hi guys and gals of everypony.com,today ill be giving a first impressions review of the Mass Effect 3 demo now before i begin i would like to state i havent played the seond game, and are halfway through the first one on XBOX ,and i will be doing the full mass efefeddct 3 playthrough on PC so please be aware of that, also remember this is a demo and some things may be changed for final release(though this soon to full relase it is low that things may change) Once you open the demo up you are immediatly given the main menu,no intros, done in the style of the Normandy(the spaceship you will be flying around in) control panel. The options available are, single player demo, multiplayer(not available at this time)settings(keybinds, resoulution, and game difficulty) and extras(also not available) I immeditaley click on singleplayer demo, and staright away one of this games many customisable features appear, asking i wish to play as male of female(i chose male),and once you have made your selection it gives you three gamemodes to choose from(changable at any time in the options menu):Action, wich you start immeditly as normal defualt shepard, and focus on combat. The second mode is Roleplaying, the traditional mass effect mode, basically normal mode, wherin you may customise your character and go about the game as you would in the past and finally, story mode, wich is effectivly easy mode, with easier enemy encounters,a great choice if you just want to see the story and not worry about intense overwhelming combat. i click roleplaying,so i can get a fair and balanced experience. This then takes you to the appearence and name customisation, here you can choose your first name(your surname will always be shepard) and afterwards what you look like. in appearance there is a bounty of options, from nose size to complexion, you can even make your character look like you.in the pc version there was a box at the bottom with a code in,predsumably to copy and keep for either the main game,or so people can post their shepards. once you have finished that you are ONCE AGAIN asked to choose more things about yourself, such as wich ingame "class" you wish to be (reminsicent of dues ex,for those who havent played previous mass effect games) and a smidgeon of pre-done backstory you can choose from, though if you have a saved file of previous games in the trilogy,it has been reported you can continue on and ignore this part.ther is also a small choice about wich partner form a previous game you wish to be dead, giving a choice between a woman called Ashley Williams,or a man named Kaiden Alenko (as i didnt know who these where i chose kaiden) after that lengthy character building session (wich is presume is the part thats skipped in action mode) you are then treated to a beautifully rendered intro scene ,establishing humanitys defense against a powerful race of aliens called "reapers" it is very breifly touched upon what they are but to fully understand you will either need to look online or have played previous games, wich is to be expected at the end of a trilogy,i would be like starting with return of the king and asking what the mportance of a ring is. at the beggining your character (whom i will further title as shepard, for ease of repition) is aked to come to a meeting of a council of politicians on the journey(all in cutscene) it is referenced that you were deinstated,(this is due to events of Mass Effect 2`s last DLC wich resulted in a distrastrous event i cannot comment on as i have not played it) though you were not courtmartialed and kept in due to shepards knowledge of the reapers.halfway trhough you meet up with wichever of the two people you selected earlier to not die(i chose for Kaiden to die,so Ashely appeared) and you are immediately given your first experience of the games well known discussion tree(the same as the one used in games such as monkey island, and SWTOR) which at this point in time had two options,a nice(paragon) or somewhat bitter/dark choice(renegade) to respond to her/him,after this, you re taken into the council meeting. once you are in after a short loading screen.you are asked what are your ideas in order to combat the reapers. you can choose A: we need to stand together or B: Its all or nothing) wich will lead to a second piece of discussion dependent on your first answer.after wich you are ambushed as the repaers arriv eon earth, completely wrecking through earth defenses,it is here the cutscenes end,and the real gamedply begins. the camera style for gameplay is over the shoulder, wich can result in sometimes not being able to see as well as i would`ve liked,as it resulted in many times being killed from a position you wouldnt have noticed, wich means youll have to look around the battlefield quite alot.when you start you are given a few times where i explains a few buttons, but for most of it you will have to either discover on your own,or just read the manual every time a new featre pops up.on the pc version there is a hotbar which you can pre-assign action buttos, such as heal, different types of ammo,or grenades.it is during this section i found a main problem:the action button, wich controls sprinting, crouching behind things, and rolls, making an awkward situation where i end up stuck infront of a barrier i want to get behind, resulting in immenint death.the atmosphere is perfect, the feel of trying to escape form overwhelming odds while making it to the normandy to gather reinforcements from other races partway on your journey through a wreckage of a ship, you encounter a small child hiding in a ventlation duct, you can choose to ask if he needs help or yell at him to get out of there, either way he disappears, while it felt like it distracted from the main plot,i did understand its moments like those that make this game feel so alive with opportunities just to help everone without stepping foot in the story. after you arrive at the normandy, you are reinstated in to the military/navy/party patrol. It is here the game ends the first part of the demo. PART 2 the second part takes place later in the story, with you escorting a female krogan(one of the games many alien races) out of a facility in order to keep a peace treaty,as the krogan female(no name given) is being escorted via a pod with a sheild on it,it is up to you to maneuaver the facility, powering generators to keep the pod moving, and dispatching enemy humans of a radical extremist group called "cerberus". this is where the combat system gets to shine, with you able to change your ammo type to best suit the situation,a chance to look at the leveling and point allocation system.you are also given multiple new weapons, and the ability to throw grenades. One key ability on your hotbar to remember placement of is this heal, wich has limited uses, though you can find more heal boxes trhoughout the level. It is sadly also here i had the most difficulty wwith the action button,as many times i would sprint into a wall intead of duck down behind it.,after sucessfully getting the female to the roof, you are immediatly set upon by a mini boss,a walking mech called "atlas"(wich resembles the land form of the viking from starcraft 2).for this fight the camera can really own you,due to not being able to see behind you,and if there is an obstacle you cannot move around it can be quite hard to stay out of range.,the fight is really well done and fast paced, and taking advantage of each weapons strengths is critical to success. once you have turned the mech to scrap, you are treated to one last cutscene before the demo ends. OVERALL: i found the game fun and exciting ,with intense moments tghat made yu amazingly immersed in the game,as all rpgs should do.it has a wide range of customisable features, bordering on excess.lack of greater instructions was annoying, but the main game will come with a manual wich should fix that problem.the combat system is brillaint but at the same time could do with some work.the story is conveyed with a sense of importance, showwing that this could be humanitys last hours if nothing is done, while its being of the end of a trilogy can have you asking alot of questions about whats going on.I would recoomend all rpg and normal gamers to atleast give this a try RATING :3.5/5 once the full game comes out ill be doing a lets play,so when that happens pls comment, view it,and do whatever else u may like
One thing I would like to add is the Kinect Functionality. Pros: You can say the actual dialogue in conversations You are able to play the game without pausing Voice commands work extremely well Cons: There are somethings that are faster with a controller (such as opening or overriding a door) A slight delay (a few milliseconds) Overall, if you already have a Kinect, I highly recommend playing the game with it. Otherwise, I would not recommend buying a Kinect if you are just going to use it only for this game.
