Yes, the show is amazing, but I think there's something much more about it that made it a success. I'm going to write an article about MLP for a magazine (I'm hoping my editor authorizes it because I already wrote one), and I would appreciate your input. So, aside from the high quality elements of the show (character development, writing, animation) are there any other factors that you think helped make the show a success? And if so, what are they? Thanks in advance. - - Auto Merge - - This one is just to see why my pic doesn't show up. I hope it does now.
The character designs themselves is what first caught my eye. I kept watching more videos because of that. I wanted to see more and more of them, and I ended up enjoying the warm-heartedness of the stories that seemed to reach me in ways other shows and movies could not. I was just saying goodbye to all that childhood crap about love, sensitivity, and compassion and realizing that the only thing that matters in life is money and reputation. It was very refreshing. Oops, looks like I was just babbling. I'd say the number one thing that made it successful was the internet.
Thanks for your opinions but I think I might not have explained myself clearly. Yes, the plot and the characters designs are great, but I would like to know about other factors that are related to the show production. For example, the internet as a medium to spread it, or like Janemba said the lack of hearth-warmthness in other shows, etc.
The illusion, the Utopia that such a world could exist. The character's voice acting, as well as developpment. The show's mistakes and bloopers, wich some lead to awesome things. (We all know Derpy and the cyclope pony.) The simplicity and easy-listening traits of the show makes it nice to relax. The references. Oh god the references. The naive humor and cuteness. Theses are my points and arguments against every non-brony that asks me why i love this show.
Okay... I'll just explain it to you. Among Bronies, the word "Plot" has become synonymous with a Pony's hindquarters. Example:
Without the references that we older viewers love to look for, MLP is just another kids' show. For me, it took a while to appreciate the storytelling, character design, and all of that but what hooked me was the stuff that adults would get... that and the fact that I could relate to Sparky in Lesson Zero.
It doesn't treat kids like idiots. I swear the success of most kids shows lie in taking the whole "kid's show" thing seriously.
Ok, thanks everypony for all your replies. What aboot rebellion? Do you think liking MLP is an act of rebellion for some bronies out there?
The closest thing I can compare it to is this. Just replace 'metal' with MLP and 'the manson family' with the mane 6. You'll see where I'm going with this...
What do you mean rebellion? Like trying to purposefully defy the social system as their only basis, or at least a major contributing factor, to liking MLP? I'm sure some do, but I don't think it would be the normal. Ponies just don't have that kind of "anti-establishment" vibe to it.
