Well, I finally managed to do it

I know I've complained several times about my job at Walmart in the past, speaking of leaving. But I never did. That has changed. I gave my 2-week quit notice on Saturday. You see, when I got back to work after my vacation, I returned to find out that the other cart pusher (the one that had been a cart pusher for 18 years) had been forcibly moved to maintenance. Before I went on vacation, he accidentally hit a woman with a line of carts, and after an inquiry, it was either fire him or move him off the parking lot.

Now, what this means for me is that I am now the only cart pusher employed at the store. Oh sure, they send out a cashier now and then to help, but then they can't deny I need help without being blatantly inept. Last year, we lost a cart pusher around this time and went the entire summer, 3 months of searing heat and humidity, without hiring a single person. It was just us two. Well, I'm not standing for that again. I won't risk another summer like that. I AM a part-timer, after all, and a part-timer's wages are no where near worth this stress and hassle. So I quit. I hear they've hired someone and he'll begin orientation tomorrow. That leaves me a week to teach him, then I'm gone, at long last. I've escaped the clutches of Walmart. I'm not even mad about it. I'm just done. Ever since I made the decision, I've approached my job and its unfairness with an overwhelming sense of done that nothing bothers me. :smile:

I must say, it feels like a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders with this decision. These past few days, I've not been bogged down with outrage or irritation at my situation, but rather have found some solace and even happiness to know that I really don't have to deal with it if I don't want. Quitting Walmart won't be the end of the world, but an opportunity for a better job.

I look forward to taking a breather, and then getting help from friends and family who know people to help me find a better future! I'm quite rubbish at job hunting myself. That's how I ended up at Walmart in the first place.

    Good for you Yami! I can relate to being rubbish at job hunting, for too long I've been clearing plates and glasses because I dredded having to job hunt again, but I'm over it now so going to do a mass job applying spree. Hopefully something good comes of it, and I wish you luck too.

    I dont have Walmart where i live, but it sounds awful, like a concentration camp disguised as a market chain. The closest thing we have to something like that is Big-W or Woolworths. Anyway, wish you luck in the future and hope you receive a positive outcome

    I don't work at THE Woolworths but I do work at a place owned by them.

    I've heard that Wal-Mart no longer hires full time employees it's only part time now so that they don't have to give out benefits anymore. I'll probably do a little digging later though on the subject.

    Welcome to the real world, really. Walhart isn't the only company that treats its employees like crap. Good luck finding one that doesn't.

    Not too sure at the moment, but I don't want to get into retail again, and as always, I stay far away from food work (restaurants, fast food joints, no thanks).

    Funny thing, my job at Tokyo Diner ended up being my favorite... but I think it was because as a family-owned business, after working there long enough I ended up feeling more like a part of the family than anything else.

    Now with my government job I has a stable work environment that doesn't have anything too unexpected.

    It's boring, but worth the paycheck. I applaud your action, and wish you the best in you future endeavors.
