A post in A Public Menace thread brought up role models.
So, who is your role model, and why?

My Role model has been, for years, Albert Einstein. The man followed both his heart and his brain, instead of relying on one like so many people do today.
A stereotypical role model, yes, but one that I cherish.

During my teenage years I had a lot of respect, and interest in a man by the name of Nikola Tesla, and the magical things he was able to do with his studies involving electricity. He seemed to be the kind of person who did things on his own, rather than rely on other people to achieve his goals in life. When offered a stake in the Westinghouse company, he refused because he wanted his inventions to be of his own making, not shared in the history book with someone else. I want to be an individual like him, and somehow change the world like he did, with inventions created by a single mind.

I still dream of making such a machine someday, when money isn't such a bothersome thing as it is right now, so early in my life. I want to be an innovator like Tesla was.

    You beat me to it.

    Tom delouge

I loved blink 182, when they broke up and then AvA was made. AvA message they want to spread is hope and love. Look at my cutie mark, the colors are for love, hope and compassion.

    Ian mackaye

Minor threat lead singer. Was the start of the straight edge life style. Which I have followed for 20 years and will for the rest of my life. sXe

    BPL/iamsleepless/dylan

A youtube lets player. He has been a huge help in the last 3 years. He has helped me more by making videos then my friends IRL have done. His music is what caused me to try and give it a try.

It's kinda short on detail, at work and on phone. If I remember I will update when I go home.

Ralph H. Baer, inventor of the Video Game.

    George Carlin, hilarious and more.

    Lauren Faust, because, Lauren Faust.

Markus "Notch" Persson, for making one of the most commercially successful, artistic games of all time.

Myself. Because if I don't look up to myself, who will?

I have four listed on Facebook as "people that inspire me", and each have their own story behind them.

The first "person" that I have listed is Tyler Durden, the fictional character from Fight Club. (WARNING: Spoilers) Tyler Durden is the hallucinated alter ego of the unnamed, yuppie main character in Fight Club and presents himself as the ultimate badass. He is the embodiment of the yang energies of the split character, yin being the main character, and the story Fight Club being a very Westernized understanding of the philosophy of Taoism. Yang energies are more masculine and hard-line, whereas yin energies are more feminine and more emotional in nature. I consider myself to be lacking touch with my yang side, and so Tyler Durden provides the embodiment of the side within myself that I work to embrace each day.

I also admire Albert Einstein for the aforementioned reason of The Saikyo Brony, but also because of his quotes. He has some of the best quotes in the world on various subjects.

Benjamin Franklin is my favorite founding father. He wasn't the Leonidas of the budding nation like George Washington, but he was just as much the brains of the operation as Thomas Jefferson, in my opinion, and he could party hard.

Finally, I really admire Tomas Kalnoky, the lead singer and songwriter for Streetlight Manifesto. His lyrics really speak to me, and I believe that, if I could have lunch with the man, we would have a lot in common to talk about.

The only person I truly look up to is Stephen Fry. He's intelligent and witty, which are two great characteristics for me.

Awesome. My favorite songs are sirens, secret crowds and the gift. Not many people even know AvA. I'm glad I'm not the only fan here.

    You just became 20% cooler.

Testy, one day we'll need to sit down and watch QI for a night and just laugh. Stephen Fry is awesome and definitely someone I look up to.

As for others... call me strange but the people I look up to aren't famous celebrities or great scientists. I tend to find that I have different role models for different traits and are either cartoon/game characters or close friends of mine... odd I know but it's what drives me forward.

I won't go into detail as I'm not exactly known for being brief >.> but the first that come to mind is Mandy (from Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy), Derpy Hooves (our derpministrator, not the bg pony =P) and Brylian who's been an eternal source of respect and advice.

    Someone say AvA? :D
You see Love yet? Great movie.

Edit: I should stay on topic.
I'm kind of like foxy in this aspect, I dont have normal role models.
The people I really looked up to as a kid were my two cousins. Everyme they did something they seemed to be good at it while just staying laid back the entire time.
They changed though, and nowadays I don't really have a role model.

If only they were real. The world would be better.

I will never forget Mandy's cold stare, and she had no nose...

    Fred Rogers

It's impossible to encapsulate people in a few lines of description--so I won't try. Instead, I'm just going to collect a few of the quotes that, to me, summarize what these folks are about.

“When I say it's you I like, I'm talking about that part of you that knows that life is far more than anything you can ever see or hear or touch. That deep part of you that allows you to stand for those things without which humankind cannot survive. Love that conquers hate, peace that rises triumphant over war, and justice that proves more powerful than greed.”

“It's not the honors and the prizes and the fancy outsides of life which ultimately nourish our souls. It's the knowing that we can be trusted, that we never have to fear the truth, that the bedrock of our very being is good stuff.”

“We need to help people to discover the true meaning of love. Love is generally confused with dependence. Those of us who have grown in true love know that we can love only in proportion to our capacity for independence.”

    Ayn Rand

Not for her philosophy, mind you. The good stuff of objectivism is as old as Aristotle and Aquinas, and it was a lot more coherent in their systems. That said, no one makes Aristotle sound so inspiring as this woman.

"Love is the expression of one's values, the greatest reward you can earn for the moral qualities you have achieved in your character and person, the emotional price paid by one man for the joy he receives from the virtues of another."

"Reason is not automatic. Those who deny it cannot be conquered by it. Do not count on them. Leave them alone."

"The purpose of morality is to teach you, not to suffer and die, but to enjoy yourself and live."

"Supposing somebody were in love with you and said 'I love you because you're so bad, so I sacrifice myself and I am going to make you happy.' Would you accept that kind of love?"

    -

In essence, I admire individualism that seeks to actualize itself by a legitimate passion not merely for "humanity" as a general fact, but for the beauty of each individual. Ayn Rand expresses beautifully the self-actualizing individualism, while Fred Rogers proves that it is possible for the individual to flourish based on overflowing affection for others.

Mr. Rogers was a great man.
He's a great role model, for sure. Such a kind-hearted soul, very selfless. He's what mankind should strive to be, really, unconditionally kind.
I consider him to be my secondary Role Model. He was a great man who's legacy will probably live on in a lot of people.

Aww, I don't know if you're serious or not, but if you are... Thanks! <3
You don't want me as a role model, I assure you. There are much better people to look up (Or in my case, down upon) to. <3

Meh, you're more of a really good friend than a role model.
But in all seriousness I will post pictures and descriptions of my role models.

“I wouldn't recommend sex, drugs or insanity for everyone, but they've always worked for me.”
    ~Hunter S. Thompson

Hunter S. Thompson is my favorite journalist/writer ever. His style of insanity and pure loathing for society is what makes me enjoy his personality so much. I tend to base a lot of my styles of non-fiction off of him. Though the only thing I think I'll try not to follow with him is the suicide thing... Yea... That's not so good...

"What do you think of this band Modest Mouse?"
    -Friend of Mine
"They're okay. I don't like them as much as my band."
    -Isaac Brock

Isaac Brock is the lead singer of the band Modest Mouse. He is an angry, upset alcoholic with a history of dramamine and whip-it abuse. He is an amazing lyricist who I base a lot of my styles of poetry off of. I saw Modest Mouse live a few summers ago, and they were absolutely amazing. I got to actually meet Isaac Brock.
Here's a picture of us together.

If you haven't heard Modest Mouse, I suggest checking them out.

Wow, thanks. I seen the posts below this so I know I'm not a real role model, but still, thank you.
