Now I don't want any fighting over whose ideas are right or wrong. I want a friendly discussion in which we can learn more about each other. Do you consider yourself Liberal, Independent, or Conservative? How so? I'm independent myself. I am all for gay rights and trans rights. I want all religions to be treated equally and all sexes to be treated equally. I don't support abortion and am strictly pro-life. I am not a big fan of the notion of global warming, being a person who enjoys science. So how about you guys?
I don't side with any political party. I adhere to my own morals and come to my own conclusions. When I registered to vote, I registered as a Republican (you cannot vote in NY state as an Independent, otherwise that would have been my choice).
I guess I'm a Liberal. I hold with most of their ideals, especially LGBT Rights. I think environmental awarenes, protection, and preservation is important. I support equal treatment based on sex, ethnicity, and religion, and I'm all for a Secular Society. I don't believe I should have much of a say in abortion, though inevitably the question comes up, so I'd classify myself as Pro-Choice for the sake aligning myself with a side; both sides, to me, make valid points. I do not subscribe to a religion, and though I was raised Catholic Christian, I hold with none of their religious beliefs. I could really go on and on about religion; I think it's a cool concept, and there are a lot of religions out there that come up with unique perspectives on life, the universe, and everything. Technically, I could be classified as an Atheist, for I do not believe in a god or gods. Following that train of thought, I also do not believe in spirits, ghosts, or the existence of a soul. I live in the United States of America, and I love my country, no matter its faults. I think that a Democratic Socialist society would be good for the U.S. I also hate that America is involved in so many conflicts, being a peace-loving person myself. I would say that, politically, Gay Rights is the most important issue to me. However, I have a lot of other values that aren't really represented in the political spectrum. I value friendship, and also love. My favorite conversation peices that I like to talk about with my friends include religion, politics, morals, and all the wonders contained within the universe.
May as well add that I'm Atheist before I begin. *AHEM* I am pro choice. I am pro gay marriage. I am...not really sure what political party I would be. I hate politics. Period. I'm okay with religion, as long as they're not waving their books in my face and screaming "BELIEVE WHAT I BELIEVE!" As for equal rights, that is what bugs me most. The amount of racism going around is REALLY not what we need right now. If there was a way to get it fixed, I would be on that in a heartbeat, but people who are racist are like MLP haters; you just can't reason with them.
I could go into a while wealth of detail about this, but since I'm on a phone, I'll keep it simple. I'm socially left. I'm fiscally centre. I'm strongly pro-choice. I'm strongly atheist. The church and the government should remain completely separate. I would rather there be no conflicts. As for parties, I don't like the ideals of both the Democrats and Republicans, and Britain's parties fare no better. I'm not patriotic. I dislike nationalism and traditionalism. I believe in a happy medium between authoritarianism and libertarianism.
My idealogy: Religion I'm a Christian. This does not however, mean that I only agree with what is written in the Bible. The key thing to Christianity is that you're a follower of Christ, not exactly a worshipper if you don't want to be. The religion itself is based upon common sense with it's commandments: Don't kill, don't commit adultery, don't steal etc, and who would disagree to follow those rules? Not following them in society would lead us on the path to chaos. As for Jesus himself, the messages of his stories gave good morals, i.e. The Good Samaritan, The Prodigal Son etc, help people in need and such like. He doesn't have to be the Son of God to be possibly the most morally correct person that the world has ever seen, and there's just too much information about him for him not to have existed altogether. Most of the stuff in the Bible I believe to be symbolic, so no, I don't literally think that Adam and Eve were the only people to populate the Earth. I think the story was just symbolising how man can be greedy, and then if we do not teach the next generation how to properly act, they will suffer too, which is shown through the progression into the story of Cain and Abel. Rights When it comes to human rights, I strongly believe that people should be able to live their life how they want to live it, with the few obvious exceptions. This being, people shouldn't be allowed at all to kill other people, because everypony has the right to live, and it would just be cruel to kill. As for gay rights, gender rights, racial rights etc, I believe everypony is totally equal, and it should not be said otherwise, for we are all human at the end of the day. Oh, animal rights are important too, but hay, a guy's gotta eat what a guy's gotta eat, and that includes meat in your diet as nature intended. Politics I definately lean more to the left wing in this occasion. Not so much Communism, but I do support the Labour party in our country. The Conservatives to me, are just making everything worse, leading us into a double dip recession, and making cuts and taxing everything in the country as well, rather than focussing on what really needs to be addressed to get the problem sorted. I don't think people gave Labour enough of a chance, and I foresaw all this happening. People think, "Oh, Labour aren't doing this quick enough for me, I'll vote Conservative because they'll solve it instead", so they do, but then it's all, "Oh, the Conservatives have made things worse, I'll just complain and moan about our government now." Kinda silly if you ask me. Liberals, eh, they don't really do much to solve anything as they're central wing based, and that could be a good thing in given time, but just not at the moment in the situation that we're in. Patriotism While I dislike the current government, I am very patriotic, and I'd love to see our country do much better again, modernising ourselves and getting back into the big leagues of new frontiers and stunning environments. We've been a central part in the history of the world, good (or unfortunately at some points bad), but overall, I'm proud of the country that I live in, and I only hope that people like the chavs and such like fade out. Great Britain needs to live up to it's name, now more than ever.
