Just found out from my mom that our hometown is going to be losing a part of its history: the Dearborn Press and Guide's going to be ceasing publication by the end of the month due to operating costs and changes in business models. (1918 - 2025) Never read it much as a kid (I was more focused on the Detroit News' comics and sports section most days), but I know my parents did. And three of my siblings used to deliver it on paper routes, so our family had a minor share in that sort of thing too. It's going to be kind of weird knowing that it's done.
I hope they never stop publishing physical Books and Manga. Despite what they say the internet is not forever.
Agreed. I'll take any break away from my screen that I can get. And to me, there's nothing that quite matches the feeling of holding an actual physical book in my hands.
Completely unrelated, but after a quite a bit of solvent followed by lithium grease, and a bit of resoldering some broken solder joins, I've gotten my VCR working again. Still have some movies kicking around on tapes, and they've certainly got an aesthetic to them. More and more, I'm stocking up on shows and movies on DVD and Blu-ray because the state of streaming is disappointing.
Strictly speaking, DVD and Blu-ray are both digital formats, but yes, physical is better than streaming.
They are, but they aren't. I mean you can still own a DVD or Blue Ray, you don't own things you don't have a physical copy of, your at the mercy of the service.
Oh-ho-ho, trust me. I've known that for a long time. >^_^< I've got multiple shelves worth of stuff that I recorded off the TV back in high school and college. Only reason I don't watch them much anymore is because my TV's headphone socket is broken.
