So, I got this idea during work, and I wanted to run it by you guys, see what you think. I'm thinking of setting up a world wide charity drive, where everypony on this forum, on the same day near the end of winter and the beginning of spring, sells homemade cakes and muffins and apple foodstuffs. The proceeds would go to a non-profit organization, who would donate the money to a charity of choice based on regional vote. It's a fun idea, but I doubt anyone would be behind it. But we'd essentially be wrapping up winter by trying to spread a message of love, tolerance, and friendship. If anons around the world can raid the Co$ on the same day, why can't bronies do something good for the planet using the same method?
Excellent idea... Sadly I live in a rural town. So there's not much I can do... Maybe next winter, if I move by then.
It's a good idea, but not all of us are bakers. I'd have to look into what's involved - I'm sure there's some stupid city ordinances we have to follow. It's probably not as complicated as I think it is, but I imagine it's still a bit of work. Also, Winter Solstice might be a better time of year to do such a thing, although that just gives us three months, instead of six. People notice all the things they're missing during that time of year. Might be easier to just donate the food.
I can cook, but there's no one to sell it to. Rural town. I dunno what help I can be, but if there is something I can do to help then I will.
I don't trust worldwide funds and whatnot, after I read about the economics behind it. So, while I won't DIRECTLY participate, I'll still help out however I can.
^this. Most "Non-Profit" Organizations have their own coffers. I'll participate only if it's to a charity that I know of and trust.
Well, the idea was that we gather funds, and at the end of the day, send them to the designated person in our region that we can trust to handle all that money. Then, the region would vote on which charity to give it to, and the entrusted person would donate the money to that charity. I wouldn't mind my money going to the Ray of Hope, personally.
