My question is this, what do you guys think life in Equestria was like 1000 some years ago, before Luna turned evil. Was it the same, different, or hay, maybe even more advanced? I always see it as the medieval times. Where everypony was working hard, fighting off monsters, more castles located everywhere, similar to our world's medieval times. What do you guys think?
I imagine that it had. Lot's of knight ponies. Or maybe it was right when the world was created. I wonder what it was like before Luna and Celestia.

I was thinking like a med-evil type of land. like how pinkie pies parents lived. I kinda would like to think it had alot of technology and was super advanced till something happend and it all got destroyed. Luna and Celestia had to rebuild from scratch.
I was thinking the same thing. But that brings up another topic, was the world just created right there and then, or was there rulers before, like their mom and dad.
Interesting that you should bring up that topic, my fanfic Avengers of the Lost sort of goes back to when Celestia and Luna where still fillies and their parents where still around.
Omg sydra. This topic brought alot to my mind. I am guessing they ruled together and everyone was united. But when luna and princess celestia seperated, a great battle took place until luna ran from celestia.
Pinkies parent's choice of clothing was in style.. ..there was no nightmare night.. ..there was no global warming so it was 20% cooler.
Well so far all we know is that royalty still used the Royal "We" back then. Luna didn't really know what "fun" was (well, she might have known what it was, she just didn't think Princesses were allowed to have fun!), among other things, which tells me at the time the idea of Princesses having "fun" was a ridiculous idea. Obviously that attitude faded away, possibly due to Celestia's influence. My theory has always been that Celestia and Luna had parents and other family, although Discord muddles the issue somewhat. Did he steal the throne and take over from Celestia and Luna or their parents or...what? Was he maybe the original ruler of the world (or just Equestria)? After all, he probably invented such things as Poison Joke and maybe even the original outbreaks of Cutie Pox! It would explain a lot of the FiM universe if Discord had been involved in some way with their world/universe's/whatever's creation or something... Is it weird I don't see Celestia or Luna as goddesses, exactly? I don't know, I just don't think they were involved in creating their universe/world/whatever, but maybe they're descendants of those who did? I LOVE SPECULATION LIKE THIS IF YOU COULDN'T TELL It would be interesting if stuff like this was addressed in the show, but I don't see it happening. ^^;
I think the world before Luna turned evil is not so different as Equestria right now. If the magic still there back in time, ponies were able to do many things. Ok, they needed to pet it and learn it during a time, to perform it. What they didn't have, it's the moderns things that we can see in the show like the scootaloo's scooter or SPA. And probably they didn't have the today's art of the dress, I mean the fashion. Medieval ponies ? mmh why not, i can imagine ponies making war between us. After all, 2 sisters battled for who would lead Equestria, or battle against creatures perhaps ? I can imagine that too. I think the nature was more abundant in the past, so as magics creatures.
Perhaps just because of the way Luna speaks, I also imagine a more medieval world that what it is now. Although the presence of some modern-day technology brings up some problems. Main, did they invent it themselves? And if so, why do the ponies have to pull the train engine if *they're* the engine?! As for Luna and Celestia, I imagine they're goddesses, or so powerful as to make no never mind. I imagine they have parents, instead of springing up from the ground, and perhaps something happened to the parents before Celestia and Luna were ready to rule, so - somepony created Discord? Yeah, kind of breaks down a bit there.
The only problem is - who? Who *could* create Discord? Maybe Celestia's parents . . . or some power behind the Throne? Zounds, I open a can of worms with that one.
RE: The train engine thing, that was just a visual gag to joke about all the Schizo Tech that goes on in this show. I mean, look at the technology in Twilight's basement compared to most stuff in the show. They don't really take it seriously, but it's still fun to think about all this, isn't it? Hmmm, I suppose we may never know. Another theory is that they used to be ordinary ponies and for whatever reason the Elements made them immortal, etc.
In my fic, I went with a medieval theme, especially in dialect. Unfortunately, that wasn't taken to very well. In later chapters, I imagine there being past rulers. Times back then would've been more primitive and tumultuous, so I tend to visualize them as more powerful or with a more punitive world view in mind. This ultimately ends up as a coin, because I view it as two rulers -- one for each celestial object, and one for the light and the darker paths/themes.
I imagine it was like medieval times where everyone spoke thus and parents were stricter and more superstitious, making their children go to bed early. If that's the case, I would understand why Luna was so upset that everyone hid away and slept at night.