thanks for the added assist fire, the main difficulty in reviewing a game that spans over multiple platforms is different features in different platform s such as this but otherwise, did i d a good review?
One aspect that caused a bit of anxiety to me was when I first heard about the multiplayer option being added quite some time ago. However, after getting a chance to actually play it, I have to say that Bioware further impressed me with it. Granted, in the demo it is simply a survival mode, but I rather enjoyed the depth of customization one can have on their character, ranging from class (as well as species with their own unique set of abilities) to weapon load-outs (one interesting aspect is that the weight of your firearms affects the recharge rate of your abilities) as well as upgrades to powers and abilities. In addition to surviving, secondary objectives will appear and even intervals to give players the opportunity to earn additional experience as well as credits that can be spent on packages in the game store. Now if I could only find someone to play with instead of going solo, I may survive all of the rounds. Nevertheless, I cannot wait for this game's release. The previous games had me enthralled in both the story and the universe it created; I doubt this next installment will disappoint and further my admiration for the series.
I am glad that the multiplayer is not competitive. That being said, I enjoyed playing it with my Xbox Live friends. One complaint I would have though is that you have to essentially gamble credits to earn new species as playable classes. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the survival aspects of the multiplayer. Nothing feels more satisfying then taking down an Atlas mech with a minute left on the clock. Plus, I really like how it emphasizes teamwork, even on the bronze difficulty. Bioware has definitely put down my worries on Mass Effect 3's multiplayer.
I haven’t tried the multiplayer and I’m very skeptic to the idea that Mass Effect have multiplayer opposed to only just focusing on the Single Player. I don’t like the fact that Shepard is now talking more by himself/herself most of the time and when you do control Shepard to talk most of the dialog choices are being limited to two but then again it’s only the demo. Also the idea of Kinect Functionality just sounded goofy for me. However it started off good, gameplay is fun and it made me more curious about how Shepard going to manage to defeat the Reapers once and for all. Mass Effect 3 (or at least the demo) should have been 10% more cooler.
When you really think about it not much has really changed concerning the dialogue options. To get the best possible ending in Mass Effect games you usually have to stick to either Paragon or Renegade otherwise you might face something worse than what you may have intended. If Mass Effect 3 were to get rid of this stupid little 'strings attached' deal with the character choice gameplay then it would allow so much more freedom and the game would be incredibly better by terms of non-action scenes. It might also be able to take some hints from how Deus-Ex: Human Revolution went about some boss fights and make it so that you sometimes have to outsmart the bosses through dialogue instead of merely going "Kapew Kapew!" Neo, you should review the Serious Sam series. Not many people really know all that much about it and I think you may enjoy how it takes an older style of shooting and brings it into a more modern (but not VERY modern) light.
where can i find it? steam? well tbh im saving my casah,im gonna get this awesome mic and stand i been saving for wdit: saw a trailer DEAR CELESTIA SO MUCH BLOOD! maybe supermeat boy playthrough? i can see that being funyn as peopkle enjoy watching others suffer hard games
Yupp. Serious Sam is right up your alley then. Just be sure to play on Serious difficulty and it will have you RAGING. You can find all of the games on Steam, though I strongly recommend Serious Sam: TSE as it is the best in the series. And yes, there is tons of blood. Edit: Here's a link: http://store.steampowered.com/app/41010/ Amazing trailer is amazing
The demo didn't do much for me, the story is ME's strong point and you didn't get much of it in that. Don't trash the multiplayer either, everyone who whines about how they'll dumb the single player down in turn needs to get a brain transplant. For starters they actually advertised and hired a NEW employee(or few?) to make the old code multiplayer compatible and in this day and age multiplayer is what makes a game worth replaying. Everyone should go gather some friends and kick some butt, not moan because they have the 'option' to play with friends (that maybe they don't have? (That'd explain it..)). Still the demo wasn't a good choice of levels imo. Still hold high hopes for the full release though, thanks for the review ~ Moved thread to Media -> Games ~ Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
