This here, is a thread for all those games you assumed to be awesome, but then come release day and your first play-through, it wasn't at all as good as you expected.

For me? Brink.
I saw the Brink Teaser not long after it's release, and in short, it looked epic. Sliding around, vaulting massive buildings and dodging rockets with back flips, what more could you want? It was Mirrors Edge on LSD.

See what I mean? Awesome, right?

Then, after seeing all the developer's diaries and watching game play of all kinds, I was pretty much pumped to run to the nearest GAME or HMV to buy this game. So, come release day, I bought it at the standard release price of £40, which seemed like it was worth it. Boy was I wrong...

Ok, first off, in the first 5 hours, I was hooked and loving it. The class based multi-player was really fun, and vaulting around like the agilest of monkeys made it all the more satisfying getting that mid-air kill while hopping down from a freight container. Then, came the replay value. Brink's story was nothing more than about 10 or so maps being recycled for each side of the "war". The objectives were repetitive, and some maps had extremely unfair vantage points.
The story itself had no depth. A 1 minute video explaining the situation was it. The rest had to be read from diaries or mission descriptions, and quite frankly, I couldn't be bothered. The game's customisation was... meh, it wasn't as good as it was cracked up to be. Coating your character with bin liners doesn't seem that interesting.

Good points? I'll give to them, they tried. It was good, but only for about 6-10 hours. It was all multi-player, and the campaign felt slapped on for the sake of it.
It had potential, but I would've waited for the improvements, it was released too early. They even made their DLC free because they felt bad.

I felt robbed, and sold it for I think about £2.50. So that's £37.50 I'll never get back.

Anyone want to share their gaming disappointments?

The whole game, Peter got me so hyped for it. I spent a ton of money on it, I lurked every forum. I took a day off of work and stayed up 36 hours to play it.

Only to find out that he lied about almost every ****ing thing again.

Never again peter never again.

I was actually going to mention Fable 3... but I didn't want the original post to be too long. :p
Thank you... I'm glad we agree on how bad Fable 3 was compared to PETER MOLYNEUX'S LIES. UGH.

I'll never buy his lies again.
Fable 1 is still best Fable. :I

Assassins Creed: Revelations was a HUGE disappointment for me. Some things were good like bits of the storyline, such as, the Templar/Assassin background knowledge you get for collecting Animus shards and Masayf Keys. However, the characters were instantly forgettable, and I like games where you can really emote with the characters, for example, if one dies, you also feel a bit upset. Then the updates to the gameplay weren't much because I hardly use bombs at all, for stealth reasons. The multiplayer hasn't improved much either, but it's still one of the most enjoyable multiplayers, I'll give them that. But all in all, it was also a very short game and now I regret buying it when I could have spent it on another game I was also after, but sacrifised it for Assassins Creed.

Only ever played Fable 2, it was alright. Never finished it though.

As for games that have dissapointed me...

Oh yeah. This.

What the hell happened, Ensemble? You were the maker of the best RTS games out there, and you were handed one of the best franchises of all time. You had the chance to make something amazing, something wonderful, something timeless that would be remembered and could stand proudly alongside Bungies masterpiece. And you blew it.

You blew it big time.

Look at that demo. That looks AWESOME. It looks like the kind of Halo RTS I'd been envisioning since my first play session of CE when I was only a whipersnapper. A game like what you showed there would have been the greatest console RTS of all time. And yet when I finally get my hands on a copy (Legendary Edition, no less!) you fail me, and hand over a pile of mucus that wasn't fun, wasn't engaging, and most importantly, just wasn't Halo.

What happened? We may never know.

Final Fantasy online (11)- Final Fantasy + MMO, had to be good right? No, this game was horrible! I don't like having to be forced into a party and to have something that can kill me if I'm by myself but won't even give any exp. Then there is when I pulled a bat one time and instead of it coming right to me it went all over the place collecting up more bats and then like 30 bats came and wiped out the party and made the area unhuntable for everyone. One time I went on a relaxed hunt and actually had fun, that was when I saw how bad the game was, that I had played it for nearly 6 months and never had fun. Horrible game 2/10

Dragon Age- Oh finally an RPG for the 360 and with great reviews... This game sucks. It isn't an RPG, it is an adventure game, and a very crappy one at that. 4/10

Final Fantasy 8- (At the time) oh a Final Fantasy game with awesome graphics! I was so excited for this one. The combat and magic system was horrible. Also since you always used the same main character, everyone else would fall way behind on levels. At one point in the game I found myself in an area where the monsters were supper hard but gave way less experience than previous monsters and there was no way to get back. The game sucked so bad that there was no way I was going to play it again. 3/10