Politics: Not me, so dont ask, because I dont know. Religion: I belive in stuff like luck. Thats about it there, each to thier own. -I agree with Gay/ Les marriages and in fact my Brother is getting married later this year and I shall be attending - I agree with most things, as people can choose how they live thier life. -HOWEVER! I do not agree that people can do whatever they want and will need to be kind and share love and tolerance. Or at least have Empathy. -That is my Ideals. Nothing shall change them.
This is something I tend to think about very little, as I just things roll. Politics: I quite literally have no idea. I just want equality for everyone, specifically race, sex, and LGBT. Religion: born "christian", now agnostic-atheist. I still follow morals brought on by it however, I am exploring such things in other religions, such as Buddhism, just not the beliefs part. I am strongly pacifist, just wanting peace and love. You could pretty much call me a hippy really.
I actually don't know any of those terms listed above, but I can give my position as it is now. Politics Personally I do not think politicians are doing their job. Almost everyday on the news here in SA you hear about a new form of corruption in the government. My president himself, has been on charges of rape but as soon as he became president, those charges disappeared. It's near impossible nowadays to find a country with an honest or decent person in power. That being said, I am still patriotic. I want the best for my country, for the government, but for the people, if a war were to break out, I would be one to go sign up and fight. Religion I am a Christian, I took Jesus as my Lord and Saviour, and I obey his commandments. Those are the key things here. Nothing will change that. I will admit that I do often try to get friends of mine to change from atheists to Christians, As it is said in the Bible that Jesus went and made disciples that would make disciples. This meaning that he wants us to use get people to follow him and be saved. THAT BEING SAID, I am not a person who runs around yelling "BELIEVE WHAT I BELIEVE OR ELSE YOU WILL GO TO HELL!!" I am also not pushy, if I can see that the person won't listen or doesn't want to, I leave them alone, I do not keep pressing on Yelling "BUT IF YOU DON'T YOU GO TO HELL." I know if someone is getting annoyed or not and I know if someone is even interested or not. You may question why I do this, it is because I love my friends and mankind, I want the best for them. All these actions that people see as ludicrous I am doing out of love, but if you don't want to believe that is perfectly fine with me. I'll leave you alone. As for other ideas. I am absolutely neutral with the ideas of Gay marriage and transexuality. Gay marriage may go against what is said in my religion, but I am not going to fight it, I will not go against it I will leave it be, as I believe that you can't go and just change the way a person was made, and besides. Part of being a Christian is letting Jesus imitate himself through you, and if he can love everyone and everything no matter what sexuality, gender, race, religion etc. Then so can I. I know gay people and transexuals, some of which are friends of mine, I have absolutely nothing against them, I do not look at faults, I look at what makes them an awesome person, and I have found, that they are more awesome than they are faulted. I hope I didn't offend anyone here, I was just stating my opinions. Also, which one of those terms in the first post would I be, as I do not know.
I believe that the only force one can exert is willpower, and that the only truth is what you can perceive, through others of by yourself.
I'll let fat mike tell you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUZ5gGO0_Pw Link cause mike has a potty mouth. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
As a person I am idealistic to a fault. I believe that all people are equal regardless of sexuality, race, gender, and whatever else that makes us different. I distrust politicians period and I believe no one is above criticism or responsibillity for their actions, not even God. I am pro-choice, but view abortion as a neccesary evil. I am more left winged than right. I am also against the notion of punishment as revenge, viewing rehabilitation as the way to go to handle crime. Spiritually I am a pantheist, I believe in God as a cosmic force, I support all religions but are against any "one true path" and "eternal punishment" doctrines. I also think religion should be something personal and not something enforced by the community. I do not believe in organized religion and consider religious extremism to be my mortal enemy. That being said, I have certain respect for Jesus Christ, but consider Yahwe to be an immoral fiend, though I doubt christians share my image of the God of the old testament, if they did they would not follow him. Poetic Pony: If you want I would like to have a religious discussion on Skype sometime, I feel you could contribute to the answer which I seek.
I don't know whether to classify as a Christian, since I believe in all the bible bits, but I think some of it is exagerated. When one thing happens, it leads to another event which would determine the outcome of the next event. Whether this next event is positive or negative, it's all up to us to decide.
You're fine, man. The point of this is to get to know everyone and how they stand. You could be completely against gay and trans rights and we would still love you. It's your choice to believe what you want and no one should look down on you for it. Though I would recommend accepting people for who they are which is exactly what you are doing. You're cool, bro.
I agree, you are cool. While I may not agree with what you are saying sometimes I would defend your rights to have these opinions to the death. In other words I respect you greatly, but... Though I would argue that the bible indeed does not condemn homosexuality. The only parts that mention it at all is as far as I know in the old testament and in Paul's letters, both which are contradicted by Jesus himself in the gospels. http://www.jesusonhomosexuality.com/
