I don't quite have the stomach for those kinds of things. To be honest, I read it out of spite for Rainbow Dash. I used to completely hate her. However, reading the fic made me feel guilty as ****. I stopped reading it when I got to "and then she was gone....". Yeah, I know what happens in the end and I read the alternate endings, but I personally had enough by that time.

Not my idea of entertainment but whatever...

like you knew that I have just read it 2 min ago

honestly, I saw what is going to be from the beginning.
although it's well written and very.. you can picture everything that's going on.
lucky for me that I've watched a lot of horror movies in past so these stuff doesn't get me much.
although I don't feel any hate or dislike towards Pinkie Pie (real MLP:FiM Pinkie Pie), after story, but I do feel sorry and little bit more keen towards Rainbow Dash now. (but still everypony is same for me)

edit: one day after reading: well, one thing is for sure: it didn't change my feelings towards characters. all I can say that it's well written, kinda too obvious what's going to happen on the beginning, and I would put it as better horror story. maybe if it had bit more action (for example Rainbow Dash escapes from Pinkie's machine, and then Pinkie somehow (brutally) captures her). That would bring slight hope in reader, but again goal would be reached (what horror stories are good at).

I read it, and I loved it because I actually listen to fanfic readings of either hilariously badly written or disturbingly vulgar and disgusting fanfic and it is because of me seeing a reading of this fanfic that I discovered ponies. Since then I actually now read fanfiction myself again for the first time in many years. But despite the vulgar way I was introduced to ponies. I prefer to read normal fanfiction about ponies that is in canon with what I'd expect from the show.

Thank you Cupcakes for finally making me decide to watch My Little Pony.

    Okay, my verdict on Cupcakes.

It seriously doesn't deserve all the hype it gets. It's not that bad. A guy got sick of all the shipping fics, especially between Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash, so decided to take the mick out of it. That's all Cupcakes is. Because nobody had ever seen a fan fiction like that, it was the most memorable one, because it had shock value.

As an actual story, it's average. Graphic, yes, and I did enjoy the concept. Actually, I loved the concept, I love conflicting sweet innocent things like ponies with dark themes. But it's nothing special. People make it out to be worse than it is, simply because of the place it holds within the brony community. If a non brony were to read it, I doubt they would find it that bad.

Of course, for some people of a more sensitive nature, it is that bad. After all, it is still a violent graphic story, it's just mostly notorious for the aura around it, not the actual content.

EDIT: Post count currently reads 321. Blast off!

I have not read it, and do not plan to, despite a general love for horror films. I fear it will distort my feelings towards Pinkie...

I read through 1-2 paragraphs but haven't really started.

Although my feelings of Pinkie Pie are somewhat nothing/not caring, reading this will still affect the way I see Pinkie Pie.

I'd say it would be a good way to get away from shipping fics, after I've read some.

    "Well, here we are again.
    It's always such a pleasure.
Are you wondering why you're in a vice?" - Cupcakes! The Musical - Main Song/"When You're Gone" fandub

Haha, okay, I won't quote the whole song, but you get my point. I've read Cupcakes twice. Well, the first time I actually read it, the second time I watched a YouTube video of someone reading it. I also watched another video of two people reading it and their reactions. It was a guy and girl, and the girl had no problem reading it, but the guy was hysterical. It was funny. I also read "Rocket to Insanity" which I thought was pathetic by comparison. Lastly, I read one of Cupcakes' sequels, "Le Petit Four," which, in my opinion, was worse than Cupcakes.

What's strange is I don't even like gore or horror. If you asked me to read a grimdark fan-fic that wasn't associated with Cupcakes, I would decline. The only reason I decided to read it was due to its infamy. I kept reading posts around the Internet that said not to read it. Naturally, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. To be honest, it's not as bad as many make it seem. I was able to read through most of it without a problem until very close to the end I started feeling a little weird. Normally in this situation I would stop reading, but I thought, "If Rainbow Dash can't get out of this, then neither can I. Read through." So, I did just that.

