My cousin is fairly good at making beats, but the more evolving nature I would want I could find in my friend DJ Xeno. He's been composing electronic tracks for years and always shares insight into his work with me. I would like to try instrument arrangements as well as standard trance style. Perhaps even a mix of both? It's hard to say what I'd want to make. I start with a sound I enjoy, often something high that could lead. I've created some creepy jingles before, but never worked into a full track. My cousin's advice is, "Don't go into Ableton to make song. Just go in and make some beats. The song comes later."
For a very big reason I would recommend FL Studio for those who are just beginning in the music world. From personal experience I can say that Ableton isn't the easiest thing to start off with. Many people criticize us FL Studio users because we apparently use samples in all of our songs (which is a outrageous lie) Just saying, Fl Studio and Ableton can both accomplish the same exact things, its not as much about the software as it is how you use it. Anyways... I use FL Studio 10 Producer edition with a vast majority of plugins such as NI Massive and Z3TA.
Exactly! I also use a lot of VST's/Plugins/Soundfronts although I try to stay away from Soundfronts, I mostly use them for Drum Kits I also think that if Ableton and Fl can both use the same VST's Like massive then you can produce almost the same quality of music no matter what you use. Unless your using some pro program like Pro tools or an actual instrument.
I don't have Pro Tools, but I always hear that it's a tack-on program to whatever else you're using. FL Studio's interface is really confusing and I just haven't had the patience to learn it. There's some obstacles in Ableton I need to work on. For starters, I need to remap my keyboard as a MIDI controller.
