Okay, let me first say that I'm new to this whole fan fiction scene. I also need to admit that I have always looked down on fan fictions and their writers but I have also never been a fan of something that is open ended like MLP (where it's "fan-verse accessible"). I do personally write my own stories with their own universes, characters, etcetera; most of my work typically leans to the satire spectrum. Frankly, I can't stand writing in regular narratives because I believe story-telling is something that needs to be stretched rather than confined but that has always been just my opinion. This also is why I can't stand most fan fiction because it typically seems to follow a straight forward path.

For those who don't know, postmodern is a narrative style that doesn't go by the average A through Z structure. It could go anyway the author believes it should; like starting off with Q and ending on E, while the narration perspective cycles randomly between each character and leaving quite a few of those "letters" in question (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postmodern_literature).

    Here are some author examples...
    -William Faulkner
    -William S. Burroughs
    -Kurt Vonnegut
    -Haruki Marakami (more recent)
    -Toni Morrison (more recent)

Anyway, my question is this: are postmodern style narrative structures okay for fanfiction? Will people actually care? Would anyone actually want to read it? I have this mega-head canon in my mind and I honestly won't be able to continue with my other personal writings unless I get this out.

TL;DR Version: Is a postmodern narrative structure okay for fan fiction?

P.S. I'm also sorry if this post sounds pretentious. I tried my best but frankly, I'm kind of a ****.

It should be perfectly fine. As long as it's got ponies in it, it's a fanfic. People shouldn't complain if the structure's a bit different. They may even enjoy a change if flow in the fanfic world. I'd say go for it.

Omg... I can already see that now...

That's what I was kind of thinking too but once again, I'm unfamiliar with this fanfic stuff and those who read them; expectations included. I have been searching to see if I could find MLP fanfics that follow a nontraditional narrative structure. I kind of/sort of found one but I had trouble getting into it.

Thanks a lot for the encouragement, you guys. I wrote some last night and hopefully I can get a first draft done by next week.

What he said. The story is acceptable if it has ponies. Otherwise, it's up to the reader to determine if it's good or not. Just because a story is written in a different style doesn't make it bad...

Post-modern has soo many meanings that I cant even keep track anymore. Still If you want to go ahead. It sounds interesting.

When I first looked I thought you meant post modern as in,

Postmodernity( post-modern for short): the economic or cultural state or condition of society which is said to exist after modernity

I was about to say "You know you can just say future right?"
