Banning for bad grammar?

Wow. More crap that MLP Forums is stacking against themselves. I bet you that they eventually will be shut down in the future for misuse of power and gross misuse of banning ability. There is a lot of crap that can get ban hammered, but bad grammar should never be one of those reasons. I have a decently expansive vocab myself but I still fall victim to spelling somethings wrong, whether it be my genuine inability of knowing how to spell a word or because I'm speed typing.

I agree. That wasn't a particularly good reason to ban him. For all they know he could have dyslexia. I don't know whether he does but it's a possibility. He should have his own #.

no, it's not Yamet, he was special needs, he couldn't help it.he can't communicate very well which put him as the innocent victim on their end. It was not fair judgment, it was criminal.

Its not his fault, Yamet. But we're doing our best to get him unbanned, Lightning has told them everything about how fast has trouble communicating and spelling due to his disabilities.

So Cloudkicker didn't tell them that he had a valid reason for not being able to use proper grammar? Then there is nothing wrong with banning him because of bad grammar.

Yamet, there's a thing called ignorance and really staff with that is not worth keeping. If they have an issue with Fast, they could easily talk and see he had disabilities. Acknowledgement of their mistake is pretty evident, when you have someone who hasn't improved in grammar, there's something wrong and should be talked about within reason. Not just say, "hey a person who can't spell, off with ya" he is special needs Yamet, people like that have to be shown respect.

It was his and the staff's fault for not doing what they were supposed to, not just one person. I do believe they owe him an apology for huritng his feelings and misjudging him unfairly.

Flying does have the a point. While the user maybe didn't make his disablities known, the staff also had no right to kick him out for the reason of bad grammar and leaving at that. A senseable admin or mod would of saw the issue as something that would need to be questioned. What they could of done is ask him why his grammar hasn't improved, instead of assuming it was a choice of incompetence on a purposeful basis and banning him. The issue with MLP Forums is that they like people on a based on favoritism, which is why I kept a low profile and tried to keep out of the staff's hair if I could. There was only one staff member that I was friendly to, to some point and seemed sane compared to the others. That maybe what saved my skin but I really do have to count my blessings that I never got in trouble on there.

The staff did everything they were supposed to do. They gave him a chance to explain himself and a whole year to improve his grammar.

It's not their fault that cloudkicker didn't take that chance.

Technically having bad grammar is breaking the rules of that specific forum, and the admins did give him a chance to either explain his situation or fix it. So I would say that the situation was handled the way it should be.

Problem with that was, he has trouble communicating with anyone, and can't really write out that well. Nothing was handled correctly, he deserves to be treated better than this. The staff have rules on them too, one they must follow is never to dismiss something as the person did as intentional. even if he was warned, his response wouldn't have changed a thing as they would just do it anyway.

Oh please, his response would have changed everything as it would have given him a valid reason to break that rule which means that they wouldn't have banned him.

Also, they were fully within their rights "dismissing" his bad grammar as intentional because he never said anything that proved that it wasn't intentional.

Well, if he did not say that he had a legitimate issue with it then it's kind of his own fault.

And they didn't dismiss anything. They gave him a chance and he didn't take it.

You two fail to understand that for a special needs individual, things like this do not come into their heads to get sorted out.

But that doesn't make it the staff's fault.

It is their fault for not knowing, the job means nothing if you can't deal with your members fairly, just warning them will not fix it. They need to work with them properly, not just "Ban for grammar errors" i don't care if they do it to someone who knows they did wrong, but Fast is hardly able to even say anything they would understand.

Yes, but it is their responsibility to deal with the members that are having the 'issues'. If this was any normal member, then I can agree with what they're saying, but Cloudkicker ain't like a normal member. I mean, for me, if I had grammar issues and the staff said I need to improve, I'd mention that I have a condition which is the result of my communication troubles. But for Cloudkicker, it's just not like that. He won't put his mind into action and mention it as I would.

But the admins don't know that he has a condition. If he didn't mention it then the admins will have to assume that he don't have a condition and treat him like any other member.

It really suck and I feel extremely bad for the guy, but the admins behaved in the way that I personally find to be the best possible way in such a situation like this.

