Disturbed's song 'Fire It Up' is automatically bad for weed references

This one has had me in a tizzy since the comments for the song Fire It Up have been following in. I am starting to hate some of my fellow fans for being so closed minded. I've been skimming through and seeing a lot of hate for the song merely for the fact that the song was referencing the use of weed. I will admit the tone shift was a bit of a brick wall to the face but it was far from a horrible song, but so many others are ready to dismiss the song as horrible without hearing the full album first.

I am at a loss to what to even do or say. I suppose the changing views of the current society can be the blame for this but I'm sorry, a song is not automatically bad just for having a weed reference. A opinion like that is childish, though I cannot stop anyone from saying that. It's my own opinion of course. Though I know for a fact that a few I've talked to about it on here would agree that this *squee!* is asinine and childish.

I'm not one to get too worked up over a few Youtube comments too often unless they were directed at me directly at me, but this was making my blood boil. It still is. I personally have lost a lot of faith in humanity if they are going to overreact at a song like this. Though I guess it is to be expected since practically almost everyone in the USA are brainwashed idiots that'll believe anything the government says.

    There's a phrase that I hear often:"lose faith in humanity." Probably too often.

    Anyway, I'm with you; I don't understand what the big deal is. If we're going to condemn every artist who references weed, it would probably also follow that we should condemn every artist that references booze. Referencing those things alone doesn't have to mean anything; I would imagine the context is of greater importance.

    Ya thats stupid! How can u be mad about that when other bands and different genre of music sings about it too and not be mad about it. Rap is the perfect example for it not to mention their fondness of sex and abusing women.

    @Flutter_shy_steph You and Dilly make good points. Though I do like what you said about the whole Rap thing. The whole sex and abuse of women has been much more prevalent in the recent age of Rap.

    I know! Tupac was the best thing that happened to rap because he explained things that happens in real life! I'm still pissed that he is gone! All these rappers now only care about sex and drugs not to mention abusing people! "I'm just gonna stalk this woman and abuse her physically and emotionally." I don't see how they can sing about it and don't think the people that listen to them won't act on it. Smh. I use to listen to rap but haven't for 4-5 yrs now. I would rather listen to Classical music than hear about hurting others. Don't get me wrong other genres talk about sex and I listen to it but they don't go over board with it. "Closer" by NIN is a bad ass song. The lyrics have sick twisted words but u don't see people acting on it.

    @Flutter_shy_steph Exactly. In fact, NIN's song Closer is another good example of a reference without going ten million ages to the left or right and making it offensive. Actually, Tyro mentioned another one which has a blatant reference to Weed. 'I Got High' by the Afromen. It's a fun song and it's more entertaining than offensive.

    Isn't funny how a topic about a song can spark up convos about other songs that relate to a topic? We end up bring up stuff that we have nearly forgotten otherwise~
