Ok. I've lately been reading some fan fics after this new server has been put up and I noticed that all Quotation marks an apostrophes have been changes to ’. What is up with that. I've noticed that on a few Fictions now. Is it something done by the servers or the Authors? here is a piece from one of Clayton's Fics. “Dear princess Celestia,” she read. “My friends and I have been looking for a good way to help people as part of Ponyville’s annual ‘Helping Hooves’ week. Also I dunno if this is just me being affected but sometimes the sever doesn't send me data. Anyone else have this problem? I'm not moaning or anything I just want to know if it is the new server that is doing all this...
It's a change of encoding, you see in web scripting we cannot actually use quotation marks, as they mean something different entirely in the server script, instead they are represented and implemented by the funky symbols you see. I had this when I pasted an unrecognized font style into my local page, nothing big.
It'd be a terrible thing to have to fix every single mark. I'm sure Grey will see this thread, but I'll point him to it when he's online.
change of encoding should fix things. Probably new server has different special character standard than old one.
Probably. The server change happened quite quickly. I am unfamiliar with the new host and know nothing of our hosting or web editing. I make no guarantees as to whether anything can be done. I can recommend a word swap feature on MS Word for anyone that wants to fix them right now (or in case they can't be fixed at all).
Sorry about this guys, the server change was a very abrupt decision and as such, little planning was done. Things were bound to go wrong. For now, I'd suggest leaving the fics as they are. I'm a little tied up tonight but I'll let twif, foxy and our new provider know so they can get to the root of the problem before we attempt a manual fix, as there may be an easier solution.