I don't think any differently of Pinkie Pie because, to be quite honest, I believe thinking differently about any character due to a fan-fic is just silly. It's called fan fiction for a reason. It's not canon. I mean, sure, I'll think about it, but no one should let a fan-fic of any genre change their view of a character. I also think it's silly to hate on the person that made Cupcakes. I was not aware of the situation that Luprony described, but I still think it was a rather interesting concept. Pinkie Pie with her happy-go-lucky attitude, you'd think she'd be the least likely one to be a homicidal maniac. I think everyone has the right to express their bronydom in their own way. Whether it be any genre of fan-fic, music, art (both clean and 34, even though I don't care for the latter), cosplaying, etc. They're still bronies in their own right.

At some point I'll try to finish all the Cupcakes-related material— all its alternate endings, its sequels and their alternate endings, just so I can say I've fully immersed myself in Cupcakes content and have no hard feelings about the characters or the writers. I even had one Cupcakes-related dream, but it wasn't major. I got away... this time. I know what my number is anyway. It's #382 (i.e., my profile number).

One random thought, have you ever tried to think about the story logically? I have, and it makes no sense. Those cupcakes would've been disgusting. Bleh.

    @Epony

I have to admit although I was never severely effected by cupcakes I have always thought 'crazy' or 'insane' when ever I have seen Pinkie on screen and you have to admit of all possible ponies she would be the most likely to go grimdark.

The funny thing is though is that the Fanfiction was written before Party of One was aired. Which shows that the writer had a really good read on where Pinkie's personality would take her. (Pinkameana). and he turned out to be right, at least within the universe of an innocent children's cartoon. She really did go insane.

It's a gore fic, and a poorly written one from what I've heard from people who regularly read gore-fics.

The only reason it's gotten any more attention other then "wow that's messed up" is because it was the first pony related gore-fic to find it's way on EqD.

    I admit NOTHING! :p

I don't consider Pinkie Pie to be crazy at all actually. On the surface, her typical hyper happy attitude may lead someone to think she's crazy, but she made it very clear why she is the way she is. She just wants to share happiness with others, or in her words:

"I never felt joy like that before. It felt so good I just wanted to keep smiling forever, and I wanted everyone I knew to smile too."
    - Pinkie Pie ("The Cutie Mark Chronicals")

While living on a rock farm, Pinkie never experienced happiness. It was a dark, depressing place. Once she experienced joy, her life's mission became to spread that joy around to everypony she knew. Hence why she's the happy party pony we know her as today.

Also, the writer of Cupcakes wasn't really correct in predicting Pinkie's personality in "Party of One." Sure, there was one brief moment she actually started losing her mind, but that was just a breakdown. Other characters have experienced this as well. One prevalent example would be Fluttershy's breakdown when she realized that the animals at the Gala didn't give her the attention she wanted. We don't label her as crazy, do we? Other than that part of "Party of One," Pinkie Pie's behavior is nothing out of the ordinary. She thought her friends were lying to her and avoiding her. I actually could relate to Pinkie in this episode. I don't know if you've ever experienced a friend's betrayal, but it's not fun. Unlike Pinkie's situation, mine was unfortunately legitimate. Regardless, it was completely natural to be angry, but she didn't want to murder them or anything over-the-top like that. Pinkie actually said what she would do:

"You know what? I'm NOT gonna speak to them ever again and I'm NOT going to invite them to another party for as long as I live. They don't deserve to be invited to my parties. Not after the way they've been acting."
    - Pinkie Pie ("Party of One")

That's a far cry from murdering them and turning them into cupcakes. Even at that point she had lost control by that time, her retaliatory action wasn't out of the ordinary. It should also be noted, shortly after losing control, she was fighting her anger. Remember when she said "'losers' might be a little strong, don't you think?" and "Oh, they're not so bad."? I know it may not have seemed like much at the time, but it shows that she had a hard time being mad at them at first. It was an internal conflict.

