Disney buying hasbro

Personally, I feel that Disney buying Hasbro could be a good thing. Disney bought Marvel a while ago, and everyone said "Oh no, this is gonna suck." Then The Avengers was released, and it was face-meltingly AWESOME. Who can say Disney won't do the same to MLP?

@Lord James; the problem I have with that is that The Avengers was a movie and we're talking about how this change would affect FiM which is a TV show. If you're going to cite Marvel after Disney bought it to make a point, please cite a TV series by Marvel after Disney took over, it will give a much better representation of what we might expect.

Considering they just bought LucasArts for $4 Billion, I'm not sure they'll have the funds to buy Hasbro right now...

This was actually discussed on the Facebook page for bronies in my state. One person brought up a very good point about it that I will now copy and paste here.

" I keep my mouth very much shut when it comes to many things because I dun wanna start a fight, but every time I hear rumors in the FiM fandom and see the uproar it causes, my amateur journalist blood begins to boil...~ I have a long and in-depth interest in matters such as investigative journalism and reporting of fact versus rumor~

In about the span of 5 minutes, I uncovered the following just by clicking, searching and doing a bit of reading~

EqD did indeed report it and...they listed it as a rumor acquired from ComicBookMovie.com in an article written by what their site calls a "volunteer contributor~" The quote in question from the source~?

"According to MTV, Disney has been in contact with Hasbro about acquiring them. As of right now it is just talk, but the talks are serious enough that an announcement could be made at any day."

First of all, the source article supposedly got its information from yet another source that they do not cite in the article (no link to MTV found)~ Secondly, the source article is riddled with terrible conventions and grammar mix-ups, which are all levels of taboo for any sort of media publication~ Thirdly, the source article is written by a guy named Waylon Jones and the term "volunteer contributor" is used to describe his position with the website~ In this case, the term is more than likely a fancy euphemism for "blogger" or "forum member~" The Code of Conduct that contributors are required to follow basically says no trolling, no hating and do what you please to draw interest to the community~ I did some checking into his profile and what else he's written and his article pool is full of rumor mills, up-to-the-minute reports and a great deal of other sensationalist updates about news in the comic book world; he seems to run an amateur-style "People/Entertainment Tonight" format~

All of this in 5 minutes...~

I call complete and utter baloney on this rumor and I'm very unhappy that a grand hub for the fandom such as EqD would share it to begin with~ Journalists are supposed to have some sort of integrity and ethical sense of presenting the unvarnished and honest truth~ Sensationalism has destroyed this and now it's invaded the fandom, starting with the abysmal rumors for Season 3 and now this~?

When will it be enough~? ;_;"

Note that what is quoted there does not necessarily reflect my views on matters, but it does show that the rumor is most likely unfounded.

I'm just going to say that I've been very happy with Disney lately. They've put out Epic Mickey and making a sequel, they did Avengers, and all the little stuff. They know how to baby a franchise. Add in their
MASSIVE

Amounts of cash, this might be a good thing. However, they just bought LucasArts. Another gamble of this magnitude would be too big of one. Throw in the fact that it most likely IS a rumour, then I doubt it even more so.

Myself I was most worried about how Disney handles copyright.

But as the rumour is most likely false as proven by Lightning_Mustang, I can breathe a sigh of relief. Not that the quality of the show would suffer under Disney, but it could potentially be bad for fancontent creators and episode distribution.

Hah... Not being a journalist or having any real skills in that terrain, I too just talked about it willy-nilly. Not sure if I was skeptical at first because of how unlikely it all is or because I simply don't want it to happen. Hm...

Seems like EqD now has an article that Hasbro is saying that the rumors are indeed false.
