Skylanders and DLC

I think DLC is horrible. One of the worst offenders, if not THE worst is skylanders. The game where you need to buy statues of a character to be able to use them in game.

Im sure hundreds of people agree with me.

But today I gained a new perspective of it.

I have a weekend job hosting parties at a bowling alley, and today the parents brought skylanders plates, napkins, goody bags, balloons, etc. my first thought was "oh my gosh. this game company is totally seeping parents of every cent. Skylanders is the worst thing ever. Money loving businesses." Then I remembered MY sixth birthday. Pokemon plates, napkins, goody bags, balloons, etc. DLC is just as new as game-themed party stuff. Our DLC however was trading cards, books, non-wireless toys. You think, if they had had the technology, they wouldn't have had amiibo for the first smash brothers? Of course they would. Instead they had to work with what they had. Which was spring loaded plastic doodads, and pieces of colored, laminated paper.

DLC today is worse. Many game companies are making DLC actual important things, but it has always been, regardless of how poorly companies are executing it.

Just a thought I wanted to share.

    I dunno, man. I never really gave DLC much of a thought. Especially not the upcoming Mewtwo DLC for SSB4, since I'll be getting both versions of the game, and have the opportunity to get Mewtwo for FREE! Another example of DLC I don't mind is Borderlands series DLC, since later on, they eventually bundle it all together with the main game in a Game of the Year Edition of the game.

    I'm fine with DLC. It's something extra that the developers thought of after or didn't have time to add in before the game's release. However, I despise Day One DLC with a PASSION. It should already be in the game! EA is the worst offender of this. If it weren't for Mass Effect and SWTOR, I wouldn't be paying EA a cent.

    It really depends on the game. Some DLC doesn't really add anything to the game, and seems to only exist a way for game companies to make an extra buck. (A good example being alternate costumes.)

    Good DLC, on the other hand, adds real content, like new quests, new characters, and new areas.
    Good DLC makes a good game even better. (Like the Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLC for Skyrim.)

    I kinda play collectible card games, which are like the video game equivalent of only getting DLC for a game, and the game never ends so you're stuck in a cycle of wallet-pain and regret. Still, I can't stand when video game developers deliberately leave out parts of a game so they can re-sell them as DLC. That's the worst of the worst.
