I have heard numerous reasons that people like the show and I decided to post a post to figure out what the most prevalent reasons are. So take your picks from the poll and then post your reasons if you want to.

There is no way for me to enforce this, but please pick your top 3 only!

I might even talk about the results on my blog, yay:smile:

Kind of awkward, I sort of voted more than three times. That's what I get for voting before reading the first post.

I also like the show for its morals. It's cool to now that you're learning how to be a better human by watching these ponies.

Can you please hit me? I only read the part about top three after voting.
But, yes, I was wondering why we hadn't seen a post like this before.

Yes Morals, would be a good one, I Ride, but the poll has a maximum of 10 options that would have to be a part of other. Maybe somepony should suggest longer polls, to the administrators.

HAHAHA, you gotta read the post guys....hehehe...

It was tough, but I ended up choosing "characters", "fanbase creations", and "community".

I loved the personalities of the ponies. They each have their own strenghs and faults and there's something I love about each of them....particularly Fluttershy.

The community is the most loving and awesome community I've ever seen, and I'm proud to be part of it. Their own creations are mind-boggingly awesome. The sheer amount of fictions, art, and music always floors me. The creativity is unlike anything I've seen.

So yeah, that's just a small sampling of the reasons I love MLP so much!

There are 2 factors that keep me attached to this community - The show, and the community itself. There have been a dozen threads of why this community is so damn awesome, so I'll just mention the former.

I love My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic for the most simplest of reasons.

    It's a good show.

Seriously, I grew up in the mid-late 90's, and back then cartoons were brilliant. They were well thought out, they here original, they were works of art. Each had their own charm, and that's why I'm considering it the golden age of cartoons. Then the 21st century came along, and things changed. All the good cartoons slowly started dropping out of production, simply because they weren't marketable enough. Why have an excellently well executed cartoons, when you can have a mediocre one that is easy to produce merchandise for? It's a shame, but that's the case nowadays. It's not about the show anymore.

I'd say the last great show, one that was simply sublime and a true work of genius, one that was original, honest and entertaining was Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic shouldn't have been any different. I mean, it's actually based off of a merchandising branch, so it should be the very epitome of what's wrong with modern cartoons. But, there was one thing that prevented it, turned it around, and actually brought back from the grave what it means to make a real cartoon.

Yep, Lauren Faust. Since Lauren worked on shows from the golden age (such as the Powerpuf Girls), she injected that life into the show, and that's what I love about it. It's honest, it's funny, it's pure, it's not trying to be marketable. It's just a thoroughly enjoyable show that's easy to watch. Isn't that what a cartoon is supposed to be? Entertaining?

I love the show because it's a good show. I enjoy sitting down, putting on some ponies, and kicking back. It's unique, it's original, and it's just well thought out to be honest. They haven't made it over the top girly to appeal to the target demographic, they just made a damn good show. Another thing is how it actually teaches kids something. Instead of bowing to the pressure of cool effects and exciting scenes, it actually has a point and a moral at the end of each episode, so there's something to take away from each viewing. It's not in your face about it, other wise the moral would kind of get in the way, but it's there alright.

EDIT: I voted the community, the writing and the fanbase creation ones. I would have voted breaking stereotypes and animation, but those 3 are the main reasons.

^ You see this? This is a culmination of my three reasons. Character for Fluttershy being perfectly adorable no matter what. Fanbase Creations for the art, and Community for chocolatechip being awesome enough to show it to me!

Probably would be the characters/animation/humor. That mostly gets me into it, and to top it all off. Merchandise and Other stuff, like PMV's and Music.

Read the first post-? Why, how odd! Well, I just picked one, as I thought it was a regular poll, and then I saw the results. Tsk to me. Naturally, I had a hard time narrowing it down to just one, but I went with characters, simply because if I don't like the characters on a show, I'm not going to care about anything else. The other two would have been fanbase creations and, mmm, either comedy or community - community since I can only pick one. But while this show doesn't make me roll around on the floor laughing, it does make me chuckle and guffaw like I haven't done with a cartoon in years!

