I'm curious to know who you first told that you watch MLP and how that conversation went. I first told one of my friends that I knew wouldn't judge me as much as some of my other ones would. I did this by bringing up what would you do if I was a brony, (while I was scrolling through my iPad next to him which purposely had a pony picture ready). He was like I dont know but your not and then the pic came up and he was kinda freaked out and literally said WTF. After explaining it a little he kinda understood but still thought it was weird. what about you guys how did your first time telling someone you watch My Little Pony go?
I told my close childhood friend Jack, and he was like, "Fluttershy best pone." I was like, "No way!" Then he said, "Yep, I watch it too. XP."
Never tried to hide it, but I didn't go out of my way to tell anybody. My mom noticed my pony wallpaper one day and asked about it, because it doesn't look anything like the My Little Pony she remembered. I explained everything to her, she thought it was neat, and the rest is history. Not very exciting. :T
Good to see that y'all had good experiences, it can go pretty bad for some. The first person I officially told was my niece, though I don't remember how it exactly went. She was watching me play a game, and I either switched to my Xbox dashboard (which has a pony background), or changed inputs to my media player (which runs MLP pretty much non-stop), saying something to the effect of "look, ponies!" Turns out she had seen a few episodes, so we started talking about it, and I ended up dragging her in deeper. The rest of the family started asking questions when the merchandise and t-shirts started showing up. They weren't so accepting at first, but after a year or so have finally come around, though I still can't get any of them to watch it lol. The closest I came was with my sister, who use to play with the first generation when we where kids. She caught a bit but didn't care for the new look, asking me "what did they do to them?" To which I simply replied, "they made them awesome."
My younger sister. She thought it was cool and even started drawing the ponies on tumblr and watching the show with me! She's not as into it anymore, but still likes it. My passion, however, will never die. Too bad I can't draw nearly as well as she can. Yep, that was way back in 2011....
My mother was the first person I told. It began as a "did you know this fandom existed?" sort of conversation, and when I could see how open she was towards it I confessed, and she was still open. Heck, she even buys me merch sometimes. Everyone else I know I've told too. Still accepted just the same.
The first person I ever told was one of the guitarists in my band, via FB message. He barely even acknowledged it at the time, so I doubt he even had half a clue what I was talking about. The first person I told in-person was my little sis. Her reaction was initially one of incredible disbelief, and she made fun of me pretty relentlessly for some time. She warmed up to it over time and is now, herself, a brony. Albeit not as hardcore as yours truly.
The first person (well...people) I told were my Grandmother, my cousin (12 years old) and my little sister (6 years old). My grandmother and cousin took it greatly. totally accepted it which was great. I regret telling my little sister though because I told the three of them that I wasn't ready to tell my parents yet because I don't know how they'd react, so I made them swear to secrecy. only problem: my sister has a big mouth. I had bought myself a metal lunch tin with Princess Luna on it and showed it to them. of course, when my folks came to get us that day, my sister told them I had gotten that. they never saw it, nor have I admitted it to them yet. The only other person who knows about it is one of my other cousins (16 years old) whom I told while I was out at the mall with her. she was totally ok with it and that made me feel good to tell her. xD
My brother barged into the room while I was watching the show on Netflix. He was like "WTF is this?". I said "I don't know either. Trying to find out why this is popular". Eventually I started to like the show
Hmmmm... the first person I told was my sister cuz I knew she wouldn't mind it the my mom which she was totally fine with, my dad on the other hand didn't like the idea at all he didn't talk to be for a weeks or so, my brother hates it and he picks on me a lot now that he knows
I told my 8 year old niece about the show because I thought she'd like it, she said "who wants to watch a bunch of dumb ponies!" And then proceeded to do her impression of an air raid siren proclaiming to everyone in earshot that I liked my little pony... Yeah I was tempted to smack a lil b**** .
I actually heard about the show from some friends online, so the conversations went pretty well when I told them I liked it. As far as real life went, it was kinda mixed. I basically told friends I liked it by watching it in front of them. A few friends casually liked it. Another one looked like he liked it (because he asked to watch another episode after the first one) then said he wasn't a fan. Later he told his dad I liked it to see his reaction (because his dad is a tiny bit of a redneck) and we laughed about it. And my little brother kept bugging me about liking it nonstop until I started ignoring him, then saw me watching an episode and joined in. After that, he watched the ENTIRE first season and posted a comment saying "i love this show" before telling me a year later that "the show is for little girls" and all that standard anti-brony stuff. So my friends pretty much all liked it, but were afraid to admit it. My parents, on the other hand, were a bit more embarrassing. I was so in love with the show a few years ago that I tried to get them to get me a hat with Applejack's cutie mark on it (because that was the only thing that didn't look suspicious). It was still a pretty dumb idea because they figured it out right away and gave me a hard time about it. If I were to do it over again I'd be less in-your-face about it. I really shouldn't have had to go through all of that just because I liked a TV show.
I remember. It was my mom I told about, when me, her, my brother, my step-dad, my step-brother and step-sister were in vacation in Mexico years ago. My mom honestly thought I was joking-and although I do act funny occasionally, I don't make those kinds of jokes. Then my family did the unthinkable-they were asking me (while trying to hold in laughter) if I like Strawberry Shortcake and Littlest Pet Shop as well... Thankfully they're alright with it now.
I told a close friend who I knew liked the art style, which then prompted her to watch the series and become a fan. I also wore a Rainbow Dash T-Shirt into my college. That was a shock for the class since I'm a Goth and have a love of morbid humour...Even more so when the friend I mentioned earlier said she watched it too as she's similar to me. No bad reactions, just shock. My parents are fine with it. They don't approve but they don't try to stop me. The only bad reaction I got was an old friend stopped talking to me completely because of the stereotype created by those who dislike Bronies but the way I see it, if she starts hating me for that then she wasn't a very good friend anyway! ^.^
I told my mother and pretty much no one else. There really isn't much to say about how the conversation went. She didn't really care all that much.