Space Marine- I thought this was going to be a really cool WH40k game. Instead it was just another first person shooter clone with no story, very little to do, only lots and lots of blood. It is bad enough that nearly every game for the 360 is a first person shooter, but to make a crappy one like this and throw on a decieving WH40k theme was an insult to 40k and to me. 4/10

The Xbox360 as a whole- This system has a lot of potential but the games for it just plain suck. I still play my ps2 way more than my 360. I would be glad to sell my 360 as well as all my games for it. The only thing is I do still have two years left of gold membership I want to make use of, and as I said it has a lot of potential. I keep hoping there will finally be a good game for it, but of course right now I don't have any money. My hopes are up for Final Fantasy XIII-2. I did at least somewhat enjoy XIII. It is pretty pathetic when the two best games I currently have for the 360 are both older games originally released on older systems. Castlevania: Symphony of the night, from PS2, and Torchlight from the PC. I will say though that the 360 version of Torchlight is far superior to the PC version and I never play the PC version any more. 4/10 on the 360 system. My ps2 on the other hand gets an 8/10

Brink.
It ruined console gaming for me altogether.
'Nuff said.

I picked this game up for £10 in the weekend Steam deal. It plays much better on PC like most games. I also played it on Xbox, and yeah, I'll agree it's nothing new (very Gear of War-esque), but I wouldn't call it crappy. Relic gave a shot at making a game that wasn't a Real Time Strategy, and kudos to them for trying something different.
Now, I haven't completed it, but based on what I played, I'm quite impressed. You said "just another first person shooter"... well, it's not, it's third person :derpe:, which I prefer to FPS anyway. I like to look at my character and what he/she is doing. Some FPS games seem to do a half-ass job at character animations, just because it's an FPS and you can't see your character... *cough* Dead Island running animation*cough*.
Still, Space Marine, and being a WH40k fan and a big fan of Relic's games, wasn't a disappointment for me. The multi-player is fun, balanced and creative.
The campaign, is a little bit of a step away from being unique, and does have a feel of ye olde "you're Gordon Freeman, go over there and do this" but overall, I'll give this game a 7/10. A good one to let your anger out on with all that blood and such.

Nothing really, I just hope SSX:Deadly Decents doesn't kill it for me.

SSX is my favorite pasttime game and it won't stop for me in their upcoming releases.

Same, DRD. I really hope SSX isn't a disappointment... I've been waiting for years.

Not to mention I totally pre-ordered it fully in advance just because it was SSX.

So I was like hmmm... SSX + Multiplayer = :omg:?

So yeah... I just hope Griff (SSX3) is in there. :derpe:

The Space Marine game that I have/had is most definatly a first person shooter. Either that or we have different definitions of what a first person shooter is. Just like how I said Dragon Age is not an RPG, it is an adventure game. Some people still consider it an RPG and Xbox apparently considers it an RPG. IF Xbox considers a First person or 3rd person I really don't care. To me a 3rd person game is one like Torchlight, where you have some control over the camera angle and/or distance and may or may not control multiple characters. Usually there is not even a way to see in first person. If Space Marine has a feature like that, I didn't find it. Regardless, I was not impressed with it.

Well, it certainly seems that way.
Welp, there was a good example of seeing two sides to the coin, nice to see varying opinion.

Also, I have been feeling a growing hate for Xbox... although I do tend to find those hidden gems here and there, still, the console fails at determining genres... I can relate to that... -.-

EDIT: I think he definitely means this one:

Fable 2 was actually the disappointment, Fable 3 was O.K. - It was basically what 2 should have been, not 3.
Frontlines Fuel of War- Gotta be the laggiest shooter I've ever played in my entire life.
Halo Wars - Ensemble Studios split after its release, I think that says it all.
Starcraft II - Before people rage, the campaign was epic. The multiplayer/melee is great too, but it's not really my thing. The horror is mod support. Lack of cross-region play. Requirement for re-localization. The Price/Content (3x release rip off). It just REEKS of milking. Don't get me wrong I'll still play it from time to time but it'll never have the heart and soul Starcraft I and Warcraft III did.

Side note; For those who hated Final Fantasy XIII - XIII-2 "IS" MUCH better, although the combat system remains the same (I don't find that a problem personally but I know some do).

I guess I can say that I live Final Fantasy 13 despite the combat system. I would have hopped that they would have improved on it a bit by giving you more control over your characters. I felt it had one of the best story lines and most interesting characters. Seldom are graphics a major point for me, but for FF 13 they were. From what I have seen of FF13-2 that has gotten even better.

and yeah, I was referring to the 2nd game posted. I'm not familiar with the other one. Perhaps I would have liked it better.
