The Wii U is currently flopping. I don't think Nintendo has ever had a console do as poorly as it is right now. Will they drop out next gen?
They've always had great games, but their consoles haven't been on top since the SNES. Their best bet might be to ditch consoles, and focus on handhelds and software. Imagine how good a Legend of Zelda game would look on the PS4 or Xbone.
What is with you and threads about how poorly Nintendo is doing? The Wii U is a console. Its measure success will only be known when it stops being sold and produced. Until then, you can only speculate. Sent from my SGH-T899M using Tapatalk
That's not necessarily true. Most business practices involve speculation, and numbers don't lie. The Wii U is selling poorly. Based on that, Nintendo may decide that consoles are longer profitable, and seek new ways to make money.
Nintendo is the only one to consistently make a profit on their consoles. Though, analysts have said this might be the last console generation. I think the Wii U will ultimately be profitable for Nintendo.
The Wii U will be Nintendo's last console only if the Wii U becomes Nintendo's last console. The thing could get a major popularity spike if it got a couple of interesting exclusive games. Sent from my SGH-T899M using Tapatalk
Maybe once those come out you'll see a jump in sales. Although the fact my SHIELD is more powerful than the Wii U probably isn't helping the cause. Sent from my SGH-T899M using Tapatalk
Unfortunately for consumers, Nintendo stays profitable by spending less on the development and production of their consoles than Sony and Microsoft.
Nintendo's only remaining talent is making old games look new and still somehow make enough profit to keep going. What they should do now is focus on said games and handheld gaming systems only. Nintendo DS is vastly more popular than the PS Vita, and i don't think Microsoft ever even made a handheld. So if Nintendo wants to stay in the game, they should use their one strength to cover the other companies' weaknesses. And for the love of god, stop making consoles with controllers that require you to spontaneously sprout a third hand...
God I hope not. Most of Nintendo's gameplay innovation comes from their console games (Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, Mario Galaxy, Zelda games, Metroid games, etc.). Besides, I love playing flagship titles on a big screen, thanks. I'd much prefer everything not be in teeny-tiny, eye-straino vision forever. Hey, the N64 was one of the best things ever. Smash Bros, every Rareware game, Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Mischief Makers, Bomberman 64 and Adventures, Kirby 64, OoT and Majora's Mask, and much more. In the words of Fry 1: You shut up, sir!
Don't forget Mario 64 practically invented 3D platformers. Also, Nintendo has some talented devs working for them. Intelligent Systems, Monolith Soft, Platinum, EAD, and recently, Next Level Games (Punch-Out Wii and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon). I would personally like to see a Next Level Startropics game.
I mean unfortunate in the fact that less time and money spend on R&D means that Nintendo's hardware is technologically inferior to their competitors.
Nintendo had hardware that was on par with their competitors from the NES to the Gamecube. Are you saying Nintendo should spend more money on making hardware that's on par with their competition?
That may be true, but it doesn't change the fact that the N64's superior games couldn't compete with the Playstation's superior hardware.
But the Xbox, in my opinion anyway, had the weakest library that gen. Super Mario Sunshine STILL holds up well graphically.
