Idk. To me it always seemed strange. I guess it works to add a little more attention to Rarity every now and then since she does seem to go unnoticed more so than the other 5. However, it seems to me that it would be much more interesting if Spike had a thing for Twilight, being that he lived with her and all. Thoughts?
He's A Dragon, he eats Gems, Rarity's cutie marks are gems, its probably a sub-concious things.... or Maybe spike is just one of those guys that has the misfortune of falling for really prissy women, hey it happens. But overall its a cartoon, they are both mythological creatures, I find you finding it weird to be weird, but meh to each their own. Also Twilight is like Spike's sister, if he had a thing for her...that would NOT go over well with MANY soccer mom groups, and dood, its just kind weird, this isn't an anime m'kay! XD.
He's horny, and Rarity, by traditional standards, is the most beautiful of the group. He's like a 12 year-old human.
Let me just add that it's possible that gems are an aphrodisiac. I'd rather not go into details though.
basically this. and technically, they both have similar interests and love same stuff (gems). And, well, Rarity is the one that is always grooming herself and trying to looks as best as possible, and well, Spike probably has a thing for that kind of girls.
I just assume since Rarity is suppose the one who is into fashion and beauty and suppose to be the most "feminine" one by personality, he has a crush on her. The 1st episode basically answers you question, plus since she has the gem CM and I always thought of her to be the richest of the M6, thus she has a lot of them.
... When I saw this thread, I was gonna mention that both of them have a special relationship with gems. But it appears everybody ever beat me too the punch.
Well, remember that he was attracted to her ON SIGHT in the first episode, so whether or not his crush became stronger after actually meeting her, it had to do with her visual aspect
Cuz if he lived with Rarity, he'd have gems for life and he'd never go hungry. I could see how she might get abusive if he ate her gems though...
I probably deserve to be flogged for saying this, but this picture sets the stage for a very smutty fanfic... Now I hate myself for thinking of that.
