit, so you could take a look at those for a better idea of what I mean. I love the style by the way, (and your conversation about some guy named Jay scared me half to death considering that's my real name. xD Now I'm worried.)
Hmm. That's actually a decent point, Muted. ^^ I'll see how I can toy around with it during the school break. Thanks for the advice and the compliment. :'D (That's pretty scary, actually. )
