(Fill up the character sheets in the interest check thread, i kinda realized after making the thread here) You two wake up in wherever you stay in Ponyville. a Lunar guard has left a note on your door last night, without you knowing yet.
Melodic Scale wakes up with a groan. Is it morning already? He checks his clock. 6:30 Oh, horsefeathers. It is. Well I guess I better get up. That rainstorm isn't gonna bring itself to Sweet Apple Acres. He dragged himself out of bed. The last few days had been particularly brutal. There'd been far too much weather scheduled around Ponyville, and it was going to be the same way for the next week. Making himself a cup of coffee, he prepared himself for the long day ahead. When he stepped out of the house, he saw a note with the seal of the lunar guard on his doorstep. "Huh?" He asked to nopony in particular and picked up the letter. "Why am I getting letters from the lunar guard?"
Letter simply reads: ''Get to Canterlot's Castle for 5pm, and make sure nopony follows you. An escort will take you from the train station after the 3:42 train this afternoon, if you happen to take this mean of transport. Get rid of this note after lecture. This information must be kept secret.'' Following the small note was a file containing information on a certain amulet, but the name doesn't sound any bells. ''The Amulet of Faith - magical artifact used by the princess to bring faith to her subjects.'' (If you want additionnal info, just mention that you read the files.)
Upon reading the note, Scale's mind began racing as he thought the situation out. Hmm... there's no way that I can just skip work for this without attracting attention, and I know if I told my boss the truth she'd be suspicious. I guess I could just call in sick today. I probably should make it look like I'm too sick to get out of the house. They'll send somepony over soon enough to find out why I'm not at work. In the meantime, I should make sure I look sick, and maybe read up on these files. After he had settled in on the couch under a blanket with a wet washcloth on his head for his "fever," he opened the files on the Amulet of Faith and began reading them, waiting for somepony from the weather team to ask why he wasn't at work.
The files described the effects of the Amulet. ''When somepony wears this amulet, even if not a magic user, his inner magic responds to every sparks of hope in everypony's heart. As such, it is to the wearer to grant the wishes of the one who prayed or not. It's power, however, is limited: It can only grant the wish of anypony once per day. [...] When used in a bad way, the amulet can bring sadness in pony's hearts, boosting it's counterpart amulet, ''The Alicorn Amulet''. This amulet boostes one's magical abilities much more than the Amulet of Faith, but consumes one's heart into hatred and corruption. [...] If both amulets are worn at once, it can create a loop of hatred, leading to powers with no bounds. That is why-'' The rest of the files are missing.
"Powers with no bounds?" Scale's head starts swimming with ideas. If the lunar guard had sent him a letter giving him this letter, then did that mean they had reason to believe somepony was in possession of both amulets? And why did they send the letter to him, of all ponies? if anything, this sounded like a job for the Elements of Harmony. But then again, they had just left a few days ago, to where, he had no clue. Maybe they were already on the case, but needed more help. Fortunately, he had become so worried that by the time he heard a knock on the door, which likely belonged to another weatherpony, he was covered in a cold sweat, which served to make his fake sickness much more convincing. In a weak voice, he said, "Come in," to the pony on the other side of the door.
The other Pony, Thundermane, came in. ''Morning, Scale. Rise and shine, it's a new work day!'' he closed the door behind him, already walking in the living room. ''Come on, sleepy-head, you're late!''
Fortunately, Melodic Scale had just hidden the files under his couch before Thunderane came in. Upon seeing him come into the living room, Scale croaked, "I'm not sure if you've noticed, but I'm not exactly feeling the best right now. I have a headache like you would not believe, and," he produced a pretty convincing cough from the heart of his lungs, "this bucking cough has been irritating me all day," he coughed again. "I'm sorry, but I can't come into work today. Can you guys take care of things for today?"
Thundermane's eyes narrowed. ''It's not some petty excuse to skip the job to write some songs again, isn't it?'' His irises slowly widened, marking his words with suspicion.
"Does this look like an excuse? You know me, Thundermane. I may have done that a *cough* few times before, but that was on light days that didn't need as many ponies on weather duty. I've never skipped a day that we actually had a lot of clouds to move," Melodic pleaded
Thundermane cocked an eyebrow. ''Aiight, just get some sleep. Butm as soon as you feel better, come see me. I hope the boss won't make you do some overtime for that!'', he chuckled. ''If you need anything, job ends at 7 pm for me today. Just send me a message or come by if you can stand up.'' With that, he looked outside. ''Oh, flying feathers! Have you seen the sun's position? Now I'LL be late! Take care, Mel!'' Thundermane quickly dashed to the door and left, a small color trail behing him. A few seconds after his departure, the door finally closed with a small 'click', indicating it closed properly.
Melodic let out a sigh of relief. Of all the ponies that could've checked on him, it had to be the one that knew about his antics the best? After grabbing the note and the fileand placed them in his saddlebags. This was one of those times that Mel thanked Celestia his house was on the outtskirts of Ponyville, as he could just sneak out the back door of his house and quickly dash out of Ponyville without anypony noticing. Hmmm... I hope that that note wasn't saying I have to take the train. It's barely after 10 in the morning, so the train doesn't leave for over a 5 hours. I could fly to Canterlot in that time. Speaking of that letter, I should probably get rid of it while I'm out of town...
Crimson had spent his entire morning having to clean his house due to the sheer amount of junk that had accumulated over the course of three days. Once he had brought out his music-player, and his vacuum cleaner, the onslaught of cleaning began. With his music playing at full blast and all hearing from the outside world blocked, he did not notice the letter entering his porch. Once he was done however, curiosity got the better of him as he found the strange letter on the ground. Upon reading it, he soon locked the house and headed towards the address with his headphones hidden inside of his grey hoodie.
@Pheerthanite: You've still got plenty of time left. Flying to Canterlot takes around two hours at maximum. @Crim: The files are incomplete for you too. (And, how will you go to canterlot, out of curiosity?)
Mel committed the note to memory, then decided it was time to dispose of it. Unfortunately, he had no idea where to do such a thing. He began looking around, hoping to see something that he could use to get rid of the letter. His answer came to him when he looked to the south and saw a sprawling mass of trees. Melodic Scale gulped. As dangerous as the Everfree Forest was, it was the only place where he could safely destroy the note. Gathering his confidence, he took off towards the forest, still making sure he steered clear of Ponyville, or any clouds for that matter. Eventually, he made it to the thick foliage that was the Everfree Forest. After a moment's hesitation, he stepped in, and was immediately greeted with darkness. As daunting as the prospect was, he'd have to go fairly deep into the forest to make sure nopony could ever find it. After about an hour of wandering, Mel came to a small marsh. This is good a spot as any, he thought, and pulled out the note. He began ripping it to pieces, throwing the most minuscule ones into the water at his hooves. there's no way anypony could find these now. His business done, Melodic Scale shot up into the air. After fighting his way through the thick understory of the forest, he emerged past the canopy and was finally reunited with the sun. After looking around, he saw Canterlot Mountain off in the distance and started flying in that direction, once again dodging Ponyville.
No comment or DMing to do here. Instead, THE EVERFREE? IT'S FAR TO DANGEREOUS AND- ok, next time you go in there, you won't get out without any scars. Now, Off to Canterlot! *joyfull song playing in background while stiking a vicoty pose on a steed*
