I mainly bring this up because I have come across a guy on the app ifunny whose name will not be mentioned. All of his posts are related to religious intolerance and atheist superiority. He seems to be regareded by everyone as a very tolerant and understanding person. My main gripe is as he constantly says over and over in debates "Religious people are idiots and don't deserve to have a say in anything because they bring their beliefs into it" (I'm sure many of you see the lapse in logic inside that statement) yet if you try and fight him on it he brings in 20-30 other people that then go on and on about how amazing he is. It's not just this guy, I have had this same situation in many other places as well in real life this just happens to be the most recent and ongoing. I just wanna know what everyone thinks about this or other situations where you see this happen. What idiots are there in your life that debate such touchy subjects with no logic at all but are considered by all to be a logical genius and expert debater?
This is the Internet you are talking about, on a place called IFUNNY. That's like trying to have an intelligectual discussion on the meaning of life with a dog. No, idiots are not held with any kind of high regard, it's just that Internet anonity empowers people to act like that and get away with it.
I have yet to participate in that particular situation where an idiot is venerated for his appearance of a logical argument. I have been swarmed by people for ideas, religious specifically, and had to defend myself. But I understand the feeling of the situation as I've seen it. It is just the ignorance of our society as a whole. If you can pull out any info on any subject no matter how minor the information is which you can establish a foundation on then you win as long as you say it the loudest and the longest. It's absolute crap and I hate people for it and it worsens when you speak about touchy subjects, religion, gay marriage and such, becaue people will flock to like minded individuals and stand on that one piece of information and branch out in any way they can because at least they have that one foundation to stand on and can add their voice to the initial idiot who only had the one piece to begin with.
If we get enough people, could we use this as a foundation for hating others' foundations and opinions and eventually have a subgroup that hates the rest of the group for having an opinion of others' opinions and having this cycle continue within the initial subgroup?
Feminists. They HAVE EQUAL RIGHTS. But apparently, they don't. People who FORCE FEED religion. (MISSIONARIES.) Also, not all atheists are idiots. Most aren't.
While technically they do, it goes further than just having the same laws and rights applied to both genders, it's much more fundamental than that. But to answer the OP. Idiots are very confident people, I would say it's that confidence which manages to win people over.
