Opinions on Episodes 1 and 2 of Season 1?

Hey there everypony!:grin:​

I was talking to a few other ponies and some of them were saying that they thought the first two episodes of season one were boring and too sappy. Personally, I really liked the first two episodes and I believe they are really important to the whole show. I even cried a little after episode two xD So I was wondering, what do you ponies think of those episodes? I'd love to hear you opinions :D​

    A friend of mine expressed the same sentiments about the first two episodes that the ponies you talked to expressed: That it was formulatic, sappy, and boring.

    I have the complete opposite opinion. Like all pilot episodes, Episode 1 and 2's function was to set up the world and the characters that live in it, both of which I think it did very well.

    After watching the first two episodes, I was immediately hooked on the show.

    I wish I could find the words to expand upon the multitude of points that I want to make about how much of an impact that the first two episodes had/have on the series and the fandom as a whole, but...well, I'm nursing a bum hoof and I'm on powerful painkillers right now.

    Bluh.

    In any case, I don't care if the first two episodes were sappy. The whole concept of Friendship is Magic is "sappy".

    And that's not a bad thing.

    We need more sappiness. :grin:

    I thought that they were alright. Like Quill mentioned, they introduced us to this new land (Equestria), they introduced us to the Mane 6 and they gave us a bit of history.

    While it took me an extra episode to get into it, I thought that the pilot episodes were good enough to make me keep watching.

    To be honest, I was never a big fan of the first two episodes. Nightmare moon was an incredibly boring villain with an incredibly boring plan. In fact, out of the first ten the only one I really truly loved was 9. It took me until episode 11 to be all HEY THIS IS FANTASTIC. Winter wrap-up does that to people.

    I felt that the two pilot episodes were well done, especially the very beginning of episode one. The unique art style is what instantly hooked me. I agree with Quill and B-Dog that they set a good pace for the setting and characters. I personally really liked Nightmare Moon, both in appearance and concept.

    Well while they introduced us good to the world an characters it really was sappy :D But this does not mean it was bad or something. But the later episodes are less sappy and tehrefore i like them more.
