Some of the students in my school are messed up.

There are lots of different ways to handle problems with your peers. Having friends there for you can a lot. We're here for you, too.

Truthfully, I don't think you have to take their crap. Stand up for yourself (this is coming from someone who has trouble standing up for himself, so take that as you will).

Still, it won't do to get heated or angry around those people. I don't think you'll have that problem, but being in control of yourself important.

I've had similar problems like this in school before, but never anything that extreme. Stick with your friends, and you'll be okay.

If they're angry at you for helping them and they're so dumb, then just don't listen to anything they say. Don't take it to heart.

You helped them, and if they can't see that, well, it's shame on them. There are times when snitching is bad, but that is NOT one of them.

I know how you feel, well, except for the fire stuff, the drugs situation I had was with the year level above me and that ended up getting stopped.

A fair amount of the kids have the nerve to even watch porn while the teacher's there...and to completly disrupt every lesson that I have which has them in the class too. It's kinda odd in a way, normally wearing headphones about the school would be a sign of someone who dosen't care about their eduction. But I've been wearing headphones so that I can tune out those people and ever since then I've been ahead of all my classes.

I guess what I'm trying to say is just find a way to get on with your work. I know it might sound selfish, but you've got to make sure that you've done what you need to do before you help them. Oh, and don't worry about being a Snitch, in high school pretty much everyone's going to look for a reason to hate you or anyone else. The only advice I can give is to be above it, and I know that sounds hard and confusing.

What I do is I just don't pay any attention to what they call me, and respond with nonsensical comments with no relevance. It weirds them out and confuses them and they often give up trying to understand you, and in the process stop harassing you. Eg. Yesterday I was walking down the hall when someone punched me in the gut and said "Pony*squee!*", My response (After catching my breath from being winded) was to smile and say "At least I'm not a porcupine". After an awkward silence, they just left shouting back a few choice words at me.

It won't be easy, but remember that you have got friends that are there for you. If when you're feeling down you can always talk to us about it, and we'll (at least try) to help you. High School is a hard time, and you've still got hard roads ahead of you, but no matter how dark the tunnel gets, there's always a light at the end of it, remember that.

Yes, yes. That sounds quite familiar. I do much the same thing, except were that exact situation to happen to me, I would simply catch my breath and then keep walking without so much as a glance in their direction. Why? Because when people act like that, they're looking for some sort of adverse reaction.

So whether you do what I do and ignore them completely, or simply respond with good-natured randomness like Caberea, it doesn't give them what they want -- which is you crying/attacking them/snitching on them, or anything else they could laugh at you and tease you about.

I know I can't tell you not to try to help them. That would be wrong. Everyone deserves help. But sometimes, people who need it don't realize that they need it, or don't want it, or don't realize that your trying to give it to them. And they act like jerks when you do help them.

All I can say is, don't be discouraged. Keep helping them, keep treating them nicely. And remember: Just be yourself, treat them as you would want them to treat you, and slowly, they will begin to respect you enough that they will leave you alone, or even want you as a friend. Trust me, I know. (Oh dear, I feel an Uber Ramble coming on...)

When I was in middle school, kids had no respect for me. This was because in elementary school, I was a demented little weirdo. And this was, for the most part, fine in elementary school. But in middle school, even though I grew WAY more mature, others still treated me as though I was my old self. Which, in retrospect, I can understand. But that didn't make it easy.

The guys would pretend to be my friends and then try to get me to make an idiot of myself (it was painfully obvious what they were doing, so I thing they believed that I was mentally handicapped or something as well). The girls, though I have no proof, spread rumors about me. Very nasty rumors. I, unfortunately, had a name very close to another kid, and this kid was a piece of work. So one of the things he did got pinned on me, probably accidentally. But it was something I would NEVER think of doing. And finally, it was middle school. I was a loner. That in and of itself made me a target.

So. There really wasn't a "day everything changed". It took perserverance, and patience. Not that I never made any mistakes or did any dumb things, but I am fairly proud of how I changed myself to adapt to middle school. I simply didn't respond to anything. Because everything they said to me was specially tailored to make me look like an idiot no matter how I answered or responded. So I just didn't. Eventually they left me alone, and especially so after, in an uncharacteristic fit of rage, I kicked the back off of a chair that one of them was sitting in. I'm not proud of that, but I think I scared them (lol).

And slowly, I got my own group of friends. I found the other people who were loners, and we formed our own little "clique", even though that's not really the right word for it. I'd like to think that they were drawn to me by my friendly nature, but really I have no idea how it happened. It was a while ago. But after that, I was not the target of undeserved teasing, and when I did get teased, I took it in stride, often even playing along with them. Because it didn't matter what they thought of me or whether they teased me or not. I would treat them nicely, whether they did the same to me or not.

And soon, I had almost no enemies in the entirety of my school. And I still don't. There are a few wayward people who I suspect of spreading rumors, but they never get very far, because I have (I hope) a good reputation and people apparently have a hard time believing them. One of my friends actually heard one of the rumors about me and told me about it, and we had a good laugh over how ridiculously uncharacteristic of me it would be. And apparently the person she'd heard it from had thought the same thing.

I don't say this to try and make myself sound good; in fact, I rather hate boasting. I say this because I hope it will help you to know how to act, and react, to these kinds of situations. I know that there are kids at my school who do drugs, smoke, and drink. (Some kids do more than one...) But I try not to associate myself with them that much, because I know that I can't really do anything to help them. If it was a close friend, maybe...but these are people I hardly know. I won't be able to get them off drugs or smokes by just talking to them. And I am afraid that even if I was their close friend, their "F*** the world and everyone in it" attitude would make it all the more difficult to help. And I think I can help people (in general) better elsewhere.

So. In summary, you should always treat people kindly, but that doesn't mean you have to be friends with them. Your friends are the people in life you should listen to, rely on, and trust, and you should do the same for them. If one of them calls you a snitch and acts like the others, then they are not your friend. Treat them kindly, but otherwise pay them no attention. Because if you do, it will only encourage them and do the opposite for you.

I know exactly how you feel.

The People in my school are just downright dangerous, I have seen several fights happen over the stupidest reasons such as “She said that she has a better phone than me. “And I have heard several rumors about weapons such as switchblades in their school bags. I’m a very easy going person around my friends and to the people I trust at school but I’m considered a “Freak” to 80% of my year level.

I was born with Alpha 1 antitrypsin, which is basically a minor liver defect. I was a month early and my left index finger was crooked as a result and I’m missing my left chest muscle. Everything else about me is human and (Not Bragging here) “Quite Attractive.” I have a very low extent of Autism as well and I sometimes need the help of teachers.

I have been an outcast at school since I was 6 years old. I never had friends until I was in the 4th grade. I have been in my fair share of fights as well, my nerdy but really nice personality being the biggest attribute of my “Freak” characteristics. Then I started making friends, people who were just like me. By the 7th Grade, I was one of the most popular kids at school; I had a great time at school.

Then I went to High School, and everything turned to crap.

8th Grade, starting at a private high school in Northern Adelaide. I was shocked at how bad some of the students really were, they were either ridiculously stuck up or wanted to kill each other. I was alone again; I had made 1 friend in the first semester and a lot of enemies. I wasn’t like any of them, they were disgusting human beings. The school I’m at is very strict on drugs and so forth. Fights still happen but are still common.

I just don’t listen to them and focus on my own dreams; the other students are just train wrecks waiting to happen. (I would describe them in full detail but I would get banned if I did.)

I just want to tell you that everything is alright. You don’t have to be ashamed about what you have done. You have done the right thing. I’m very happy that you wrote this, this has helped me release some steam as well.
