It's a general question- how do you compose your music? Any tips, tricks or anything?

I have a long method which I'll post tomorrow.

1st (Yes, I compose. Problems?) I compose 1 instrument to have a nice un-usual melody. Usually I make it either a piano or a violin. They have a nice tune virtually to themselves.
2nd I take kickdrums, snares and whatever i want in it and make it fit the composition of the main instrument i used earlier.
3rd I add special sound effects that occur like 2 or 3 times through the song.
4th I listen to what i made. What i don't like, i remove or change.

Allright, so I get a song idea in my head. If I'm not at a computer, I write it on graph paper and place it in FL Studio later. If I don't have FL installed on the PC I'm on, just pull out my USB stick and open up FL (although missing most features), or if I do, I just turn on my usual FL and choose the instrument I want to use. I test it out and see if it sounds decent or not (Luna is a good example of said test) and continue on from there, adding background instrumentation, fixing up a lot of things, and usually testing something new!

Of course, the end product is really different than what I start out with.

I do compose music, but it's much like my art. I do it whenever my mind strikes. Since they usually have lyrics, I have to write the entire song before composing its melody. Since I don't have much rhythm, I have to do a long job to take the annoying parts from it. Not much of a good singer, but I can sing without breaking your ears. xD

    ^ Let's hear some!

I don't compose, I prat around and make up riffs on my bass but know nothing 'technical' about music.

Neither do I. Never learned anything about music in my whole life.

Normally I get inspired whenever I hear something by someone that I really have that gutteral and carnal urge to do just as good. 90% of the time it never turns out the way I intend it to, but in a good way.

I sketch things out on my computer. I improvise with my midi keyboard or have some idea for a melody or mood in my head that I try to emulate with the software. It doesn't turn out right all the time, and over half the things I start never get finished. If I really like it, I render it, arrange it, add the details, mix and master, etc. drag and drop it into my "finished tunes" folder, then enjoy the playback.

There's really no strict formula when it comes to making music for me... it just sort of happens whenever it feels like it.

I'd love to hear one of your songs!

Anyways, I pretty much haven't done anything but rap beats. They just pop into your brain, so not much of a skill is needed.
...Time to do Moonlight Sonata mvt. 3 (rather fast composition)
