I can't believe we haven't talked about this yet. Now, before we start anything: This dress actually is black and blue. This poll is about what you see, not anything else. So, what do you think? Blue and black, white and gold, or something else completely different?
The other day in chat we were talking about this. I came to the conclusion that because it had 3 different news stations talking about it, (and bringing in experts, and polling people on the street,) that it was WAY out of proportion.
Let me give an explanation (or at least a theory that we came up with in programming) for the magical color changing dress, I'm pretty sure what happened was an impossible occurrence with the combination of camera used, lighting, and dress colors. When the photo was taken, it was translated into exactly half and half white/blue and black/gold pixels. Upon looking at it, only one color will show up based on your current eye sensitivity. If your rods and cones are currently most sensitive to warm colors, you will see gold and white, and vice versa. Some people are naturally more sensitive to one group of colors and it will rarely change for them, if ever. Someone in my physics class went on a rant because they've seen nothing but blue and black, though I myself have seen both colors on and off.
Interesting. In this picture, the dress looks mostly white and gold to me, if tinted slightly blue as if covered by a shadow. I don't really see any black here, though. I love optical illusions, so this is actually pretty neat.

For some reason, the dress, to me, is jumentous and fuscoferuginous with a tinge of melloncolly. These contact lenses I got from Steven Fry aren't working but my vocabulary is through the roof!
