And I asked myself... Who am I?

Myths, legends, folk lore. I've heard everything. I can tell you a camp fire story that lasts four days straight. Most people think that Slenderman started out as a silly game, or this picture on some sight. Being from Germany, I can tell you otherwise. In our local legends surrounding the Black Forest in the south west regions of the Fatherland, there is a fairy. Not like these small, pixie creatures. Rather, human shaped, yet tall and thin, with not a face of a human, nor any other creature. It would wear the clothes of a knight or a noble, and would take children away, or it would kill, or merely one would see it, and live to tell the tale. I would not be surprised if a demon like that would begin to wear a suit, the mark of the social elite. The Fairy exists also in other lore, and when one seeks the truth, they find a horrible truth: what one would see as merely an urban legend is so much more. In my family, we ourselves have a tale. A long time ago, one of my ancestors made a deal with the Devil, to become one of his children and have great knowledge. And upon this, a curse on our family. The legend says that when one of us dies, we become a kind of Bogeyman, dressed in that of luxury, but becoming a terrible monster that would always snake its way into legend. My great-grandfather says that he once saw this "Slenderman" during the Second World War, but instead of killing him, it killed a small troop of enemy soldiers nearby. He said that the demon saw him, spoke our family's last name, and disappeared into the Black Forest, which is where he was. And this was before I learned of this "urban myth." I think it was before the concept was even conceived. As for this, I ask myself who I am. What lies beyond death? Something to fear? Nothing at all? Something. I do not know.
