My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is not the first T.V. series Lauren Faust has made. Most of the people in this fandom know her for her earlier works (Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Powerpuff Girls, Etc.). These were all great cartoons, and they were all made by Lauren, but none of them have quite the cult-like following that MLP:FiM has managed to create. Why is this? Lauren made them. They all have general references of just about everything. So what makes the ponies so different? What element are the other shows missing that MLP has managed to snag? I honestly have no idea. This is one of the things that bugs me the most about the show. What do y'all think?
Well, for me I think it has to do with several factors that, although small by themselves, is insignificant, but together add up to a lot. Kids Next Door, good show? Yes, but waaayyy to obviously geared towards children. Foster's Home, great show, but it got uninteresting after the first season or two (At least for me). Powerpuff Girls, can't say, don't remember too much of it, MLP FIM just has all the right elements, all the right parts, and also has the advantage of being made when the internet community is HUGE! Just think, the others were made back when, although people used it, it's not nearly the reachable fan base as what FIM has. TL;DR: MLP FIM has the advantage of being made at the right time, place, and has all the great factors, plus an awesome fan base.
thats the thing, no one knows or every tv show would do it lol. There is just an unknown formula that some tv show accidently find. People know this and try to recreate it, like the simpsons found it and now there are kinds of similar animated shows trying to recreate that formula over the years.
On that note, it's also the show's adapting to its growing brony community while keeping to its roots. All it takes is taking a random episode from season 1 and one from season 2 and you'll see it vastly changed. Or even the season closers, you have the Gala, versus the wedding turned into Changling invasion.
According to the things I like, ponies shouldn't be one of them. My brain says that I like ponies and I'm not gonna argue with it.
This is a very good question and who knows if someone has the answer. Snow could be right though. It just may have been the right generation at the right time.
Do I have to be "That" person? I hate being "That" person... *Sigh* Lauren didn't make Fosters,PPG. Her husband made them. Actually My Little Pony was her first actual cartoon. The second being SBFF. Now her and her husband are both making Wander over Yonder, the newest Disney cartoon. But seeing from her track records. It's gonna be good, especially with Craig AND Lauren making it... The answer to your question, the golden age, "I Am Weasel", "Johnny Bravo", "Cow and Chicken". All the animators who worked on them had an influence on the shows they worked on next which brought upon the next generation of "golden children" "Powerpuff Girls", "Dexter's Lab".Ect... What is the relation? All the animators who worked on the golden age had moved onto the 2nd golden age, influencing their work to be similar to them. Okay... Now Since Lauren was in PPG, she had a direct influence by the 1st and 2nd set of golden children. To which she herself became fluent in the tips, and way of doing things that their ancestors had created. Look at cartoons today. What line can you trace their workings back to the golden age? None? There ya go. Without knowing it, all who worked on any of the golden age's projects were "Infected" with the knowledge of their older more knowledgeable colleges. Tldr: Tricks, knowlege, influences, had been passed on from the source. Err I mean, The stars aligned and showered her in magic starlight.
