Yeah, because Hasbro totally won't figure out that it was Mane6.

If the game were released in secret, who's to say they'd find out?

All they have to do is complete it and let it become available in some anonymous way. They can feign ignorance and claim that the game was stolen and distributed by a third-party. Heck, maybe they could get a group like Anonymous to actually "steal" it and distribute it. There's options, man. I don't consider it a completely lost cause just yet.

Options, maybe. All we can do is just hope that something good happens from this.

I'd lose all respect for bronies if that happened. Go ahead and ruin what's left of the fandom, why don't you?

How would that ruin "what's left" of the fandom? In ANY sense?

    Answer: it wouldn't.

Bronies represent friendship, and if you're going a bit extreme they also represent the six elements of harmony. In other words, finishing a product despite it being illegal, then commiting fraude to have it released and available on the internet, isn't very much what a brony should be.

You start doing stuff like this and bronies will just be another crappy internet fad. I remember the days when i joined it was way more than that...

Bronies never represented anything other than a huge group of friends who like the same show. There's always been prejudice and lying in our community. Heck, Cloppers have been outcasts pretty much the entire time. Speaking of which, our community pumps out a lot of things - music, video games, and oh yeah, porn. Graphic visual or literary porn. We don't represent the elements of harmony here.

Bronies aren't special, man. We're just a group, a bit more friendly than others. We have good points, and negatives; in the end we're just another fandom.

The main point however, regarding finishing the game in secret - it's their game. They asked for no money for it (save for charity), so what moral reason can there be for them to be ordered to stop making it? If they decided to finish the game in secret, I would cheer them on, as they're not hurting anybody. They're making a big sacrifice for the entertainment of their peers.

If this were done in secret, I bet they would find out.

How could one become a member of this or many other Brony sites to easily find out?
Do what I did and search brony on google, then take two minutes to sign up as a member of this forum.
Anyone with ties to Hasbro could do it. Then of course they would find out.

This ain't some secret society exactly lol.

Our best bet would be to get new characters from Ms. Faust herself.
Or work hard enough to get that petition signed.
Let's go about this the legal way and show everyone that Bronies aren't awful.

Let's do the right thing... After all what would the mane6 do?

Id rather not have the newest MSN headline be "Hasbro sues Bronies".

It's not really a question of morality as much as legality. Since these are Hasbro's characters (the members of the Mane 6), they have every LEGAL (not exactly moral) right to have the game shut down. Sad, I know.
This could quite possibly be a power trip by them. Just to let us know "who is in charge".

Anywho, legality and morality are two totally different things. They may not have a moral reason for doing this, but legally they have every right to since they are after all the owners of theMLP FiM characters.

Now I am certainly not saying that I don't want this gameout there, I am just stating facts. Our legal system sucks sometimes, but there isn't much we can do about this...

    Aye... :(

It's easy for me to cheer them on for making it in secrecy, but the legal consequences are probably far to great. Here's hoping that petition makes a difference.

What about sending the link to Faust herself, maybe get her to retweet it?
If she would that is lol. Now that would get attention.

Well, I can add Hasbro to the list of companies who will never get money from me ever again. It seems like the only companies that treat their fans right are Disney and WB. I've noticed that they allow quite a bit of stuff to be shared freely on youtube and other places and only ask it to be removed if they're making it available on those sites themselves, and sometimes not even then. As a fan, that's all I really ask. If we're not trying to make money off of your creations, leave us alone.

There is probably not a single thing I was looking forward to more in the fandom them Fighting is Magic. Well there was also MLP:Online that I played the demo of and it was an amazing in depth and original RPG, not like those RPG Maker projects that are frankly very boring and just have pony sprites chucked into generic Final Fantasy 1 style RPG, that have nothing else to do with MLP.

I keep noticing that a lot of bronies are putting the blame on the wrong people. This is not Hasbro's fault, it's a fault with awful US copyright and trademark laws that have not been updated for probably a hundred years. Hasbro is required by law to crush unauthorized uses of their copyright or else they can lose it, essentially causing their IP to become public domain. So I understand why Hasbro was strong armed into this.

When MLP:Online was shutdown I was angry but learned about this and unfortunately the fact that the used the name of the brand My Little Pony in the actual title, pretty much meant that it had no chance in hell to survive. Fighting is Magic at least had the sense to not blatantly copy the brand name, so I had some hope that Hasbro's lawyers might be able to ignore it. But hence the fact that they use actual location ans pony names along with their exact designs, meant that it was doomed too.

But now let me question this. Why Hasbro did you wait this long? This project was famous and every single brony knew about it, the Studio B staff knew about it. Lauren Faust promoted it, Gamespot featured an official article about it and only now you decide too shut it down???

Did it really take this long for your lawyers to bring it to your attention? I find that hard to believe and frankly I find the fact that you would let a project go this long and let people get their hopes up and for the development team to spend so much of their time on a project that was always doomed, is just cruel. Hasbro should have shut this project down as soon as it became well known, so that all the time and effort that the developers spent on it and people spent supporting it would go down the drain early. Then the Mane 6 team could have started over on this next project sooner.

In fact Hasbro should just go ahead and shut down all MLP games, it will be better to just rip the band-aid off now then to just continue to let the inevitable disappointment snowball.

The only project that is still going that might have a chance is Legends of Equestria, a 3D social MMORPG that is in development. This is because there are reportably no actual characters from the show, you make your own OC and that's it and all the locations represented from the show are never explicably named. So this may have hope...
That is if they don't get slammed simply for the use of 'Equestria' in the title.

Anyway as angry as it makes us all. We need to stop trying to fight a battle we can't win. Anyone who is developing a game do yourself a favour and give up now.

You can use characters and locations from the show if you're not making any money with the project. That falls under fair use. The reason it was shut down was not so much that Hasbro's IP's were being used, but because Mane6 raised funds for charity using the game, which contains Hasbro IPs. That's why Hasbro had to make the move. It counts as making money off of their intellectual property.

I'm not actually seeing anything that confirms the game was shut down due to the charity event.
