What's The Point Of Most FPS's?

I don't get most first person shooters because there is no goal, no storyline,no nothing to go of of throughout the game, i mean halo was good but now its just pointless
i dont have much more to say but if you could explain BO2 or COD i'd like to hear your explanation.

    CoD's goal was that all Russians were hostile and were terrorists you had to dispose of. That was it unfortunately. CoD WaW was my favourite and the ones further down the line were brilliant too. Infinity Ward turned CoD into an abomination which I'm still shocked to see people play their abominations. Treyarch had it right until about BO. BO it just slowly sank to the level of Infinity Ward. Other games aren't too bad, but just because these are big shot games we can't just define all FPSs as useless and bad.

    All hail RTSs.

    A. The goal is to provide you the experience of whatever the game is about through the eyes of the hero themselves whilst you guide them along their magical adventure.

    B. You're joking, right? How can you not see the story. Granted, most WWII FPSs had about as much story as a bunch of crumbs, there was still a relating story that could be sen if you paid attention.

    C.CoD is basically just walk from point A to point B, shooting everyone who disagrees with you. It used to be You vs. Nazis, but now it's You vs. Russians or anyone else who's disagrees with you. There's a still a story, albeit all pretty predictable, it's still a story.

    Hardly any modern day FPS's focus on story line(Cod) in my view.

    What is the point of RTS, what is the point of MMO, what is the point of....

    Its a genre, each offer unique experiences that others cannot/do not. Not liking one of them doesn't mean you should biatch about it, I don't like MMORPGs like WoW, but I don't moan about the genre because I know people love it.

    Storyline isn't the make or break point in an FPS, CoD is popular because of the quick action you get, BF is popular due to the 64 player battles, Red Orchestra is popular due to its realism/tactical gameplay. Each game in a genre brings different things into play to define their game, unfortunately, with any genre, things will start to get stale and reused over and over.

    I agree with Rashall. The original Halo trilogy was fantastic, gameplay and story. After that, it turned to poop.

    To have fun, of course. I don't really enjoy FPS games that much, personally, and it does make me sad that my favorites get so little attention in comparison, but that comes with the territory of appreciating lesser-known games. I will say, though, that I adore Borderlands because of its wackiness, RPG elements, and the feeling of overall being a badass.
