Okay, so what's up with nerds getting judged for what they wear?

I see fillies and colts these days with their hippity-rap music, and their pants on the ground. And I get looked at funny for wearing a pair of Chandra's goggles? What gives? "Really? You don't look weird enough?" Is a comment I got this morning when walking through the halls. Yes, I like Magic the Gathering, what place is it of yours to look down on me? At least my clothes cover more than 30% of my body. :c

The logic of this is unreasonable. Especially with the kids who say "Ooh, I don't bully, that's mean and it kills people like Amanda Todd." (cue butthurt). In all my years, I have never seen a kid who follows the current definition of "normal" be abused for how they look. And it hurts me to see my friends, and other people who like to be obscure, be abused for what they like or what they wear.

    Hmm...I don't know if I have much to add to this.

    I pay 0% attention to what people are wearing, and sometimes people are offended by it, which I don't really understand. IMO, people who are offended when I don't notice their new hairstyle are the same kind of people who make fun of what other people wear, because they care about appearance way too much.

    I don't understand all this social junk that people care so much about. They're clothes, made for keeping warm, not looking aesthetically appealing. The latter is a bonus, and just because someone might not doesn't mean you put them down for it!

    Those people can wear whatever the heck they want, as long as it doesn't affect me. The only thing that annoys me is the girls who wear huge shirts with short-shorts and make themselves look like they're not wearing any pants.

    Really, society?

    Jhera, didn't you know? Girls must weigh less than 80 pounds and still have muscles and be fit AND look like they're naked without actually being naked in order to fit in.

    Heh, people are stupid so what did you expect? Stupid is the norm and will refuse to listen to reason in order to hold on to their deluded vision of reality at all costs. At all costs. Throughout history, society has been pushing its "norms and values" inside people's throats. If you think today's bad, just go back a few hundred years when you would have been burned to death for saying the Earth is round and revolves around the sun. On a more positive note, we can expect future generations to have more tolerant individuals the likes of ourselves as it becomes more difficult for more belligerent cultures to sustain themselves because of the growing ease for victims of such cultures to seek support inside more tolerant communities.

    People get judged on everything. Unless you are the way they want you to be then they will have a problem with you. A lot of people (especially high-schoolers) feel the need to fit in, and part of that is having an overinflated ego. They see their niche as being what everyone should be and anyone outside of that is wrong.

    You're different to them, they're worried that they might understand you and become like you (Y'know, more open-minded, a contribution to the world) so they insult you in order to confirm to themselves that you are wrong and they will not be like you. They won't stop, nor will they try to understand you, that's what they're afraid of.

    There are plenty of other people out there who have been through the same as you, and fortunately those people are actually not the majority. However, they are the single largest group in most area's (eg. Say about 20% of people at a school are like this. There is another 80% of people, but about 70% of these are likely to have in part conformed to their standard of non-acceptance. They aren't likely to just insult you when they see you, but they isolate themselves from anything).

    It's irritating, and it's not likely to change any time soon, but remember that you'll always have us to turn to. Just always try and be friendly regardless of their attitude, it's what i do.
