failed thread EDIT: ugh...forget I said ANYTHING. I completely forgot I was in the "sources or it didn't happen" forum. I never thought I had to find sources just to state my OPINION (this kind of thing is never meant to be "fact"). I'm going back to the polls, less drama that way. Do with this thread as you please.
Masashi Kishimoto has stated that his greatest inspirations for "Naruto" come from "Dragon Ball" (for the character Naruto), "The Matrix" (for the Shippuden redesigns of the three main characters' outfits) and "Sasuke" (for the character development of Sasuke Uchiha). I have never heard of any reason why Naruto would be based on or inspired by TMNT. You're really going to have make a case for that here, although I am interested to hear your reasoning.
How dare you. How dare you! How dare you compare the crapfest known as Naruto to the Turtles! Also, I'm pretty sure that the only one of these shows that was directly influenced by TMNT was Street Sharks.
I agree with Dilly here. Why not explain your picks? It's the most interesting part of each list like this. Plus, it could be your chance to have fun and entertain too.
There's a lot to be desired, I think, on your explanation of the parallels between Naruto and TMNT, but the most obvious violation seems to be that they are, at best, parallels. That doesn't mean that Naruto was inspired or influenced by TMNT just for having those things in common (and I really think you're reaching far with some of those comparisons, however interesting it may be).
Well, I'm sorry for making you feel bad (not being flippant here, I promise) but when you just sort of dismiss my comments as I try to engage you on your own terms, and I have the opportunity to sit back and reflect that you don't seem to respond well to any of the constructive responses I've ever had, I think to myself that it might be better to just give in. So since I'm not allowed to comment my thoughts, I'll probably just say nothing unless I agree with you, if that is what you would prefer (that was what my other, shorter, most recent comment in this thread was meant to say). Again, I'm not being fecitious. But I've really run out of options as to how I am allowed to comment in your threads so I'm reduced to laughing when I agree and holding my silence otherwise.
I'm surprised at the lack of Extreme Dinosaurs, especially since the show had some crossover episodes with Street Sharks.
I am absolutely willing to shake hands on a clean compromise, but not before we really bait out the elephant in the room. I dunno if either of us has a problem socializing, but I can see where you're going with that. I've never "tried" to sound smart. I love words. All I do with my life these days is study words, read words and write words for fun. There are lots of words I don't know, but I want to know them so I am open to learning them and I sort of pick them up as I go. I didn't reach for those words in that post that you referenced; I typed that thing without looking anywhere else in only a minute (plus a few seconds to correct some typos, since I'm typing on mobile). I also am not fond of people who talk over other people to make themselves sound smart. But those were just the first words that occurred to me, and I thought them to be fitting. I often avoid using the simple language or the overly flowery language that I am familiar with because I am afraid people will assume that I am condescending to them either way. So I strike a balance and speak from my middle ground. This might be helpful (and here's where I'm getting to my real point): you seem to have run into an unusual amount of traction with your recent threads. That's a bummer. My best piece of advice to you would be to avoid telling the people in your threads what you meant a thread to be or not to be. Just let the discussion progress. If people want to take things in a certain direction, let them. If someone is being serious when you were being light-hearted or light-hearted where you were being serious, it's a mistake to correct them. You can always tell them how you feel (which, to your credit, you have done) but it's awfully stifling when someone wants to be the one to decide whether or not the responses on the whole thread ought to be one way or another way. The group will inevitably decide that as a whole as the discussion progresses, and there's really nothing you can do about it bar shutting down the whole discussion (which is a real option, if you're a moderator). In so many cases, you seem to have taken it on yourself to explain to people what each discussion is supposed to be, and the heat only ever degenerates into bad feelings. I want to hear more of your thoughts. I really do. But as the creator of this thread, you are automatically given a platform to speak to the rest of us. Your post is first and receives primary consideration, and that means that everyone who comes after you is almost necessarily going to ask themselves what they could do differently, or what varying interpretations they could bring to the table. When your inevitable (as it seems to have been in a number of cases now) response is to tell someone why their option or thought is illegitimate, it really starts to look like they aren't allowed to disagree with you, in spite of the fact that you claim otherwise. You can say that we're allowed to disagree with you, but now we're learning that to do so comes with the price of being told why we don't understand what you're trying to do. I'm really just tired. It's not my disposition to be frustrated all the time, so this has been an oddly consistent experience for me. Please forgive my ramblings here, but they seemed important as I wrote them.
How are the Cowboys of Moo Masa inspired or influenced by TMNT? The Turtles weren't the first Animal Crimefighers. Not to say the Coyboys of Moo Masa don't have a conection to the Turtles they made a Cameo in Fast Forward. On the Naruto thing I'v read the entirety of the series. I see Dragonball but I sure as hell don't see TMNT. Not only that but Dilly even sourced the creator commenting on his influence.
Unless the creator outright said it, I'm more inclined to believe their connection is more like the connection with Usagi Yo Jimbo.
