When I opened up to MLP, I was influenced by some friends on the internet, but watching it all by myself at the time. I think most open up to it in the same situation as me, but I'm curious to find out.
A lot of my friends (mostly online) are into MLP, so I started watching just to see what the fuss was all about. But it was my decision to start watching it, no one asked me to. =)
Pretty much by myself. I knew a girl who liked the show, but I thought nothing of it really. I found it on the internet (Minecraft forums) and decided to give it a go, becoming the brony I am today.
Well it is still early, but what I have suspected seems to be proven so far. 7 of 7 or 100% Found ponies mostly on their own. Friends and family may have some sway in people giving it a chance, but it is ultimatly the ponies themselves that win people over. I'm sure there will some exceptions in time though.
After seeing the 3rd or 4th thread on the League of Legends forums by Lead Designer "Morello", I decided to check it out. The pictures they posted were hilarious, so I started watching it every night.
I'm not really meaning stepping out of the stable on this. I mean when you started becoming interested in MLP. That isn't the same as when you came out of the stable or started considering yourself a Brony. Those things usually come later, though it could happen 5 seconds or 5 months later, it still comes later.
it was when my sister and my friend doubleteamed me after a long period of me trying to avoid watching it- so I guess I'm the first convert from non-digital means. Huzzah?
I knew there were some, I expect every option will be selected at least once. I was pretty sure though that most people tended to discover MLP on their own and found out just how large this thing is afterwards. This also shows just how much substance there is to this thing and it isn't a fad or people just getting into it because it is the cool thing to do. It really is the biggest thing in TV since Startrek. The biggest thing in cartoon history for sure.
Found it on my own when things went booming and 4chan exploded with pony. Ah... feels like yesterday. Welp, I just do what I want, and if people find out, so be it. Although, I don't go waving my bronyism on a flag, attention is the last thing I seek. Society sucks.
I'd seen it around the web for over a year before finally giving the pilot a proper chance last November. I'm still firmly I'm the stable with my friends, but my family knows. I showed my parents all the talent on the community, and they warmed to the idea pretty quickly.
I've been a brony since about early June. A friend of mine online had been bugging me for months to see it and I finally caved. Best decision I ever made!
Got bored at lunch one day and wanted to see what all the hoopla was about. Turns out I like ponies. YAY me SWAG
My favorite color is purple and it shows. One of my friends (IRL) sent me a link to Twlight Sparkle's wiki page, no message to go with it. Obviously, she's purple, and that's cool, but c'mon! My Little Pony? Please...this coming from a friend that likes death metal? I knew there was something wrong with this picture. My initial reply was: "I understand that it's purple, but what the heck are you doing looking up My Little Pony!?" Before I received his reply, I was wandering around watching videos on YouTube when I came across "Teens React to My Little Pony." So I watched it. At first, I thought it was a prank made up to freak the teens out, but one of them actually liked it! I thought to myself, "Are you serious!? Brony? LMAO!" The curiousity remained in my head for the next several days. Finally, I decided to look it up on YouTube and see what the fuss was about. I found the first episode, and needless to say, I actually enjoyed. I ended up watching all 40 episodes (that were out at the time) in less than 3 days. Afterwards, my friend finally replied admitting that he was a brony. Yeah, it makes much more sense now.
After a few recommendations from some friends at school, I gave it a go. If none of my friends were bronies I'd probably not be one. I had come across it a few times on the internet before but I probably wouldn't try it until later. If I did become one on my own, then I probably wouldn't mention it to my friends unless they brought it up.
I found an ad for some fan fiction comic or something on a webcomic site, but I never really opened up to it until bronies came to The Hive Worskhop. I hated it at first but I opened up to it when I accepted it's strange and purifying influence. It also changed my life .
I found it entirely on my own. While browsing the Internet, over time I'd encountered pony macros. The first one I encountered was of a blue unicorn whom I'd later learn was named The Great and Powerful Trixie. I didn't think much of it at the time, so it was merely a passing thought. However, I kept encountering other ones of the same style and was wondering, "What's with the pony macros? I don't understand." Eventually, I found out what it was back in May when I visited an old social network I used to frequent, just to see how things were going. I came a cross a thread entitled "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic" and there I saw the same ponies! In that thread I saw phrases like, "You're a brony now?" and "Welcome to the herd." I then looked up the word "brony" and then I became rather curious. I thought it was weird at first, "How can any guys, much less those around my age, enjoy a kid's show like this?" I laughed it off at first, but my curiosity got the better of me rather quickly and I decided to search for episodes on YouTube. I assumed that the Copyright Police wouldn't keep any full episodes on it, but I was rather pleased to find out I was dead wrong about that. The entire first season was there! I started naturally with the pilot and I was interested almost immediately. My first favorite character was Spike. I just enjoyed his sense of humor, I guess. The storyline also interested me, as well as the aesthetics. After part 1 of the pilot, I had to see the next one. That cliffhanger grabbed me. After watching both parts of the pilot, I wanted to see more. I noticed the YouTube comments were pretty much the same thing I was thinking, "Why am I watching this and why can't I get enough of it?!" I couldn't believe that I, a 25 year old male, was interested in a show like this, but I was. After I watched the third episode, I knew I was hooked because I just couldn't stop the urge to watch more. I watched the entire first season in a matter of 3 days. However, that's not when I came to terms with being a brony as I still felt strange about it. Despite this, after watching the first season, I wanted more pony. That's when I found Equestria Daily and I read some of the fan comics on there and read some of the discussions. Although a great source of pony-related information, I wanted a community I could interact with. Upon one faithful day in early June I googled the word "everypony" and the first result was this website. I was pleased to find a pony forum, and not only that, a pony radio with pony music made by the fans. After a week of lurking EPR, I decided to chat. Everyone seemed nice, so 2 weeks later (3 weeks in total of lurking the forums), on July 10th, is when I joined the website and I was welcomed with open hooves. I think that date, I can say with confidence, is the date I truly came to terms with becoming a brony and no longer felt weird at all about it. Despite that, I'm still in the stable though, but mostly for real-life social reasons. Sorry for writing all that. Heh. ^^; TL;DR: I found it on my own after seeing pony image macros show up in places I visited while browsing the Internet. I eventually found a thread on a site I used to visit about the show. Out of curiosity, I looked into it. I watched the first season on YouTube in 3 days. Found Everypony, and after lurking for 3 weeks, joined it. July 10, 2011 is the date I feel I fully came to terms with my bronydom. I'm still in the stable though for RL reasons.