Pinkie has also demonstrated that she can be serious when needed. In "Swarm of The Century" all the other ponies thought that she was up to her usual silliness while trying to acquire the musical instruments necessary to lure the parasprites out of Ponyville. She showed signs of frustration throughout the episode because nopony would believe her. This episode proved that if Pinkie claims she knows how to handle a problem, it'd be wise to listen.

Now I'll leave what's canon, and turn to fanon:

The motivation for Pinkie's craziness in Cupcakes was much, much different. She actually pretty much summed up why she did what she did:

"Oh Dash, you didn't do anything. It's just that your number came up and, well, I don't make rules. We can't turn back now." - Pinkie Pie ("Cupcakes" fan-fic)

In this situation, Pinkie Pie wasn't even angry. She acted matter-of-factly about it. It was simple— I have to make cupcakes and your number came up. Nothing personal. Of course, as any of us that read the story know, the method of obtaining the necessary ingredients for said cupcakes was anything but normal. This is where actual craziness comes into play. She could've kept it simple and quick, but instead decided to be fairly elaborate with how she obtained what she needed so that she could spend some "quality time" with her friend. All the while behaving similar to how she would in the show, but despite that, it's still fanon.

My point is this; the "real" Pinkie Pie would never do such a thing to her friends. She is a kind, caring, and happy pony, but she's not crazy. She has the ability to be sad and upset just like anypony else. She also can be serious. She has more depth than she let's on upon first meeting her.

From the actual TV show, we've seen how she acts when she's upset: She threatened to never speak to her friends again or invite them to a party. She was also depressed and wanted answers (hence, the Spike interrogation and chasing Rainbow Dash). Nothing more. This is NOT what Cupcakes demonstrated.

Cupcakes takes it in the entirely wrong direction. The Pinkie Pie in Cupcakes has really nothing in common with the Pinkie Pie of the actual show, except for her mannerisms. The Pinkie Pie in Cupcakes didn't murder her friends out of anger or revenge. She didn't do it because her friends were supposedly avoiding her. She did it because in this FAKE and FALSE reality created by a fan-fic author, she needed to make cupcakes, and the secret ingredient happened to be ponies, and whenever somepony's number came up, it was their turn. It's really one-dimensional when you think about it. The story lacks any depth. As already mentioned, it only gained infamy because it was the first of its kind on EqD. The craziness that Pinkie Pie exhibits in Cupcakes isn't even the same as in MLP:FIM. In the TV show, Pinkie Pie lost it just for a bit. That's why I still consider it a breakdown, but the story in Cupcakes implies that Pinkie always has been making cupcakes this way, which suggests she's always crazy. It's a case of temporary versus permanent.

Also, I find it strange that some people consider Pinkie Pie and Pinkamena Diane Pie as separate entities when in reality they're one in the same. "Pinkie Pie" is just the shortened version of her actual name, which is "Pinkamena Diane Pie." Pinkie does not have two personalities. She just had one breakdown. If Pinkie acted like she did in "Party of One" more often, then I'd entertain the notion of her having more than one personality, but until that is shown, I reject the idea that they're two different ponies.

This post became longer than I expected. I apologize if it's a case of TL;DR, but I feel somewhat obligated, and maybe a little passionate, to defend Pinkie's character. If Pinkie Pie were real and read Cupcakes, I bet she'd be disgusted by it. There is just no way that she would ever do something like that. I don't think she even has the capacity to hurt anyone, even if she doesn't like them. Remember Gilda? Pinkie still tried to be nice to her. Once again, Cupcakes exploited that and took it in the wrong direction. Cupcakes has no validity here. I also understand that one limiting factor is the fact that this is a childrens' cartoon, but I'm sticking to my view that Pinkie doesn't have it in her to be like that.

ePONY, I've read the whole of that post, and I'm having real difficulty finding something that I don't completely agree with.

