After about a dozen of you guys derailed some thread with random KS discussion, I was kinda baffled that I'd never heard of it and my curiosity was piqued. So I gave it a try and I gotta say, it's pretty addicting.

So I made a place to discuss it. And for funsies, included a poll for your favorite character.

Right now I can't say that I have a favorite character because I haven't even finished it yet, but I'm on Emi's route and I like it so far.

It's been a while since I played it and I only played it through once. I'll have to look up and download it again.

It seems like that on the surface.

It's more of an emotional experience than a dating sim, however.

Dating sims are much more emotional usually then what most of america finds to be a dating sim. Hell, there are people legally marring their 3ds dating sim girl in Japan. They are way "better" in ther countries.
As for Katawa Shoujo, I thought it was good. I'm glad they had the option to disable the H in it too.

haha, never seen that video before. I'll have to look up the Lilly song they mentioned.

Lilly definitely seems like her route would be interesting, for me it was a toss up to go with either her or Emi, but some choice I made caused the game to pick Emi for me so I just rolled with it.

I regret nothing, Emi is so kawaii. <3

You know that's not a real thing right? All that weird stuff people say happens in Japan...not saying that nothing weird ever happens but, if Japanese people said something like "People in America are getting legally married to sheep" would you believe it?

Because they do lol. Pretty easy for people to believe a rumor when they've never been to that country before, and there are just as many internet trolls there as there are here.

That aside, I would expect Japanese VN's and dating sims to be better, mostly because I don't think there really ARE any American dating sims.

And there are american made visual novels/dating sims. This thread is about an american made dating sim.
Also, In america 23 states have legalized "mating" with animals, so yeah I would believe it.
And me being a Gaijin doesn't exclude me from being able to read articles or ask my long time friend who has been lived there what the country is about but hey, if you want to be insulted by an entire hotel in japan dedicaded for men and their Love plus Girlfriends in Atami, Shizuoka in a hotel the caters to it with well more power to ya I guess? I have no problem with letting a guy marry a video game.

Doesn't really disprove my point. You said people are "legally" marrying dating sim characters. That article goes to great pains to make the point that his "marriage" is not legally binding. You also made it seem like it was a common occurrence, and I'm 100% sure that it is not. Trust me, if it's something you'd consider weird in America, then rest assured people in Japan think it's weird too.

Although I'm sure you were just making a generalized comment, so maybe you didn't mean to make it sound that way. I'm just saying that a lot of people are under the impression that weird stuff happens all the time in Japan, but in reality it's no more weird than what goes on here.

And no, Katawa Shoujo is not an American game. The original concept was from a Japanese game designer, and the game was developed over the internet by people from many different nationalities. I'm not even sure they had a brick and mortar studio based anywhere.

My comment about there not being any American dating sims was one of those generalized comments... I'm sure there are dating sim games made in America, but with the overwhelming majority coming from studios in Japan, what games do come from America are probably only a drop in a pond.

Regardless of who made it, it's still pretty amazing. This is actually the first VN I've ever played, always meant to try some but never got around to it. Definitely going to try some others after I get finished with this one.

No one is questioning the validity of Japan's gaming industry, although I would like to take time to tell tell you that I'm sensing a pattern in your conversation and I'll be quick to tell you that neither America nor Japan are god sends to the world. You are talking to someone who loves alot of japanese culture and is fascinated by Rikken politics. But the fact Japan (more then most at times) is a country of job related stress leaves me to wonder if you have been there. The reason why Datining Sims are so popular in Japan isn't because they are "better" in Japan then anywhere else is do to the "need" for them being so high. In Japan people are breaking free from there normal hetero-normative gender roles. Men are becoming less "masculine" (For lack of a better term...) and women are becoming a more predominant figure in households. Men in Japan are starting to develop the idea that relationships with the opposite sex are too hard to balance with their heavy work hours and are turning to Host Clubs and Visual Novels (Non-dating and dating alike) Now, I personally don't have a problem with a country changing their gender roles, nor a problem of visual novels being a thing (I like alot of the non-H ones even the pony ones) But it's a common thing worldwide Japan is just more accepting of this type of thing then most. And although only 2,000 people went to the Onoya Hotel during it's campaign it's is a more common occurance then you'd think. If you've ever read a newspaper in japan (Which I have) You'd see the differences in the how japan treats this. I personally don't find it strange or weird. In america people think being Pansexual is either a made up word or an attraction to cooking ware  So I am not complaining about this certain aspect of Japanese cultrue. But I don't write it off like anything that is a good talking point about any country.

Now, you said that Katawa Shoujo isn't made in america. It was somewhat, it was the point I was trying to make that other countries love VN's and can make them just as good. Digital: A Love Stroy is a great example (And it's "suqeul" "Sorry, babe this just isn't your story")