Neither can I, but as a friend of Cloudkicker, I've noticed that he does have these conditions, and I'm not even an expert, in fact, he never even told me. But as a friend, I been able to pick these things up. I get what they're saying and all, but as a Brony community (Which is what MLPF is mostly centered around), it's a bit unfair to throw out a fellow Brony over something that they don't mean to do. Like I've said, his mind won't click like most of us; Common sense for him ain't quite like that in this respect.

But hay, you don't have to be a minder reader to pick these things up. I knew from day 1 that he had some conditions, and the more I spoke with him, the more I became aware of it. The staff could at least have paied just a little more attention to him.

The problemwith admins diagnosing members is that most of them (if not all) aren't educated to do that kind of stuff. And they probably have better things to do with their time.

No, being lazy is not a part of their job. But guess what is part of their job, taking care of those breaking the rules of the forum. And guess what happens to be a rule, using somewhat good grammar.

Point is, if they got to understand he has a commination difficulty, they could at least let the grammar rule slip by for him. Unfair treatment in terms of equality for all members? Maybe so, but he has every right to be in the community.

If you ask me, I think they should start recruiting a member support line of staff that can work with these types of members and get more in-depth with their behaviour patterns.

But bottom line is: It's not something he can help. Common sense doesn't work well for him in terms of letting them know about his condition. Anyone that speaks with him as a friend can easily pick up that he has communication difficulties, and the way he communicates.

In the end, it's a Brony community that should be managed to provide real help for members that have special needs.

You did imply that. But anyway, it sucks that he can't help it, it really does. But that doesn't chance the fact that the staff isn't able to get to know each member that breaks a rule good enough to be able to diagnose them.

Yeah, if they knew that he had a legitimate condition then they should have let the rule slip by. However they couldn't know that and therefore they treat him like any other member.

You guys fail to understand anything, he couldn't do anything to defend himself at all, literally a one-sided situation. So you can give the same excuses over and over for it, but there's no excuse for doing that to a special needs member. This isn't something cloudkciker could help, it's the staff that failed to do other things to get him to speak up.

Well, he could have told them about his condition. I've talked to the admins and they're actually quite reasonable. I'm sure that they would have made a exception of the rule for him if he had told them.

Don't throw stones in glass houses. The point I've tried to make is that the admins couldn't have known and therefore don't have to treat him any different then any other member. And why exactly couldn't he tell them or at least get someone else to do that?

Just one last thing, it actually is if you see that little pattern that seems to repeat itself. I'd know as I do it most times. If they did have a disability you can easily tell when they repeat a sentence like I do in my topic posts. Nobody knows how to fake the real symptoms, they make them up. All it takes is a good set of eyes. That is the truth, I myself can recognize a fellow special needs person just by reading carefully. There, I've said my piece, now let's just agree to disagree at this point.

But I do understand each person could fake it, but never really do it correctly. It's all I'm trying to say, sorry if you two had a bit of a miscommunication with me.

My point wasn't that people could fake having special needs to avoid facing consequences whenever they break a rule. My point was that the staff doesn't have the time or training to diagnose everyone who breaks a rule.

Yamet, I'm not forcing you to agree, just admit that there is a point to my words. MLPF can do whatever the feel like, but it only helps degrade their rep. Having an understanding between member and staff is crucial, and judging based on appearance isn't enough, they need hard evidence to prove he actually did this on purpose.

Doing stuff like this will not be good for them, if they want to be grammar nazi's they can keep it to themselves if they don't like how a person writes. Its okay to tell someone they made an error, but not to punish them for such trivial reasons.

I think it's important to consider that all of the evidence pointed to him doing this on purpose. Also, they aren't grammar nazi's.

No, this is about blaming innocent people (the staff ).

Sorry, but no, I never said I blamed just the staff. While IF Cloud could've said something, sure, but this wasn't the case in his situation. Even with warnings he couldn't say anything even if he wanted to. The staff were equally at fault for not properly assessing the situation, therefore, lack of proper judgment. The point of being staff is to make sure all options are covered, not just go based on their own ideas.

It doesn't matter if you blamed just them or not, because you're still blaming innocent people who did nothing wrong. Also, expecting the staff to diagnose people is just silly.

Here´s the problem with that. They thought there was no more options because nobody informed them that there was any other options.

Think of it this way. If I go to a doctor and ask him to cure me and I withhold information of my sickness, can you blame the doctor for not treating my sickness right?