It's simply impossible to drive home why I and so many others like this show in three reasons. The reasons that we are all here break down into two things: the show itself and the community.

The show itself may, on the surface, seem like simple candy-colored ponies going on boring, generic friendship adventures as is expected of these types of shows. However, when you actually watch the show you discover so much more. From just the show itself, the animation is some of the most in-depth I've seen...well, honestly ever. I would not say any cartoon has better animation, although other cartoons have differing styles that make them great. The scripts are another great aspect about this show. The writing is absolutely excellent and everything fits. The plots all work, are all interesting, and continuity is kept. A sub-section of the writing is the character development which is, honestly, presented in one of the best ways I've ever seen. We start off the show with very feminine archetypes represented by each character and from the second episode on each character is developed to show how they differ from their archetype and are more than just one character trait. There's also the singing, which is so professionally done I cannot even describe it, the music, which is even more so, the voice acting, which is just great, and so many more things about the show itself. These all make it a great show.

But that doesn't answer why I love it so much. And I'll get into that now. As I said earlier, all the aforementioned things are just from the show itself. The show as a whole does so much more than just be a great show. It makes people happy. It makes me happy to watch it. It honestly re-teaches lessons that we learn in childhood in such a joyous way that it makes me want to act on them right away. Not only do I think this is brilliant, I think oftentimes it is needed. A concept such as friendship is hard to pin down, and as we grow we lose sight of what it means sometimes. This show is the perfect example of what friendship should be and it presents it perfectly because of how fun it is to watch. Honestly, it doesn't happen to everybody, but I cannot tell you the number of times I just started giggling out of pure joy while watching the show, with all the ponies just standing there being awesome. This is why I love the show so much.

Now, with that out of the way, we can move on to the fandom. The fandom is an excellent plus to helping me love the show as much as I do. For you see, the fandom is made up of the people who have chosen to re-learn the lessons the show has to teach. And the result of that is a gathering of the nicest people known to the world who understand friendship and are open to being anyone's friend. This is a collection of random people with different talents, all of whom get to know each other, help each other, and create with and for each other pony-related things as this is what unites us. All the people I've gotten to know are excellent.

So, in short, I can answer your question with another question. How could you possibly NOT like MLP: FiM?

i like the community, ive never seen a fanbase so united and in touch with the actual creators
i like the writing because instead of relyig on tedious overreapted gags,it intead uses a brilliant mix of storyline and character traits, reulting in a brilliant combination that enraptures audiences of all kinds
and the characters are great due to the fact it breaks the mold of normal shows targeted at small girls and young women(though as we`ve proven it can be popular with all orts of people)by providing mane characters with a range of personalitys, without being overtly girly, with each one displaing a unique trait

My votes went toward the first three: animation, writing, and characters.

I enjoy the animation, because it's got a similar feel to cartoons I watched from the 90's. So it brings me back to the glory days of cartoons and awesome animation. There is also a surprising amount of attention to detail. Different actions and weather affecting the movement of manes and tails, all the various background ponies, and of course all the various settings. It's just so visually appealing!

The writing is also very good, because they take their cue from a few other cartoons (Powerpuff Girls, Fairly Oddparents, etc.) that also have humor built in for older viewers. Some of the jokes I was surprised to see definitely would be zombie ponies and spiking punch. I think my jaw dropped slightly just before I laughed insanely at both of those jokes. I would never have expected it! The writers also do an excellent job at coming up with interesting names for places and characters. I also really enjoy the dialogue, as it fits each character well (even if a few are somewhat overly stereotyped).

I chose the characters option, because I enjoy seeing the main characters each with their own individual personality, and how that meshes with another pony who is pretty much the complete opposite. There are also some slightly more daring personalities, like Rainbow Dash as a tomboy. You don't see that very often in other cartoons, and I feel they do a good job with it. Since all the personalities are so diverse, that makes it more appealing to a larger viewing audience, since chances are they can find at least one character they can relate to in some way.