Pinkie's character can seem a bit crazy at times, but it's a kooky, eccentric kind of crazy, not a psychpathic kind. The character portrayed in cupcakes was a completely different one, one that shares almost nothing in common with Pinkie. In fact, the only similarities were the fact that she was making jokes of a less than desirable situation. It irks me a little, not full on annoys me, just a little, when people make references to cupcakes whenever Pinkie goes 'crazy' (Party of One, etc.). It's almost made her synonymous with mental unstability, which I find ridiculous. The amazing thing is, people are now depicting Pinkie as a fun loving, happy-go-lucky character, with a completely horrific dark side. Obviousy, in fan fictions and what not, people are free to do what they like with characters, but when it starts leaking into mainstream fanon, then that's a little bit irritating.

As stated, I enjoyed the concept of Cupcakes. I enjoyed it in the same way you enjoy one of those B movie horros. You know it's no good, but you enjoy it anyway. Cupcakes was off on so many aspects, but it wasn't ever meant to be anything good. Maybe if people actually understood the whole reason for it's existence, it may be seen in a different light. I doubt this will ever happen though.
Despite all the problems with Cupcakes, I have no problem with the writer himself. He's a brony like the rest of us, who just decided to play a little joke. It's the response from everyone else that gets me. Obviously a little joke and a reference to Cupcakes is fine, all in good humour. But when people start recognising the Cupcakes Pinkie as a legitimate persona, then it does spoil the character. I haven't seen Pinkie in a different light because of Cupcakes, but it does get a little irritating when you can't talk about her without people instantly thinking she's a murderer.

For instance, I submitted a picture to deviantART of Pinkie Pie eating the corpse of Rainbow Dash. I did it before I had even heard of Cupcakes, and I only chose Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie because:

    1. Pinkie Pie is one of the most innocent and happy characters, so I thought it would be funny.
    2. I couldn't resist passing up the opportunity to call it 'Taste the Rainbow Dash'. I know, I'm a comedy genius.

For some reason, it became my most popular deviation (not far off 700 views, which is a lot for me, since I'm not popular there). But what got me was the fact that some people assumed I had been inspired by Cupcakes. I had never even heard of it. I can see the connection, it just made me ask myself if this was the generaly accepted view of Pinkie Pie now. Others were actually angry at me, one guy claiming that I was part of a 'Rainbow Dash killing cult' or something, I can't remember. Apparently, there'd been a lot of people making pictures of Cupcakes inspired art, and he thought I was one of them. I didn't even know people were that taken by something meant as a joke, heavily inaccurate and generally not very good.

Final rant, Pinkie Pie is considered the happy harmless pony with a hidden dark side, capable of doing horrific things because of personal motives. Ahem...

    You're... going... to LOVE ME!

It would have made more sense of Fluttershy had been the psychotic one. A timid pony, been pushed around by everyone to the point of breaking. If it had been Fluttershy, then I probably would be ranting about how fans are depicting her wrongly right now, but I just reckon she would make a bit more sense. Just my opinion though, not necessarily correct.

No, although I skimmed it. Don't really like it because I like the characters too much - and this just wasn't them as far as I'm concerned. Plus, I'm not a real fan of the "gore-horror" stories, or whatever you want to call them. The "Saw" movies, for example, hold no interest for me, other than an abstract interest in the, um, methods and tools used. And since the people weren't characters I cared for, it wasn't really horrifying. That's probably the one thing wrong with horror - it's hard to get you to care for a person in an hour and a half movie (easier in a book), so when the people being stupid get killed, I'm just sort of, "Oh, well." Plus, once you learn who the hero is, you know that person is going to survive - no worries.

Also, perhaps the idea of ponies killing and eating each other strikes a bit close to home, it being that happens in the RW all too often. Of course, to me, once is too often.
