No, not religion.

You look at say, us Americans. A lot of us depend on the people in charge. Almost totally. Well, the internet is a place where everyone has a fair say, correct? Then why don't we speak up?

By this I mean, why don't we start believing in ourselves INSTEAD of the moderators. How about before you hit Post Now, you look at your post and really think about it. Make it squeaky clean and all sparkly, nice for the general public. If you do this, then the mods won't need to works so much which makes it feel like less of a job for them. When it doesn't feel like a job, then they can just have fun and relax. When they can chill out, they're more likely to stick around.


I've seen quite a bit of pessimism about the site itself and the moderators, but perhaps it's not THEIR fault, and it's yours. Perhaps you should have faith in the community as a whole so you can all preserve the place you have and continue to have a jolly good time.

The gist is own up and stop making the moderators feel like sh*t when most of you aren't doing anything to fix it.

    I agree. It's not like staff are some magical demi-gods to be placed upon a pedestal above everyone else. I'm a user just like anybody, just with responsibilities and obligations. What makes the forum is the people there. My ideal has always been to try and be a good person and cheerful influence on those around me, since that's the best I can really do to try to improve things. If I spread good vibes to those around me, they might start to feel good, or, if they already feel good, feel even better, and use that goodness to affect still others.

    But for real, I wouldn't say it's any one group in particular, but the sum of various bits and pieces as a whole. There's obviously some issues among the staff, and obviously some issues among the users, and both could use some working on.

    You bring up a very good point Alias. However, most of us post nicely anyway. If someone was to post badly, they probably aren't thinking straight at the time.

    Still, your blog post is a nice little reminder to us all.
