Do you have any reason to believe that Nintendo will NOT release a new console?

Anything's possible, But I'd say it's Very Unlikely this will be their last console.
Their 3DS seems to be the best selling handheld console of this generation. According to a trusted source (Totally not wikipedia), the 3DS has sold about 35 Million units, while PS Vita has sold just 4 mil.

I, too, believe they should just stick to Handhelds now.

I agree it wasn't that good, but what I meant was that it was a good step in branching out. At least they tried. I'd be more willing to buy a new Ice Climbers then another Mario at this point.

Why does everyone always point to sales to say whether a console is good or bad? The Turbografx 16 had terrible sales, but now it's regarded as one of the most underrated consoles of all time. Ditto the Sega Saturn. Ditto the Gamecube. I believe that in years to come, the WiiU will be seen as a console that should have done better. In fact, if you actually care about GAMING and not social media features, I would say the WiiU is the ONLY gaming console left. The other two no longer count.

What are the chances of it being their last console?

You really should stop asking the same questions over and over again. :I

Why ask us like we'd know anyway? :sigh:

We're not really talking about whether the Wii U is good or bad though. The point is, not so many people have purchased this console, and that's potentially a pretty big problemo for Nintendo. It doesn't matter how good a product is, if it's not selling so well, it's not doing so well.

The Wii U has loads of useless social media features as well. It's part of the checklist for the complete console (I'm quite serious, take a look at the OUYA whitepapers) and there's no getting around that. In all honesty, the Wii U really hasn't added anything particularly new and productive; I still consider a controller with a resistive touch screen (that uses the world's most obscure screen resolution imaginable) something of a quirk more than a feature, very much like the Xbox Kinect features - there's a very specific type of audience these additions might appeal to, as the general console gamer population does not fit the bill.

They need to stop pushing out the same retitled games over and over. New Super Mario Bros U! Super Luigi! Stop.

They need some new franchise ideas or breathe a little more life into other neglected ones for some more diverse content. The social networking features and whatnot are also rather poor, but I honestly wouldn't care about that if the games were more engaging and diverse.

How do you even use a Wii U Gamepad properly without spontaniously sprouting a third hand? <_<

I wonder if there are actually people who are anxiously awaiting Mario Party 11 (or 12? idk).

Well, I think that may be in part due to Nintendo seeing long-term repeated successes from titles like Halo, Call of Duty, Fallout and Battle Field (and even some of their own platforms' games like the Legend of Zelda, etc.). It looks to me like they just want in on that action, but unfortunately, they also seem to be going about doing so incorrectly. Nintendo seem to like pushing out these games with the hope that they sell well on their own accord, whereas the already popular titles are often produced out of player demand more than anything else.

    - - Auto Merge - -

When have we seen Nintendo do something like that before?

Nintendo has never been one to obey the laws of ergonomics on console controllers.
