I'm sorry to hear that. I can tell you that it can be hard. People in general should learn to be more accepting of things they don't understand, and schools aren't necessarily known for being the best place to challenge that sort of ignorance (in a way, isn't that ironic?).

I think it was brave of you to say that to an entire classroom full of your peers. I don't know if I could do it.

I also did a project that involved ponies. Except mine was in french, it was a poster, and the twitless moron that sit behinds wouldn't stop irritating me about it.

It's not nice you got criticized, but a lot of people don't want to hear abou ponies. This is why a lot of the internet is displeased with us, because some of us go and we take ponies where they shouldn't be.

From this introvert's perspective, at least. My personal opinion is that doing things like that only makes you more of a target for jerks and bullies. Not to mention the fact that your friends will then feel obligated to "unfriend" you in order to keep those same jerks from targeting THEM.

If someone comes up to me and asks, I'll tell them. I might even try to have pony music or pony pictures positioned so someone I think might like it will notice it. But doing that in front of class is a one-way ticket to rejection-ville, my friend. "Divide and Conquer" is a rather aggressive way of putting it, but that's how I think of it. Telling people one at a time is much safer.

But, hey, it was brave. ^^

I agree 100% with the above post. There's a part of me that wants people to know (and why shouldn't I tell people about something I like?), but it's far safer for me to keep it to myself. That being said, I often draw ponies in class, but only my friends notice.

I'm sorry that happened to you, though. Most teens are so closed-minded :/

Why did you even think that there would not be consequences to just up and pretty much proclaiming it to an entire class.
In school, classes, whereever, there will always be jerks.
Never give out something which could be used against you to upset you unless you trust said person.

Very sorry to hear this happened to you. Gotta try and move past it. There's always gonna be people in school who just aren't gonna change their perspective on things, unless they witness it firsthand for themselves. You were very brave for basing a presentation on bronies. I could never do something like that without passing out. :derpe:

Also, it's important to keep in mind that even though the majority was laughing, it can be safe to assume that most of those people really didn't care much (which is fine, it's better than directly throwing hate), and were just laughing because their peers were (we're all guilty of this at one point).

At least if there is ONE brony in your class that heard, you've restored their faith in humanity. :3 And you've restored mine now anyway! It was a valiant effort but some people are distressingly ignorant.

I think it was brave of you. And "friends" which unfriend you for this reason are not real friends, sry to tell you this, but it is like this. When i got bronie my friend questioned me about it, some watched one or two episodes with me, and 3 of them were like nice and are bronies by now and the other where just like " i dont really like it, lets go and get some beer". Even if they dont like the show they should at least understand that you like the show. I dont like Rapmusic and a friend of mine listens to it but i would never unfriend him because of this.

Dont worry man, just dont care what others say. Be proud and if you want to wear pony tshirts in school or what ever then do it proud. You should not feel ashamed, not even a little.

I'm basically friends with everybody at school, they also think I'm a bit nuts (in le good way), so saying that I liked MLP wasn't a surprise to them. As a matter of fact, some people started liking it too (my best friend now was secretly a brony, so I had some back up ). So it's really a 50/50 chance, when you think about it.

What age are you roughly? Generally, the younger people are, the more ignorant they are. I assume that you're about 13-14. If you aren't, then I'm amazed how stupid the rest of your class is.

There was nothing wrong with choosing bronies as a topic for your presentation. Clearly, you are mature enough to understand the concept of it being just a show. However, your peers seem to be idiots, so maybe something like that wouldn't appeal to them.

I became a brony when I was 15/16. Then, most people couldn't really give a damn, since they had better things to do than call someone gay. Don't get to hung up over this. Eventually, they'll forget. They always do.

Only you can allow your dignity to be destroyed. Dignity is something that comes from within, not something others give to you. It's a head-held-high type thing.

Wow, I'd expect behaviour like that from 8 year olds, not 15 year olds. Don't worry too much about it. After all, it's just their opinion. It shouldn't stop you from doing anything. Stay strong.

I mean, most people won't disagree with a statement like that simply for conformity's sake. If they said, "Actually, he's not that weird," then they'd be making themselves a target.

So, for what it's worth, not everybody hates you. Most of them just act like they hate you because they want to go with the crowd.

Ironically, the majority of the people are the ones who will do that, and the minority are the ones who actually hate it. So it's not even following the crowd; it's following a minority.

I'm in the same situation you are Penna, except for me it's the whole school. The entirety of the school knows I'm a brony (except for maybe some new kids) and I've been getting hell for it. However, it does fade down. There are some people that will still harass you for it years down the road, but a great deal of people will just forget about it, and you'll even find friends in some people you never would have thought it of. Most of your good friends will stick beside you, and might even give the show a try, since they'll probably value your opinion.

For handling the people who give you a rough time, just be proud of it. Don't act like it's something to be ashamed of or they will think it is and use that against you. It's not sure-fire, some people will still give you a hard time, but that's what I've done/been doing and the worst of it has stopped.

I know what you're going through, but be proud of who you are and endure. In High School a lot of people are insecure in themselves and as a result they instantly react with hate to anything they don't know. Just stand by who you are and people will come to accept you, and it makes you a hell of a lot better than the people who will be throwing away their identity just to fit in. Just be careful not to shove it in peoples faces. If they start to give you a hard time about it, stand up for it, else they'll use it against you, but don't tell people they should try the show, just give them the facts, and their own curiosity should do the rest. Not everyone will give you a break. But i know that around 12 people at my school have become bronies since they found out i was (though about a quarter of them don't want to admit it, but I've seen them dropping numerous pony lines (eg. 20% cooler) and one of them has a partially hidden pony folder on his computer.

Oh, and mentioning that it's got one of the writers of Adventure Time on it helps.
