This is a thread to discuss games that you love, but no-one you know has ever heard of or played. We all have a special game that we love, but due to a lack of sales or a terrible marketing scheme these gems that could have brought happiness to so many millions are now sitting in bargain bins in second-hand game stores, or rotting in garage sales. For me, that game is Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. I LOVE THIS GAME. Probably one of the most underrated games of all time, I have never met another person who owned a copy of the game, and only a handful have ever heard of it. The game has a fun plot, likeable (and crazy) characters, beautiful art design, and one the best multiplayer modes I've ever played. However, due to it being extremeley undermarketed, and overshadowed by larger titles, the game sold poorly and the studio behind the game, Swingin' Ape, was bought by Blizzard. A sequel was in production, but has now been offically cancelled For more games you might not have tried, check out ExtraCredit's episodes: http://www.penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/games-you-might-not-have-tried-or-heard-of http://www.penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/games-you-might-not-have-tried-2 That's all from me, but if anyone has a favourite game that they want to give some attention to, post it here. Share the goods, and happy gaming!
oh sweet mother of celestia i LOVED metal arms XD i uset to own as the fast robot with sword arms and had so much fun with the campaign that i played it more time then i should have
Love this thread already. This. I know nobody in my area who has played this, accept my brother. He knows nobody either. It's a shame, because it's an awesome game. It feels so awesome when you max combo, especially on 6.2... Tell me i'm not alone in this world... Please...
^ Just had a look at the cover art. Looks... interesting. Never heard of it though, but I've never really been taken in by the Playstation. Is it like DJ Hero without the peripheral?
Kinda, I guess... only much much crazier, something that I really love about it! It doesn't need anything to go with it, because it controls nicely on its own once you get used to it. It's a Korean game, and my favourite Music game of all time. XD
Metal Arms? The cover doesn't look quite interesting... *googles* oooh, It looks like some sort of Ratchet and Clank-ish game. Is it?
This game was underrated. I expected some people to make cool designs on the cars in this game but I never could find any videos. To see an example, just click the link in my signature.
Good to hear at least few other bronies have played Metal Arms! And no, I don't think it's like Ratchet and Clank at all... I've never played it, but isn't R+C mostly about co-op puzzling?
Sorry I didn't play Ratchet and Clank, can't tell you. But metal arms is a game with 3rd person viewing. My apologies, it was a long time I played this game so I can't remember all the story. You control a little robot who's not suposed to fight, but you're engaged in army anyway to to destroy other robots. During the game you need to collect some electronic microchips to upgrade your weapons. There is also a multi-player versus mode.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUuow-ygJUo This video shows the gameplay of the first level and the basics of the story. The overall plot is too long and complex to explain here, and there's a pretty big twist at the end that I don't want to spoil
Baldur's Gate and its sequel Baldur's Gate II Are amazing games, though less known than they should be. Also Top Gear Rally and LOTR: The Return of the King For the GBA were by far some of the best games of their time.
I've heard of Baldurs Gate, but never had a chance to play it. I've heard great things about it though, might check it out if I can find a copy. Another one: A brilliant little hack'n'slash title that's genuinely funny, it never takes itself seriously, and mocks traditional RPGs at every turn. For example, the game begins with a tutorial in an obvious stereotype, where the player is taught how to slay rats in the cellar of an inn. Sounds cliched, right? Wrong. The rats are huge and breathe fire. Little things like that make this game another one of my favourites It also has a great feature where a sarcastic narrator does voiceovers for a lot of your actions, and some of the best songs I've heard in a game (wih sing-along lyrics!). All tied together with a great combat system and polished graphics, this game is a must if you enjoy action titles or RPGs.
Alan Wake and Loom. Alan Wake is a masterful thriller game, rich in its environment and elements-This game stays with you after you finish it, causing hesitation at any dark place you come accross. It's story is engaging, albeit a bit slow, and it's characters are genuinely likable(or genuinely detestable, and therefore you relish what befalls them). The combat can be a little repetitive, but it's never easy. In all reality, this game is a masterpiece that got ignored simply because it came out the same weekend as Red Dead Redemption. Loom is dated, to be fair, but for it's time, it was gorgeous, and still is in many aspects. Tragically unfinished, the story is still personal and epic all at once, the visuals grand and inspiring, and the music sweeping and majestic. Gameplay as an adventure game takes full advantage of everything, giving you reason to explore and pay attention to what's going on to find the solutions you need, and the tool box employed in the game is one of the most flexible and engaging I've seen in games, as well as providing a real dimension to the idea of magic in game that you don't normally get from fantasy games. They recently revived Monkey Island, and I hope Loom will get similar treatment soon.
I've heard about all of the above games. Have you guys even play GTA 2 or the original GTA before for the PS1? I have! Top down shooter lolol.
Yeah! And GTA london!! They were pretty cool games. Wanna play it now... Now... BOMBERMAN! My favourite was Bomberman world.
I got GTA 1 and 2 Portable on my USB Storage. Can't get used to the top-down view though. So,about Metal Arms.. Not Designed to Fight? I likey. Gonna give Metal Arms a Try. Speaking of Underrated Games, Anyone here plays Europa Universalis 3 or Victoria 2? They're great Real-Time Grand Strategy games. :3 Atleast.. If you're into those kind of games. Victoria 2 even has a mod where you can play as Equestria. It's not compatible with the Major Overhaul I'm using though, since people said Victoria 2 is awful unmodded.
