As some of you might have noticed, I've been watching a load of anime in the past couple of weeks. I've managed to get through the whole of Lucky Star and finish the first season of K-On!, and the spectacular season finales of both the shows got me thinking. How do the Friendship is Magic season finales stack up to other shows?

For reference, here's the season finale for Lucky Star, and here it is for K-On!. I loved the K-On ending, it tied the whole series together nicely, and was actually pretty nostalgic. Some of it might be lost on those who haven't seen the full series, but it was an amazing end to a brilliant (if short) first season.

As for MLP... In my humble opinion, the final episode of season one was one of my least favourite of the series as a whole, and the ending of The Best Night Ever in general was probably the weakest of any show I'd come across. It was fine, but it lacked any kind of emotion or big finish to round up the season. Personally, I was disappointed.

However, the season finale for season two was just magnificent. I'm sure I don't need to remind you just how awesome the episode was as a whole, and the ending specifically was near-perfect, the best possible way to send off another awesome season. Too many little things to count, and enough new material to keep the fandom busy until season three. I'm having a really hard time deciding which I prefer... The K-On sendoff, with it's awesome musical ending, or the MLP sendoff, with it's just as awesome musical ending. I really don't know, but I'd love to hear what you guys think.

As well as discussing that, how about posting some of your favourite endings to TV shows you like? I know that RvB, or at least the Blood Gulch Chronicles had a great ending, and there's bound to more awesome stuff out there. However, I can see this thread getting spoiler-tastic pretty quickly, so be sure to give us a heads up if anything gets given away.

I remember the final episode for Yugioh. That was basically a card game that lasted 3 episodes. But I thought that it was quite interesting how he ended up winning.

The Zero no Tsukaima ending was rather good, with one of the main enemies being brutally beaten with...

A light tap from a stick.

I actually agree with this as well. That said, Season 2 however had the best finale for any TV show that I have ever come across. It had great animation, music, fan service, and is to date one of the only endings to a show where I have wept manly tears almost all the way through because of the pure emotion that went into such a glorious send-off.

Other finales, I thought the ending for Dr Who Season 4 was very good, you know, where the Daleks stole the Earth and Rose came back and everything. Being a massive Dr Who fancolt at the time, that was freaking awesome. Oo and Season 3, because The Master is great for the same reason I like Discord, evil but quirky.

Apart from that, not many of the shows I watch have even HAD a big send-off finale to a season or I just can't remember them....

I absolutely despise any ending which makes me cry.

I watch a show to be entertained, not to have a massive wave of emotion rush over me.

Yep. The Best Night Ever actually is my least favorite episode. I mean, I get where they were coming from that "sometimes breaking the rules of society helps in the end", but as a finale, it didn't really work too well. But that was before they had fully acknowledged bronies. You can clearly see the difference in effort put into episodes from Season 1 to Season 2. Whether bronies had a larger influence, or it was due to getting better at writing/designing/etc can be debated. But whatever the cause, Season 2 as a whole was fantastic, and the finale was one of the greatest out of any recent TV show I've seen.

Aww. The Best Night Ever is far and away my favorite episode of the series. It might not be very big and theatrical like Canterlot Wedding was, but they did a superb job of building up expectations for this event throughout the first Season, only for it to go so horribly wrong in the end. What it lacks in plot and character development it makes up for in pure hilarity and entertainment. It also marks the first real appearance of Fluttershy's darker side.

As for best Season finales in general? Buffy the Vampire Slayer really has some of the most memorable finales in TV history. Becoming Parts 1 and 2, Graduation Day Parts 1 and 2, Restless, and The Gift are easily some of the finest pieces of writing I'd seen on TV in a long time.

It doesn't count as it is an OAV series, but best ending to any series ever I would have to give to the last episode of Studio Gainax's Gunbuster.

For cartoon series/season finales I'd have to say Ed edd and eddy and both mlp fim season finales. For anime I'd have to say Cowboy Bebop. That series finale was just plain awesome in so many ways. I should really start a thread on that show.

I really liked the ending to Puella Magi Madoka Magica, too.
