Rough Seas Ahead for Yami

My stepfather lost his job of 17 years this morning. He was a truck driver for Waste Management. He failed a drug screening because of something so so stupid: he accidentally took the wrong prescription medication while on vacation, and it showed up on the screening. Since he's not on file for using that prescription (it belongs to my mother), WM was forced to fire him according to its zero tolerance drug policy. And because it was drugs he was fired for, his CDL (commercial driver's license) has been suspended until he can go through some ridiculous rehab program or something. So in the meantime, I am left the only person in our household with an income, and it's a meager income at that. They're going to apply for unemployment and everything, but still.

Wish us luck on this rough road we've suddenly been forced onto.

    Of all the arbitrary and utterly pointless things to get fired for... Sorry to hear that Yami. I hope that things improve quickly for you and your family.

    This is why I'd rather our government made smart decisions, not the right ones. They were forced to fire him because of some law, and that law seems pretty stupid to me!
    I hope you'll be able to keep yourselves up out there!

    I'm pretty sure it was just company policy, not law that made them do it.

    That's even more ridiculous... Couldn't they tell it was a medicinal drug?

    I think they could, but it was an expired prescription, and it wasn't even his prescription, but rather my mother's. :/ There wasn't much they could do. Many of his bosses really tried to get him out of it, but couldn't. They said they'll be more than happy to provide references and opportunities for new jobs when he gets his license back.

    Aw yami, I'm sorry to hear that. :< I'm proud of you for stepping up when your family when they and it's something I really respect about you. I look up to you in many ways and that makes you that much more wonderful. :smile: I hope things improve. I really do. <3
