My understanding of faith would be to be loyal to and believe in something unconditionally, even without evidence. What do you understand it as, Sparkypony?
This is serious discussion on a topic up to personal interpretation. Could you please just explain it?
You claim that people here do not understand the concept of faith without backing up your claim. I'm simply asking you to explain yourself when you make a bold statement like that. This thread is filed under 'serious discussion'. Tell me, what is it 'people here' fail to understand about faith. I am legitimately curious.
Yeah, sorry, I was a bit late with that post. Not that I completely understand claim, but whatever. I personally have a hard time relating to faith. Not that I'm bashing people of religion, but I can barely wrap my head around how you can believe so strongly in something that you have no evidence of.
Its just something we kinda do. We don't understand it, but we choose to believe. And i'm not the kinda of person that forces everyone to follow my religion. I just want people to respect it. And then theres westboro and the other fanatics..../shame
Well the one reason that we can believe in something that we have no evidence of is because first of all it's kinda impossible to prove a God exists. If you think about it, God is in an entirely Different Realm to us, we have Physical Proof, but God is not physical. In fact he is outside of time. The fact that we believe in him is because for some of us, we've had what we believe to be spiritual encounters, with God, while others don't see how the earth and this universe could have been made without the help of a form of God. Everyone has a different reason really there is no set reason why we have faith. My reason is, well I've been raised a Christian, so I first of all accepted it from young, but then as I started Getting older, I started to look learn more and become more independent in my thoughts I began to study what I actually believed in, and over the years I've seen some things that probably not many will believe when I tell them. those things that I've experienced and seen make me believe in God. That's just my 2 cents, accept it, don't accept it, I don't really mind.
You don't believe in god because of the inability to prove he exists, you believe him based on faith. You said that we have physical proof that god exists, but that he is not physical. What is the proof, the planet? the universe? Things which science has been working on understanding how it was made. Maybe it's people, which were really nothing more then lucky animals. As for spiritual encounters, what would they consist of? You say you were raised christian, what if you were raised atheist, islamic or any other religions. Would you not believe those as real and true? Could you inform me of these things you've seen?
I think there's a fundamental problem with this discussion. Not only are we talking about what is essentially a personal preference, we're also not talking about the most important thing. Me. On a more serious note, I see no reason why we should stick to one truth. As many things can exist at the same time, even if they contradict eachother. We contradict ourselves all the time, so why not do it some more?
I am a proud Satanist. I personally don't like religion. Most people pick and choose what to follow. I read somewhere that apparently the Christian Bible states not to mix fabrics. I also read that if a virgin gets married, they are to be killed on the spot. Christians also practice not doing ...things... until one is married. So yeah. That or whatever. Edit: I also hate people who need to shove religion down others' throats or tell people they will "burn in Hell" because one believes in something different.
Actually, what the Bible says is if the woman is NOT a virgin, she shall be executed. That is, if a man grows to hate his wife and accuses her of not being a virgin when they were wed, if she or her family cannot prove she was, she is stoned to death. Deuteronomy 22:13-21
Proof that everyone back then was sexist. Anyways... I do not read the Bible. I would not know exactly what it would say. Also that fabric thing. That's messed up.
